[A4F] [M4F] [F4F] Do you come here often? [Night Life] [Flirting] [Pick-up lines] [Real Life Romance] [Falling in Love] [Cuter than a Meet Cute] [Kissing] [Updated August 2026]

Hi! This is actually a re-release of sorts. Now with a second VA Cameo part and a bit of an updated ending! (I think both improve the script, which is the first one I wrote!)

***

[Second VA needed for a cameo. Or you can use a distinct second voice for the small part.]

***

Let’s set the scene: You’re out for the night, enjoying a glass of wine, and are now being chatted up with cheesy cliches and icebreaker type questions. Interesting.  It’s ok, they are extremely cute. And very endearing. And you really do have so much in common. You’re willing to see how this plays out.

***

This script is approximately 1200 words, excluding the (cues/action lines).

Setting: Classy bar. An immaculate old dark wood bar, with a well stocked back. Dim lighting. Great ambiance. A woman is sitting at the bar, as you walk up.

Speaker: Early to mid-40’s, dressed nicely. You’re confident, but a bit nervous around this beautiful woman, also in her early to mid-40’s. You’re rusty at picking up women but very flirtatious; you want to play it cool but can’t seem to always do it. Though some of your lines are cheesy, you’re always sincere.

VA #2: Pretty straightforward, the barkeeper. I have him named George in the script, but a female VA can be used and George can be renamed.

***

The Script:

 {SFX: Soft piano music. Light chatter. Classy bar sounds.}

[Speaker to the woman at the bar]
Hi. (clears throat) Hi. Hello. Is anyone sitting here? … Oh, great. Do you mind if I sit here? … Thanks. (she is looking at you a little confused)

[Barkeeper - VA #2 to Speaker]
Can I get you anything else this evening?

[Speaker to the barkeeper]
Oh, yes, I’d like another whiskey. Neat. Aaaand, umm…?

[Speaker to the woman]
And would you like anything?

(feeling a little shot down) No? Ok. ok. Yeah, it does look like you just got that glass.

[Speaker to the barkeeper]
Just the whiskey then. Thank you.

[Barkeeper - VA #2 to Speaker]
Let me get that for you, sir.

(pause)

[Speaker to the woman]

So, do you come here often? That is the most cliche thing to say, isn’t it? (laughs at yourself, a little nervous) Sorry.

(thankful she’s engaging with you) Oh, oh, about once a year? That isn’t too often then, I guess. It’s probably about the same for me. I don’t know why it’s not more than that. I like it here. It feels classy but not stuffy, you know. People dress up a bit to come here, but it doesn’t feel pretentious. It just strikes the right balance, you know. And the restaurant next door is amazing too.

Honestly, I just don’t go out that much anymore at all. I’ve gotten so lame as I’ve gotten older. … Well that's a relief that I don’t seem too lame. … Or old? Well thank you. I assure you, I am both. But thank you.

[Barkeeper - VA #2]
Here you go, sir.

[To the barkeeper]
Thank you.

[Speaker to the woman]
What do I do if I’m not going out much? (blows raspberry, unsure how to impress her, decides to go with honesty) Well, to be honest, I’ve never been much of the going out type. But I definitely used to make it out more than I do now.

(thinking) But I, um, I definitely work quite a bit. I own a small business here in town, and that takes up a fair amount of time. I’m pretty hands on. At first it was because I needed to be, now I just can’t help myself, I guess. (small chuckle)

I, um, like to run. You know, good for my mental health. Physical health too, obviously, you know, cardio. It’s important.

I have a small garden, so you know, that’s a thing that I started doing a few years ago... (trailing off a bit, a little afraid that you’re being too boring)

And I like to read. But don’t worry, I balance that out with some absolute garbage TV. (small chuckle)

...

Oh nooo, the garbage TV is what you want to know more about?
(deeply embarrassed now, but going to answer) Oh, sheesh, ok. I have watched quite a few hours of various Housewives over the years. Annnd (thinking) … Oh yes, and that one too.

(desperately trying to change the subject) Did I mention I read? I do. (mock serious) I read really, really smart books. The smartest. Very serious. Very thick books.

…(she’s mentioned another “garbage TV show”)...

Oh my god, that one isn’t garbage though! It’s absolutely brilliant. (laughing)

What about you? What do you do when you’re not here…once a year…

(listening but also a little distracted) Yeah? … mmm … uh-huh … uh-huh …

(you’re caught) No, no, I’m sorry! I am absolutely listening! I am. (sincere and seductive) But you are…you are absolutely stunning.
(deeply genuine and enamored) No, no, I mean it. Your eyes are just gorgeous. And your hair is just… (trails off, in awe, looking her over)
(so hot for her) And that dress…
(snaps out of it)(sheepishly) I’m sorry. Sorry, I am being very, very forward, aren’t I?

You don’t mind? Well, good. (smiling and very flirtatious) Because I don’t mind telling you that you’re the most beautiful woman in this whole place.
That just sounds like a line again, doesn’t it? It’s not. (little laugh)
(deeply genuine) It’s not.

You were saying though, you paint. That’s incredible. I don’t have an ounce of artistic ability in my whole body. I guess, I just have to be amazed by those who do.

Yeah, I know that area well, actually, I used to live in that neighborhood. I’m actually still down there a lot, there’s a little coffee shop, on Broadway … yup, that one … I go there a lot.

…

Yep, I know the gallery next door. … That’s yours!
(in awe) I’ve actually been in there several times!
(amazed and impressed) And that’s yours? … Those are your paintings. Wow. Now I'm definitely amazed.

(pointed and sincere) You’re an incomparable artist. And the gallery is a really wonderful and warm space, it makes me really happy every time I’m there.
(falling hard) And that’s yours? Huh.

 …

(falling hard) What else? I want to know more.

(She says something like “And I love to travel. But doesn’t everyone, right?”)

