Where there ever any attempts to make a pump action rifle? And if they where, why where they not successful compared to bolt actions?

Seems like the pump action is more suited to rapid shots (since you don't have to loose your grip on either your firing or support hand to cycle the action) and it only takes a simple linkage and cam setup to turn a bolt action into a pump action (essentially just a straight pull bolt action with a linkage to bring the handle up to the handguard).

And in regard to there being no popular pump action rifles in military service: Did militaries just consider that added complexity not worth the firing advantages, or are there other factors beyond that?

(EDIT) a better way to formulate the point i was curious about: "why are non self loading shotguns usually pump action, while rifles are usually bolt action?"

Is it just me or does maid jax merch feel really wrong now?

Like, before when it seemed as though jax was like, a gnc guy who had hangups about masculinity, the scene is funny. Its poking fun at jax's character flaws and both the characters and the audience can laugh at what seems like the embarrassment from a harmless prank.

But with the reveals in ep9 that scene reads way differently. Like we have a trans woman who is destroying herself with repression, and who has deep fear about her gender being exposed after a horrifying coming out experience. Then she is being put into a hyperfeminine (and femboy-coded) outfit against her will, and the people around her are enjoying her discomfort at that**. That feels a bit too dark for a marketable plushie to me?

**I am not trying to like, say that zooble or the other characters are being transphobic or something. Like for all they knew they where just taking a bully who hates femininity and providing some ironic payback. they didnt know the depth's of baggage behind jax's gender, nor where they laughing at a man in a dress like they thought that was a inherently mockable concept.

P.S. I should have been more clear, i'm not saying its morally wrong to have this merch, or for glitch to sell it, i'm saying like, if i had a maid dress jax plushie or figure or whatever, i would feel weird about it after ep9. and i was wondering if anyone else feels the same way.

Uj/ I feel like I see 3X the jerks here about transfems (or predominantly transfem groups)being misognystic and/or dismissive towards transmascs compared to the inverse. What is going on.

Everyone knows about the "estrogen would save her" charactwrs. But which characters belong to the brotherhood of "testosterone would save him"

Uj/ I would genuinely be interested to hear transmasc headcannons from yall, as it is something I have hardly ever encountered as a transfem posting in a lot of transfem majority spaces.

Edit: goddammit the second I click post I realize rhe glaring typo.

How reliable is tabbing on 5 axis machines, esp for automated setups?

I am going through a introduction to CAM class at uni right now and we had a unit on 5 axis manufacturing and integration with automation. When discussing this topic the professor said that in his experience tabbing is either so thin as to lead to tearing and part mangling, or so thick that removing them cleanly might as well be a second op anyway. Is this accurate to cureent 5 axis workflows (especially lights out setups) or has tabbing been refined to the point that you can make easy to remove tabs reliably?

Vytaflex 60 in 3d printed mold.

Hi, i attempted a casting with this mold yesterday(look at the "molding" tab to see the parts). When i went to demold it after approx 12 hours it was completely fused. i had to chisel around the edges of the parting line to even begin to break it open.

I used smooth on vytaflex 60 with Apel BK30 mold release. In a mold printed out of pla at 0.16mm layer height.

I was wondering if anyone has had this issue before with a similar setup. did i use the wrong mold release? Or is the 3d printed material porus and i should have used a curing agent beforehand.

How do new grads without a ton of special experience even get hired?

(I apologize for the somewhat vent-y structure of this post, i may take it down and rework it later)

Over on r/EngineeringResumes i see people with really solid experience: masters, intensive internships, heavy involvement in multiple engineering clubs, all with very impressive lists of projects under their belt. And all of them are struggling to even get interviews after like 300-600 applications.

If your someone without those things what hope do you even have of getting a job in engineering in the near future?

I admit this question does come from a emotional place for me. I have a kinda average capstone project, a very small amount of club experience, and some internships where i mostly ended up doing nontechnical work or relatively simple odds and ends. I take stock of all of this and compare it to what i see being posted about online and i'm scared that its gonna take me like a year to even find a position.

[Student] should you put clubs in the experience part of your resume if you didn't do very much?

5th year student, total of 12 months of internship experience, graduating this june.

For my final year i tried getting involved with my uni's Baja SAE team. I did the following over the course of fall and winter term:

-designed four 3d printed sensor mounts for a dymometer. I "vibration proofed" them by just putting rubber feet on them and seeing how they held up when the engine was running. However the larger dymometer project was delayed so much the sensor mounts have just been sitting for months with no deadline for their completion. and that has killed all of my momentum to finish the final design revisions the mounts need to be fully integrated into the system

-placed 10 rules required sheet metal tabs onto the main vehicle model. No real design decisions made, since their shape and size is proscribed by said rules.

-machined 15 parts (piece count, not 15 distinct part #'s ) on the manual lathe for the team.

I haven't been meeting with the team in spring term as all of my parts and projects where either done or shuttered, and i wanted to focus on capstone + personal stuff not suited for this space.

I'm worried about putting this on my resume

-is it going to look weird if i only have 2 terms of experience listed?
-what of that list is actually significant enough to warrant a bullet point?
-if there are items that are worth putting in a bullet point, how do i describe them in a impactful way without overselling the significance?
-if i put it on my resume and someone asks about it, are they gonna start to wonder why a senior did so little?

Need to replace dead thermistor, Phillips screw on a aftermarket ender 3 s1 hotend is stripped and held in place with some stray melted pla. reccomendations?

my current thought is to get a soldering iron, set it ontop of the screw head, heat it up, and see if that loosens the plastic enough that i can get it out (that is assuming the plastic is the issue and not the screw coming too tight from the factory.

specifically sunlu silk+ pla. but ive had this issue with petg as well.

I'm wondering if its becasue when i had this issue in the past i used a small drill bit to remove the stuck material from the hotend. and i'm wondering if that marred the inside of the hotend and created a sort of doom spiral for my printer.
