Old war movie about tanks
-War movie about tanks, at least the scenes I remember was.
-probably WWII
-Watched around 2005-2008 timeframe but the feature itself likely older, most likely a re-run on channel TV
-English speaking German or possibly Russian characters. Not likely British or American but possible
-2 scenes come to mind that mesh together. First scene is likely about a commanding officer or some senior tanker telling “the new guy” that “if the tank catches on fire you have just XX (10?) seconds to get out before the ammunition explodes”. I definitely remember hearing that line but the context is fuzzy at best
-then later in the movie, you guessed it, the tank catches on fire. One of the characters escapes and looks back as another crew member is crying for help as they are having difficulty getting out of the tank. Memory is unclear whether the ammunition explodes gloriously or flames are scene out of the hatch he is trying to escape out of. Possible the hatch got jammed or clothing was snagged on the inside of the tank. Either way, this guy watches as another guy is killed in a tank.
-setting is likely Europe as opposed to Africa. Snow or forest, not sand as I recall.
-I figure the tank in question is either a T-34 variant or a Panzer 4/3 style leaning towards German.
-movie “felt” older but not ancient. Very “Enemy at the gates (2001)” style of realism and grit with its story and scenes vs older 70’s though 90’s films where everything is more “glamorous” and almost cartoonish (like people throwing arms in the air after being shot) the scene of a tanker being trapped in a burning tank crying for help is the key and really resonated in my memory.
Definitely not Fury/White tiger/T-34
“Oh bugger, the tank is on fire”