No, no. Not everyone loves to travel. I think some people are very content to stay right where they are. And, I think traveling and vacationing are different.

(a bit flustered) Oh, I’m not exactly sure. It was kind of an off the cuff thought. I guess I think traveling is for exploring, and vacationing is for relaxing. (back pedalling) I dunno, maybe they can be the same. … Ok, ok, you understand what I mean then. ... So you love to travel. Me too.

What’s your favorite place you’ve traveled to?

Me too, actually! I love that city!  (whistfully) The museums. The cafe culture. Wandering the streets. … Yes, and the pastries, of course. …

So when you travel … (a little nervous to ask, this could solidify her relationship status) Do you, ah, go on your own, like a solo travel thing? Or with someone special maybe? Or?...

Oh, your best friend? (happy and deeply satisfied with that answer) Hmm. That probably makes it extra special then. (smiling)(she is too)

(flirty and seductive) Your smile. Your smile is…it’s so natural. (maybe a little jealous, but also completely enamored) So easy and effortless. It’s beautiful.
(melting) It makes me smile. You make me smile.
(a bit shy now) God, am I blushing? I really am never this forward.

(earnestly) But I think you make me feel comfortable. Which, let me tell you, is saying something. (small laugh) I’ve spent most of my life feeling deeply anxious and horribly uncomfortable. Less so, as I’ve gotten older. … Yes. Running helps.

(so much gratitude) But I also have a wonderful, patient, and supportive family. That helps.

(matter of factly) And therapy. Therapy really helps. … You know, I have heard that actually, therapy is sexy.

(She compliments your outfit)...

(proud) Oh, thank you. I’ve always loved this jacket.
(sheepishly) But can I tell you, it felt a bit tighter than I would’ve liked when I put it on this evening.

(She compliments YOU)...

Oh, well now I’m definitely blushing.

Can I get you another glass of wine? … Ok. It is getting late, I suppose.
But I don’t want the night to end.

(absolutely smitten and hopeful) This isn’t just me, right? This is something special, right?

Can I, can I kiss you?

(Kissing. So much kissing.)

(softly, a little kiss drunk and flirty) Do you wanna get out of here? (Giddy giggle)

[Speaker to the barkeeper]
(louder, for the barkeeper to hear) Hey, George, when you get a second, can we settle our tab?

[Barkeeper - VA #2 to Speakeer]
Sure thing, sir.

[Speaker to the woman/YOUR WIFE!]
(a little cocky) Sooo, I convinced you to fall for me again. Like I did all those years ago. (shyly) I can’t believe I still get so nervous flirting with you though. (little laugh)

(sweetly) That was really fun. I could stay here all night and pretend to get to know you and fall in love with you all over again. (with a sigh) But I know we actually need to get going.

We did tell the babysitter we’d be home by 11. Do you think they’re still up? They better not be. … Yeah, probably. …

Oh, and I have an early food delivery at the coffee shop in the morning. … I know, I know, but I kinda like being there first thing in the morning still. … 6 a.m. The gallery opens at 11, right?

[Barkeeper - VA #2 to Speaker]
I have your check all ready for you, I knew you’d have to head out soon to get home to your girls.

[Speaker to the barkeeper]
Oh, great, thank you. I’ll take that.

[Barkeeper - VA #2 to Both]
I hope you two have enjoyed your special evening. What year are you celebrating?

[Speaker to the barkeeper]
We have. This year is 19. (proudly) And next year will be 20.

[Barkeeper - VA #2 to Both]
Congratulations! We love that you celebrate here with us each year. Will we see you for your 20th?

[Speaker to the barkeeper]
Absolutely! We’ll see you then, if not before.

[Barkeeper - VA #2 to Both]
(warm but knowing) We’ll see you next year then.

[Speaker to the barkeeper]
(realistically) I know, I know, it’s never before, is it? (small laugh) Thanks for everything, George.

[Barkeeper - VA #2 to Both]
Thank you. Congratulations again to you both, and have a wonderful evening.

[Speaker to your wife]
Do you want to wait here, and I’ll bring the car around? … Maybe text the babysitter that we’re on the way home? … Ok. I’ll see you outside in 5.

(return to a slower, flirty tone) Hey (sincerely, gratefully, lovingly) Thank you for choosing me then. And thank you for continuing to choose me now. Happy Anniversary, baby. I love you.

***

Author’s note: Hopefully it’s all very obvious by the end, but this is not a first chance meeting at all.  The speaker has gone to the restroom and when they come back, decides to try to “pick up” their wife. She’s fun and plays along. It ends up being an exercise in falling in love all over again, complimenting each other, and reminiscing.
Every year, for their anniversary, they eat dinner at the restaurant next door, then come to this bar. George, the barkeeper, has worked there nearly as long as they’ve been coming in. The speaker owns a coffee shop and the listener owns the art gallery next door, both in the neighborhood they used to live in. They watch garbage TV together, travel together, and when the speaker talks about having a wonderful family, they’re talking about the family they have together. (Their kids are at home with the babysitter.) They’re best friends and very in love, and I’m betting they always will be.
The twist of this being a couple should only be revealed at the end. Which means labeling this audio as Strangers to More?, Established Relationship, etc could confuse or ruin the twist. Buuuut, you do you. ;)

Added Author’s Note: August 2026. The script was updated with a second speaking part (George the barkeeper) and the ending re-written a little. Both for the sake of clarity of the little twist at the ending. If you still have a copy of the original script and like it better, by all means, record that one. I still like it too.

