Check out Slapshot Sisters (Book Series)

With so little focus on girl’s and women’s sports, it’s refreshing to see that there’s one book series that’s fully dedicated to girl’s youth hockey. Slapshot Sisters has four books in the series and each one focuses on a different challenge that hockey teams face, and with all the major characters being girls, it’s truly the only one that treats girl hockey players as just regular hockey players and not some token character thrown in. If you’ve got a young hockey player at home, this is really the only chapter book series that she can really relate to. Check it out.

Growing on my tree in Las Vegas (I didn’t plant it)

It’s absolutely massive, I thought it was a lime or lemon tree but this thing is way too big to be either.

I love my Beer League team, but constantly losing is getting frustrating.

I’m in my second season with this team and last season we went like 4-18 and I was the team leader and goals and assists. This season we’ve won one, tied one and lost 8. Nearly every time I’ve gotten off the ice the other team has scored. We added some guys this season so we’re running three forward lines and I moved back to defense to help my goalie out because he’s the worst in the league by far (gives up about 7 a game and only saves like 70% of shots). Today was a perfect example of why I’m frustrated…while I was on the ice, we scored one goal and didn’t give any up, while I was off we scored no goals and gave up four. I had a game earlier this season where I was +5 and we lost 6-5.

The challenge is that I really like the guys I’m playing with, the goalie is a really good dude (but a terrible goalie) and we are sponsored so we not only don’t pay a dime to play the season, we also get a ton of cool swag like hats, hoodies, t-shirts and beanies. If I leave the team and go to another one, I’ll definitely win more but I’ll have to pay like $500/season and it’s a crapshoot on whether the guys will be as cool. It’s hard because I’m doing everything I can to help the team win but as soon as I’m off the ice, it all falls apart. The worst part is that the reason we are sponsored is because our absolute worst player (a pylon who doesn’t seem to understand offsides) connects us to our sponsor, so it’s likely to continue being tough to win.

Sorry, I just had to vent. How many of y’all have a similar situation with your beer league teams where your team is successful only when you’re on the ice? I’m not even that good, I’m just good for the level, I’m in my 40s and played ACHA Division 3 25 years ago, but injuries have made my stick handling mediocre and I shoot like a little girl cause of my wrists and shoulders basically being completely broken down 😂.
