Revolver consideration
I am looking at a few revolvers. I want a Detective special, an older one that maybe I can do a Fitz mod on. But also eye balling some 2.5” and 3” Pythons.
How are these guns to live with? Not safe queens but honest throw in the pocket or on the belt guns. I have the 6” python but that’s too large for what I want.
Fox Factory at the dealer.
Saw this at the dealer this morning. Cool, but I think I’ll wait for the Rumble Bee.
Some new parts & some new results!
Replaces the slide catch and plunger pins/spring with some Wilson Combat bullet proof parts. Several mags later and no lock back until the mag was empty. (Posted about this last week I think. Thanks to all who left advice. This one graduated to holster duty today!
I did it…
Was on the Schauland Performance site. Playing with the custom builder. And before i knew it. I had an order number…
Estimated delivery date July 4, 2027. Maybe not really, but it’s freaking cool I have that in writing.
Gun show trade up
Colt 1911 Oscuro y Plata Talo edition 1 of 500 in Super 38
Traded an OA Defense 2311 compact pro for this. I think I got the better end of the deal, but the guy was super excited about the OA and said it’s probably gonna end up his carry gun.
My first super 38, haven’t decided if I’m gonna shoot it or just look at it. Guess I’ll see if I can find ammo locally or have to order it.
But being a white dude I feel like I’m committing cultural appropriation just by owning this. 😂
New 1911 Day!
You might recognize it, bought from a fellow addict.
Serial dates it to 1982, began life as a series 70. Someone back then went crazy with the customizations. Hard chrome, S&W revolver rear sight. Swenson branded safeties, checkering almost everywhere, flat top with lines, polished flats on the sides, and what appear to be Magna-Ports. Grips might be original, they are Colt branded Pachmayrs.
Cleaned it up and brushed off some carbon build up inside the slide. Those ports go through the bushing which is fit tighter than a nun’s… you know…
She’s clean and buttered up. Ready for testing this weekend. If I don’t sneak off to the range before hand.
Shaken to death
Poor little thing is being rattled to death by the 230 grain.
Just got it back from Colt because the frame was stripped in the upper right hand bushing. They drilled it out and retapped for something a little larger and it all seemed secure. Took it out for a couple hundred round shake down. It’s more reliable thanks to them adjusting the extractor, but it loosened the grip screws on the left, and started backing out both bushings on the right. There isn’t any loc-tite on the gun, as you “shouldn’t” have to use it. But I think that’s the only way to keep the grips attached.
As you can see it lost a medallion but luckily I found that and glued it back in place.
I am beginning to think the soft aluminum frame on this gun is just not suited to this amount of abuse, which is pretty low for a handgun on our possession. Has anyone seen this before? Is this just par for the course on these little guns in .45 made of soft aluminum?
Wall display
Picked this up on a recent trip. I see a lot of hangers on Etsy and I’ve seen a few DIY solutions over the years. What do people like these days? Any slick ideas for showing this off?
1903 in beautiful blue
Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Colt/s/CcMhmBzgjA
Realized today I promised better pictures months ago and forgot.
For your enjoyment. Colt pocket hammerless, dated 1922. 32 ACP, refinished in beautiful charcoal blue with walrus bone stocks. No matter what I try I just can’t capture how good this looks in person. Found this at a gun show and knew it had to come home. No I haven’t shot it, kinda afraid to harm this finish. This is a Type 2 gun with the fixed bushing, and as far as I know all original parts. The barrel, trigger, safeties, pins, and ejector are all done in a gold color. I do not recall what that is. Maybe PVD, but it looks really good and shines up nicely. Makes me want another in an original finish I can shoot and enjoy. Even in 32 I think it can be a viable carry gun. Just not THIS one…
Considering some work
This is a 1979 series 70 Government. My birth year gun I had to grab last year. Nothing has been done to it. Even has the original collet bushing in very nice shape. Thinking about having a pro do some work on it. Typical things like beveling the mag well, new sights and a clean up. Checkering in all the right places.
Wondering what else would be tasteful. Refinish to something more durable than the bluing maybe. Worth fitting a new barrel and/or bushing or will that collet serve me for a good long time? Crown and recess? Lowered ejection port?