[M4F] It’s me, you know, your boyfriend [Strangers to Friends to More?] [Protective Speaker] [Precarious Situation] [Assistance] [Calming] [Getting to know each other]

Let's set the scene: When a stranger struck up a conversation with you on your way to the coffee shop, it didn’t seem like a big deal. But now he’s really creeping you out. He came into the shop with you, stood in line way too close, and the “flirting” is feeling aggressive. But what do you do? If you leave, he’s certainly going to follow you. But if you sit down at the shop, he’ll surely try and sit with you. You’ve tried to politely get rid of him, now you’ve been very direct, which has earned you the unearned label of a tease. Even in this crowded coffee shop, you’re feeling incredibly unsafe and very alone. You’re starting to panic when you feel a gentle hand on your shoulder…

***

Setting: Coffee shop in a University town.

Speaker: Kind, calming, and empathetic. Confident without being cocky. Purposefully not flirty, but engaged and has a good sense of humor.

***

The Script:

{SFX: Coffee shop/cafe noises. Low chatter, clinking cups, etc.}

(loud, over acting a bit) Hi, Sugar Bear! I tried waving to you but you didn’t see me. I got us a table way over in the corner by the window. I’m just so glad you’re here, and I get to start spending time with my girl.

(more serious) Is everything ok here?

Is this your friend? … Oh, so you just met. (slow, firm, and deadly serious) We are going to sit down now. Goodbye.

(whispering directly to the listener) Hi, I’m not crazy, I know we don’t know each other. But right now, I'm your boyfriend, you're my girlfriend, and we’re going to my table, and you’re going to sit with me until this asshat leaves. Does that sound ok? … Ok. You’re trembling a little, I’m going to put my arm around you and steady you a bit. Is that ok? … Ok. (calm and comforting) You’re ok. It’s ok. Just come with me. This way.

(not whispering any more, but voice remains low) Here’s my table. You can sit here. That way you don’t even have to look in his direction.

Yes, he’s still here. (reassuring) But he’s way over by the front door.

Honestly? (trying to still be reassuring) Yes. He’s still looking, but at me. (creeped out by him too) He’s shooting me absolute daggers. Jeez, this dude is unhinged. (trying to be funny) Should I wave at him?

I’m sorry, I won’t. It was a bad joke, sorry.

(calm, steady and reassuring) Hey look at me, he can’t see your face. In fact, he probably can barely see you at all the way we’re tucked back here.

(calm and slow) So just look at me, and take a big breath in (inhale), hold it, and out (exhale). Great job.

Can we do a few more breaths?

(nice and slow, calm) In, hold, out.

In, hold, out. Perfect.

Listen, he’s not going to come over here. (protective) And if he does, I’ll take care of it, I promise.

(carefully asking) So, can I ask? What happened?

Sure, yeah, that seems friendly enough.

I mean it seems pretty obvious he wasn’t headed here. I mean he didn’t even order a drink, right?

Yeah, I’m glad you finally told him to get lost.

A tease?!

Listen, I saw you both walk by the window before you came in. Your body language alone was screaming “get away from me,” while he was looming over you.

(exasperated by the guy’s audacity) I’m really sorry.

I kept watching when you came in but then kinda lost you when you were standing in line. But by the time you were waiting for your drink, it was obvious you didn’t want him around anymore. (a little angry) And it was even more obvious, he had no intentions of leaving you alone.

I got up from my seat without a real plan. The playing your boyfriend thing popped in my head right as I reached you. I’m sorry, that was probably weird too honestly. But I thought it might solve everything with the least, um, (finding the word) confrontation. He’s a bigggg dude.

(being funny) I mean, I’m a little scrawny, but I’m tall so I’ve got reach see. (silly, self inflation) I could’ve taken him, but I try to keep these dogs on a leash. (laughs at himself)

(very happy) Oh hey, there’s a little laugh.

(regrettably) Um, yeah, sorry, he’s still here. Sitting at the same table. He’s looking at his phone now though.

(hopeful) But hey, please stay right here, relax, enjoy your drink. Don’t let him ruin your day, ok. Besides, I’m going to be here for a while.

Oh, I’m grading tests.

No, I’m not a professor. I’m a grad student. I teach a couple undergrad sections though.

I’m getting my master’s in Math, Mathematics.

Yeah, that usually kills the conversation, right there. (small laugh)

Ok, ok, so you’re a STEM gal yourself. … Psychology is definitely a science. And if you’re a senior you’ve taken plenty of math by now, especially statistics? Seeee.

(pause)

(frustrated sigh) Personally, I’d rather figure out numbers than people.

(getting irritated all over again) Like the jerk who followed you here today, like what?, he just sees a beautiful woman, who’s even a little bit friendly to him, and then he’s, what?, entitled to be with you or something?

(mad) He follows you. He makes you feel unsafe. He insults you. He had no right to act like that. That type of behavior is disgusting.

(shyly, sincerely) Yeah, I mean, you are a beautiful woman.

(excited) Oh, look. I think the jerk is getting kicked out. .. Yup, the barista is asking him to leave, probably since he’s not a paying customer. Aaaaand he’s gone.

Ok, that was a big exhale. Feeling ok?

(kind of insisting) No, of course, please stay. Really.

Sorry, I’m taking up so much of the table with my papers. I hope you’re not here to grade too. … Just reading a book? I’ll let you get to it then.

(a nice long pause while he goes back to grading and she starts reading)
{SFX: Cafe noise, plus some rustling papers and pen scratches}

(curious) So, what are you reading?

(remembering) They’re making a movie of that, right? I didn’t know it was a book first, though I guess most movies are a book first.

So, do you have a favorite book?

I have. Actually, a couple times. But after the first time, I just skim most of the songs and poems. … I know, I know. Eek, sorry, sorry.

Did you like the movies too? … Yeah, yeah, me too.

I watch all three of them at some point between Christmas and New Years every year, for the last, I’m not sure, 10 years or so. … Extended, obviously! Those movies are my most sacred holiday tradition at this point.

All three? On New Year’s Day? Really? (smile in your voice) Well, that’s an amazing way to start the year.

I’m sorry, I’ll let you read in peace.

(another long comfortable pause while he goes back to grading and she starts reading)
{SFX: Cafe noise, plus some rustling papers and pen scratches}

(looking up from your work to answer) Hmm, sorry? … No, no. I’m not from here. Just here for school.

Unless you meant, am I from this coffee shop, because then the answer is actually yes. (laugh) I’m here all the time.
The office they give the math grad students is so depressing. It’s literally in the second basement. … Right, one floor below the basement! It's somehow too bright and too dim at the same time. (disgusted) And there’s a smell. … I know. So I come here.

Are you from here? … Oh, land of beer and cheese! I’ve never been, but it sounds like heaven. Do you miss it?

Yeah, Thanksgiving probably seems pretty far away then, huh?

(pause, about to go back to work)

Nebraska. I’m from Nebraska. … You’ve never met anyone from Nebraska. (fake shock) Really? There are dozens of us, dozens I tell you. (chuckle) My whole family is still there, my parents and my sisters.

Four. One older and three younger. (beaming with pride) Ana, the oldest, is getting her PhD at UNL. Bri, the sister just younger than me, just started her first year of teaching. … 2nd grade. Jo, the second youngest, owns her own salon. … I know, she’s so amazing, she’s only 21. And my youngest sister is a junior in high school.

I miss them all so much. So I’m counting down the days until Thanksgiving break too.

Hey, I’m going to go get another drink. Can I get you something? … Cream, no sugar, got it. … No, no my treat.

(long pause)

And here you go. Enjoy.

(pause, about to start grading again)

How’s your book? It must be good. (you’ve obviously been staring) You have a big smile on your face as you’re reading.

What else are you into? Like what do you do for fun? I mean, besides reading.

Oh that’s cool. What type of stuff do you write?

Ah. (small sheepish laugh) No wonder you didn’t seem to like that I just skimmed the poems and songs.

Oh, I actually write a bit too, but I write music.

(not bragging, just matter of fact) I play a few actually, mostly piano and guitar, but sorta fake my way through on bass guitar, ukulele, mandolin...

Yeah. But other than that, it’s all math all the time. (realizing he wasn’t actually kidding) That’s actually not such an exaggeration these days.

(another long comfortable pause while he goes back to grading and she starts reading)
{SFX: Cafe noise, plus some rustling papers and pen scratches}

(looking up from your work) Hmm? … Oh. I have quite a bit more grading still. But I don’t need to finish it now.

Honestly, I was just going to leave whenever you wanted so I could walk you to wherever you’re going next. (sincerely) It would make me feel better. Hopefully, make you feel better, too.

Oh, an Art Show opening. With experimental performance art? Sounds…(refraining from too much judgment)...interesting. I could check that out. Wait, you are asking me to go with you, right?

Ok, good. Then, I’d love to.

(straightforward and confident) Hey, before we get going, can I give you my phone number? Then you could call or text me, if you wanted, no pressure. … Yeah, because then I could ask you to meet up again another time. I thought I’d spare asking you today though. … Well, I didn’t want you to feel like you were “out of the frying pan and into the fire” so to speak, with unwanted advances.

(sweet little sigh, happy) Hmm, yeah, I suppose it is different if the advances are wanted.

(confident and steady) Well, if that’s the case, would you like to go to dinner and a movie sometime this week? (teasing) Just one. Not a whole trilogy. This time. … Yes? (very happy) Well, great. It’s a date.

Should we get going then? To the Art Show?

{SFX: Rustling and stacking of paper and packing up overlapping the next line.}
Ok. Let me just. Get. My. Things. Ok.

(picking up coffee cups) And let me get these for you.

(flirty) Ok, after you, Sugar Bear…

My Masterlist

My Masterlist? Er, My Mini-list, maybe? I’ve only been writing audio roleplay scripts for about a month, “Masterlist” seems like a bit of an overinflation. But putting out a list of what I’ve written so far seems really organized…also, it's a bit of shameless self-promotion. Ick, sorry. Anyways, please take a look if you’d like.

Overall Energy: All my scripts are SFW. I like writing slice-of-life stuff that seems safe and secure, open and honest, comforting and wholesome. And I’d like to think most of the have at least a bit of humor to them too.

My Script Rules: Full rules are in each script link, please read through them. But for ease, here’s the gist:

  • Monetization is ok.

COMFORT | HURT | REASSURANCE | REVERSE COMFORT

[F4A] [F4M] [F4F] Do you think it was the meatballs? [Pregnant Speaker] [Anxious First Time Parent Listener] [Self-Doubt] [Reassurance] [Pep Talk] [Established Relationship] [First Time Parents] [Slice of Life] [Real Life Romance]
Let's set the scene: It’s been a long, quiet car trip home. You’re internally freaking out. You and your wife/girlfriend are going to have a baby in about two months, the nursery is barely started, and you don’t feel ready. Your head is swimming and your stomach hurts, but how can you tell her about your anxiety and self-doubt? You don’t want to worry her, you're supposed to be her rock, but you’re seconds away from crumbling.  Word Count: 1000, dialogue only

[A4A] Crying Over Spilled Milk [Reverse Comfort] [Crying] [Emotional] [CW: Childhood Trauma]
Let's set the scene: You’re home from a night out with friends. Everyone had a great time. But your partner/boyfriend/girlfriend/friend has been seeming a little distracted, a little distant. Now you’re getting ready for bed and it’s time to check-in. Word Count: 1000, dialogue only

DATING | FRIENDS TO MORE | NEW RELATIONSHIP | STRANGERS TO FRIENDS

[M4F] [M4M] [F4F] First Third Date [Dating] [New Relationship] [Holding Back] [Honesty] [Healthy Communication] [Discussion of Past Relationship] [“The First Cut is the Deepest”] [Real Life Romance] [Date Night]
Let's set the scene: The guy/gal/person you’ve been seeing has asked you over to talk. You’ve really enjoyed all the time you’ve spent together and you want to continue seeing them. But do they feel the same way? It feels like they’re holding back and you’re not sure why. Hopefully, tonight will lend some clarity to how they’re feeling about you. Word Count: 1100, dialogue only

[A4A] Cute Human Confessions [Flirting] [Laughter] [Friends to More] [Confession] [Kissing]
Let's set the scene: Today you’re meeting up with your friend in the park to catch up, people watch, and drink some coffee and boba. You’ve always felt like there could be more there, but they’ve always been dating this person, or you’ve been dating that person. It’s never been an issue though, being just friends has been full of adventure and fun. It’s great just the way it is. I mean, sure they’re always making you laugh, and doing adorable stuff, and whenever they start talking about their nerdy wildflower-and-bug-obsession-thing you swoon a bit, but hey, it’s fine. They probably don’t even feel the same way, right? Or do they? Word Count: 1400, dialogue only

You’re starting to panic when you feel a gentle hand on your shoulder… Word Count: 1400, dialogue only

DOMESTIC BLISS | REAL LIFE ROMANCE | SLICE OF LIFE

[A4F] [M4F] [F4F] Do you come here often? [Night Life] [Wholesome] [Flirting] [Real Life Romance] [Falling in Love] [Cuter than a Meet Cute] [Kissing]
Let's set the scene: You’re out for the night, enjoying a glass of wine, and are now being chatted up with cheesy cliches and icebreaker questions. Interesting.  It’s ok, they are extremely cute. And very endearing. And you really do have so much in common. You’re willing to see how this plays out. Word Count: 1200, dialogue only. Written with a second VA needed for a cameo.

[M4F] An Odyssey of Cake and Candles [Funny] [Re-Imaging of The Odyssey] [Short, fun script]
Let's set the scene: Your husband has been gone for over 2 hours, where in Hades is he already!? Your son’s 2nd Birthday has already started and family and friends are all gathered. You’ve fed them, but they’re starting to get really pushy about getting on with the party, especially Auntie Nes! You're about to try to call your husband again for the millionth time, when he busts through the back door into the kitchen with the cake and a grocery bag. Oh my gods, he’s a mess and looks like he’s aged 20 years! Where has he been? Does it even matter? Let’s just get ready to serve the cake. Word Count: 1000, dialogue only

My Masterlist: Available soon. UPDATE: Take a look here.
(This is only my 6th script, well kind of my 7th. The last one I wrote is in “time out”, because it sucks; maybe I’ll dust it off at some point, and maybe not. Regardless, this is the 6th completed script. Any helpful and constructive tips from script writers and voice actors welcome.)

***

Setting: Large city park. There’s a cafe stand with tasty drinks, and a ton of benches to sit. It’s a beautiful day and the park is busy with people exercising, strolling, picnicking, etc.

Speaker: Charismatic and kind with a great laugh. You’re happy to see your friend who you love spending time with. As the scene goes on, pacing gets slower and a bit more intense and serious and flirtatious. As it goes on even further, a bit of nerves start to build, as you near confessing to liking the listener and wanting to kiss. P.S. You’re also really into pollinators, conservation, and native flowers, you big nerd.

***

The Script:

{Optional SFX: Outdoor park sounds. Birds singing, light chatter, wind, maybe a dog bark every once in a while.}

(excitedly) Hiya! How are you? Look what a beautiful day we have, earlier in the week it said it was going to rain and I was worried we’d have to switch plans.

(smile in your voice) I know, I’ve been looking forward to seeing you too.

So whatcha thinking? Grab a drink then go sit on the benches and people watch.

…

I love it too. I like to think up little stories for everyone in the park.

What do you want to drink? I’ll order, if you go grab us a bench.

Ok. I’ll meet you over there soon.

… (longer pause/time jump)(now joining the listener on the bench)...

Alright, so who do we have at the park today? (handing over the listener’s drink) Here’s your latte. (making it up as you go, almost gossipy) I mean I saw the couple on their first, um, no second date, over here. They work together at the museum across the street. He’s…a historian, and she works at guest services. He’s totally smitten, she’s not sold yet.

No, don’t worry about it. You can get my tea next time. Or not. Really, it’s no biggie.

(genuinely interested) How have you been? Like really? I’ve been thinking of you with that big project at work. … I’m so proud of you, you know. You totally landed your dream job and now you’re kicking ass at work. … No, I’m sure it can be stressful, and being sorta dropped in mid-project has got to be overwhelming. But I’m just really impressed with you, ok. (teasing but honestly proud) Just let me be proud of you, alright!

My job? (bored)  It’s fine. Clock in, clock out, wait for the weekend. It pays well, which I’m thankful for, but definitely not my dream job. (more upbeat) I’m starting my Master’s in the fall though. … Conservation biology. … Yeah, yeah. Thanks, I’m excited too. It’s time.

What do you think of these two? Friends? Lovers?

Oh? Very interesting, I wouldn’t have guessed she was a spy.

(big genuine laugh) Yes, I guess that is the point. Well, she’s obviously good at her job! (smaller laugh, smiling)

And how’s everything with… (quickly cut off) over. Got it. Well, I’m sorry.

Oh, no! No, that didn’t work out either. … No, it’s ok, it’s been over between us for a while now.

Sooo… (realizing their both single for the first time and a bit feeling awkward about it)

(changing the subject) Hmm, what do you think’s going on with this guy and his dog?

Heh. I’ve never thought of it like that, objectively humans are pretty cute. Like aliens or angels or something observing us would think we humans, on the whole, do some adorable things sometimes. Like why do we love pets so much? They’re an entirely different species and we just adopt them into our family units. And we fall so in love with them.

(Laughs) Yes! And speak baby talk to them!

Oh, that’s definitely a cute human thing too! (doing “the” cat call) Pspspspsp. To a cat! (again, for extra absurdity) Pspspsp. (laughing) Do cats even come to that? They’re probably just wondering what the heck we’re doing. (still laughing)

Yeah, that too, I mean obviously cats and dogs. But like every animal needs to be pet, right? Raccoon? I want to pet it. Tiger? I want to pet it! Polar bear? Yes please! A chlamydia riddled koala?! (big laugh) No, you would! .. Not me, no way. (still laughing)

Awww, yes. Like when you see them from the highway, you have to point them out. (excitedly) And, and! Go (imitates a cow) moooooooo! Everyone does it, it’s pretty much the law. … Oh my goodness, yes! I don’t think I’ve ever seen more cows than that weekend. (adoringly) And you diligently moo’ed at all of them.

Yes, sneezing in general is cute but also the fact that humans love to say Bless You. (small laugh) Remember when we went to the movies last month and I sneezed in the middle of it and someone a couple of rows back in a whisper yelled (in a loud whisper) “Bless you”! (chuckle) It’s like they couldn’t not say it.

Oh yes, that too! A perfect example of human cuteness.

Or the fact that humans aren’t aquatic or even amphibious but we flock to water to just play in it! … Right, there’s definitely no human evolutionary need to water ski! (big laugh)

Oh my goodness! I’ve never thought of applause like that! Just a big ole group of cute humans slapping their hands together in unison. (big chuckle)

Yes, definitely, responding to music. And dancing! (earnestly) Humans have come up with a million different ways to dance and move our bodies to music. If that’s not adorable human stuff, I don’t know what is.

(excitedly thinking of it) Oh, and happy dances! Like that sweet little shimmy dance you make before you eat a dessert. … What? You look adorable. Your eyes get so big, and your butt kinda wiggles like you have a puppy tail, and your shoulders bob up and down. (genuinely) I love it. (walking it back a bit) I mean, er, you’re probably not the only human to do it or anything, but it is cute. (small, sweet nervous laugh)

Yes, laughing! … (surprised) Oh, especially my laugh. (happy) Hmm. Thanks. (slower, a bit shy) I’m glad you like it, because you make me laugh a lot. (returning the “compliment”) I love that little snort you make when you laugh, when something is really funny. … (honestly, slowly) I’m not making fun, I swear. I honestly think it's so cute and endearing.

(disbelief) You think it’s cute when I talk about bees, really? You’re definitely just making fun of me now. … (a bit defensive) Well of course I’m passionate about it! Pollinators are responsible for (listener is saying the same thing at the same time) 1 out of 3 bites of food…we…eat. Yes, that’s right. I’m glad you remembered, I guess I have mentioned that before. … Honey bee? You just said honey bee, like just those two words are going to get me up on my soapbox. Well, it’s not. (can’t help yourself, explodes) They’re just livestock!! (ranting) They’re important for honey production obviously, but saying “Save the Bees” and talking about the European Honey Bee, is like saying “Save the Birds” and talking about chickens! It’s asinine! (passionately) It’s native bees that need the help, (softening) and why are you smiling like that?
Ok, ok. You got me up on my soapbox, I’ll get down now. You did all that to rile me up so I’d nerd out about bees?

I guess I don’t disagree. It is really nice to hear someone passionate about something, anything. I listened to a guy at work talk about Excel for 20 minutes straight the other day. I wasn’t even upset about it because he was just so in his element, you know. I couldn’t care less about spreadsheets, but it was like he cared enough for the both of us.
Ok, so being passionate about a niche interest or hobby, very cute.
(quiet moment)
(sincere and tender) I love when you tell me about a book you read and liked, or read and hated, it doesn’t really matter, I just love hearing about it. You get so animated. (heartfelt) I just can’t take my eyes off of you.

Saying sorry to inanimate objects when they’re bumped? I don’t think all humans do that, do they? … No, I know I do. I’m exceptionally polite. (small laugh)

(slower now, sincere) I think it’s really cute how you react to every meme I send you. Like every single one.

(flattered) Mmm. Mhmm. I’m glad you think that’s cute.

I think it’s cute when humans celebrate birthdays, like people getting together to say “we’re happy you were born.” Speaking of, we need to decide what we’re doing for your birthday this month. … (slowly, with intention) Well, yes, because I am. Very happy. You were born.

(still having fun, but everything is a bit more intense, they’re looking deep into each other’s eyes) Ok, stealing clothing? That sounds specific. It’s a men’s oversized sweatshirt and it’s perfect. Sorry. And I like the smell. Besides, you have my blanket from when we went to the baseball game a couple months ago.

I think it’s incredibly cute how you hum when you’re doing little tasks. Yes, yes, when you do that, or other humans do that, it’s very, very sweet.

(flirty, slow, intense) And flirting. Yes, agreed. It’s one of the absolute cutest things humans do.

(going for it now!) You know, I think you’re cute. I do. I probably have, well, since I met you. But the more I get to know you, I just keep finding more and more cute and adorable and amazing things about you. You’re so kind, and caring, and I’ve always felt comfortable around you, from the second we met. And I think you’re brilliant, and creative, and interesting. I think you’re probably the cutest human of them all.

Oh, really?

(slowly and a bit quiet) Our timing has always just been off. But I dunno, it feels pretty perfect right now, don’t you think?

It’s ok. I think blushing is a cute human thing too.

And the way we get so nervous before a first kiss.

Can I? Can I kiss you?

(Kissing!)

(blissful) Mmm. (kiss drunk) I’ve wanted to do that for so long. … You have too? (super smooth) Well, maybe we should do it again?

(More kissing!)

(still flirty but calm and in control) I’m happy to stay here longer. Or what do you say we walk over to the other side of the park? There’s a garden featuring native prairie wildflowers, some are even endemic. (teasing a bit) There’s sure to be loads of native bees and butterflies. Let’s see if I can really get you going, ey? (listener elbows you softly) Ow, hey.
(small, flirty laugh) And then after that, I’d like to take you to dinner. A date. Sound, ok? … Good. … Shall we then?

***

Author’s note: I’m a sucker for any time there’s an article or post about humans being adorable and sweet beings. I gobble it up. We all know humans certainly aren’t great all the time. But some of the quirky habits of our species are objectively, well, cute.

Also, my husband and I were good friends for FIVE years before we got together. It was mostly timing, everyone knew we’d be awesome together, even us, but it just never quite happened…until it did. And I’m so glad it did because he’s amazing. And he’s probably proof-reading this right now.  Hi, babe!

My Masterlist: Available soon.
(This is only my 5th script, but I am enjoying the writing process. I still have lots to learn though. Helpful and constructive tips from script writers and voice actors welcome.)

***

Setting: At the speaker and listener’s home. Mostly takes place in a kitchen, and there is an adjacent dining room.

Speaker: This isn’t your typical ASMR Roleplay, in that the pacing is quick and a little frantic, and mostly delivered in full voice, not whispers. You, the speaker, are late, very late, and have been trying to get home forever. You’ve really had a cursed day, but are now pitching in to get this birthday party back on track.

***

The Script:

{Optional SFX: Door opening, then closing.}

(enters back door, panicked, late, and sorry) Oh, my goodness! I’m so sorry that took so long! And that my phone died! … I know, I know! (sighs) I’m fine. … Is everyone here already!?

(frazzled and apologetic) I know! I mean Helen’s Bakery has the best cakes, so beautiful, and tasty, and I knew it would take a little while to get over there and get ice cream and get back, but two freaking hours! I am so sorry, I left you alone to handle everything.

(high energy, retelling his tale) Yeah, yeah. I knew the bakery would be busy but I thought since I was just picking up the cake it’d be easier. Or maybe they’d even have a separate line just for pick-ups.

I know, what hubris!

So no, no separate line. So I’m waiting patiently and getting closer and closer to my turn, and the woman right in front of me, who was also picking up an order, got the wrong thing, or the wrong number of things, I’m not sure. And then it was like every person in the bakery was trying to figure out went wrong.

(flabbergasted) The whole bakery was at a stand still! It’s like we just hit a wall!

Thankfully, I was wearing this silly party shirt already! The baker saw the big horse on my shirt, just like the one on the cake, and must’ve recognized it, because she said “Oh, are you here to pick-up the horse birthday cake?”

It was my in! I know!! Thank the gods because I’m pretty sure that woman with the wrong order was about to Karen that place to the ground.

Oh, you haven’t looked yet? The cake is perfect. The horse is amazing. “Saddle Up! Telly is turning 2!”
That’s right, right? That’s what you wanted it to say. Whew.

(slower beat, sentimental) I know, our little Prince is turning 2. (sigh)

(back to getting things ready and telling more of his story) Anyways, so I got the cake and I was ready to head home. But I remembered the ice cream! So I stopped by a random grocery store by the bakery. Big mistake. I should’ve gone to our grocery store around the corner!

(an aside from the story, practical) Yeah, I got candles too. They’re in the bag. But the ice cream is completely liquid now. Sorry. … But hey, hey. Cake and candles, that is just fine!

…

(back the story!) So after checking out. I went to leave, right? And the automatic doors were acting up. They weren’t opening and closing properly. They’d open part way, for like for a second or two, and then snap shut.

People were just piling up near the door and pretty soon some grocery store workers came over, but they didn’t really know what to do either!
So then when the doors would open, the workers would pull the doors apart further until they couldn’t hold them anymore, and let them shut. But only like 2 people were getting out of there at a time.

I know! There had to be a better way!
But there we were, all in a huddle like sheep or something, waiting for our turn to be let out. It took for fucking ever!

So, I finally got out of there. (sigh)

{Optional SFX: Drawers opening and closing. Shuffling around. Searching.}

(searching) Where’s the big knife we use for cutting cakes and stuff? I swear it’s always moving around this kitchen!

(the story continues, still faster tempo) Oh, and then I was walking to the car and I let out the longest list of expletives ever, all the good ones, (a little embarrassed) and then I noticed a Dad with his son were right next to me.

The boy just looked at me and started wailing, like absolutely wailing, like I’d just, I dunno, poked him in the eye or something. And the Dad looked at me so disgusted.

(remorseful) No, no, what I said was absolutely filthy. I shouldn’t have said it. I’ve been thinking about it though, and I’m pretty sure that Dad cursed me or something, (exasperated) because I got to the car and BOTH the passenger side tires were flat! BOTH!

(getting closer to being ready for cake) Hand me those plates, I’ll take them.

I know. I have one spare tire, yes, but not two! Who has two!?

(nearly ready for cake time) Right, right and the plastic forks?

(back to the story) So then I decided to just Uber home, and worry about the car later. And it was awesome because it was like (speaking as the app, robotic) “Calli is 2 minutes away”. She got there, saved me, and I thought we were on our way home, smooth sailing.

(a bit slower now) I was going to text you from the Uber, but that’s when I realized my phone had died. (apologetic) I knew you hadn’t heard from me since the bakery. You were probably so worried, I’m so sorry!

(back to the story, exasperated) Anyways, we were most of the way home and I realized I forgot the gods damned cake in our car back at the grocery store!! I had to have her go all the way back!

I probably should’ve been more upset, but Calli had obviously been hot boxing in the car before pick-up. I was stoned on a contact buzz the whole time!! (laughs) Thankfully, really. Because I would’ve been losing my shit otherwise.

Oh, my gods, you smell it!? … No, it’s not B.O.! (considering) Well actually, it could be that too.

(randomly remembering one more part) Oh, and there was a fun fair, petting zoo thing blocking our route at one point. I swear to you, a whole herd of pigs crossed the road in front of us! … I know!

{Optional SFX: Door from the dining room into the kitchen opens}

(to toddling son, in calmer, dad voice) Hey, hey, Telly Monster! Daddy’s home now! We’re about to have cake, buckaroo! You need to go back into the dining room so we can sing to you. C’mon. Mommy and Daddy will be out in a second.

(walking Telly back and yelling out into the dining room to friends and family) Hey, hey, everyone! We’re about to have cake. Yay!!
Yeah, yeah, I’m here now. Listen, I’ve literally been to hell and back today!
Can you help get Telly in his seat?
Auntie Nes, will you hit the lights?

{Optional SFX: Dining room door closes again}

(panicked disbelief) I had no idea there were so many people here!
(annoyed) They’re all just feasting in there.
(annoyed whisper) And drinking a lot of wine too, no? … I get it, I get it. You had to do what you had to do.
(angry, annoyed whisper) But I don’t feel bad about us not having ice cream at all now!

(normal voice again) Sorry, sorry. I’m just tired and hungry.

I’m sure you’re tired too. Thanks for holding down the fort, Pen. I love you.

Ready?

{Optional SFX: Door to the dining room swings open again.}

(boisterous and upbeat) “Happy Birthday to you….” (fades out)

***

Author’s note: This is my very silly little re-imagining of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, which I saw yesterday. The film is obviously based on the book, Homer’s The Odyssey, which I haven’t read since I was 15. I don’t care to disclose how many years ago that was for me. ;)

I hope you enjoy it! My script, but also the movie, it was badass.

My Masterlist: Available soon.
(This is my fourth script, and I’m still just figuring it all out, but enjoying the writing process. Helpful and constructive tips from script writers and voice actors welcome.)

***

Setting: After a night out with friends, the couple are home getting ready for bed in their room.

Speaker: The speaker is really processing here. You've been quiet a lot of the evening, and certainly since getting home. In the beginning of the scene, even though you’re talking to the listener, you're a bit distracted and not completely engaged. Your heart is already heavy, feeling what their brain hasn't quite processed yet. Once everything clicks in more, you're emotional and cry.

Though this couple has been out for the night with friends and has had a couple of drinks, neither is drunk or tipsy.

***

The Script:

{Optional SFX: None needed but if you like this part of the gig, there could be lights going off, drawers closing, light footsteps around the room, etc. The couple is getting ready for bed. Overall the scene is quiet and still.}

I’m done in the bathroom, if you need to get back in there. … No? Ok.

Yeah,  I did have a good time tonight. It was so good to see everyone. I don’t remember the last time we all got together. It’s been too long.

Yeah, I didn’t know she got a new job. I’m such a bad friend. (small laugh)

No, I don't think we need an alarm for the morning.

I agree. I like that place. I’m a sucker for a patio in summer with twinkle lights though. We should go back soon.

Did you like your drinks?

(distracted) What? Yeah, I did too.

Um, yeah, my burger was good too. Was your food good?

Shoot. I forgot the light in the hall. … Thanks.

Hmm? Yes, I liked him too. I was worried by some of the early reports, but seeing them together, I get it. They seem really good for each other. He kinda seems perfect for him honestly. Did you see them holding hands? … Yeah, it was cute.

(distracted again) What? No, I’m fine. Why?

Oh, have I been? No, I’m fine.

Hmm? (flatly) Oh, oh yeah. That was funny.

No, I’m fine. … But, can I ask you something? … No, no it’s nothing. Nevermind. (small laugh, genuinely wanting to drop it)

It’s really nothing. My mind just keeps looping back to this one thing. And it’s so little. … God, nevermind, it’s nothing. I’m just tired. Are you ready for bed?

Ha, if you only knew how many small things my mind gets tripped up on, you'd know… (trailing off)

Ok. Ok, but it’s going to sound so stupid.

(deep sigh)

Ok. So do you remember when Levi bumped the table really hard on accident?

Yah, and like a couple empties fell over, and some cups with just ice left tipped, and your drink spilled.

Yeah, ok. (in awe) And then Levi just picked up a wad of napkins and swept all the ice and spilled liquid into an empty pitcher? He didn’t even skip a beat.

Then he called the server over to get you a new drink, and she took the order and cleared the mess without barely saying anything? Like it was just (breezy) fine.

Do you remember what he said? He said, “Well there’s no use crying over spilled milk,” and then kept on telling his story. Do you remember that?

(a little nervous to ask) But, but is that the saying? Is the saying, “There’s no use crying over spilled milk”?

Oh, it is. Oh, ok. (really wanting to drop it) See I told you it was nothing then.

No, it’s just because I thought it was, “Don’t cry over spilled milk.”

(a little more emotional, than expected) Oh, sure. That makes sense. It is probably just a shortened version. Right, right. (shaky quickened breaths)

But, but the way he said it, (gulp) the way it’s supposed to be said, it's like “hey, no big deal”, right? (eyes stinging) Like clean it up, order a new drink, and move on. Like he did. Like everyone did. If I didn’t bring it up, I bet you barely would’ve remembered that it even happened, right?

I dunno. I mean yeah, I’ve been thinking about it. I dunno, I’ve kinda been processing it since it happened. Sorry, I got quiet.

Well, like the saying isn’t about spilling anything really, is it? Beer or milk or whatever. It’s about getting past a small mistake or accident, something that can’t be changed, and just sort of moving forward. Without admonishment or punishment.

Because I always thought it was “Don’t cry over spilled milk”, and was more like “don’t you dare cry, especially since you’re the one who spilled milk”, or beer… or broke something… or did something wrong… or inconvenienced every one.

I thought it was a warning.

Was that…just me?

(listener is staring at you, sad, but understanding better now)

Why are you looking at me like that? What? Because I’m in my 20’s and am just realizing what it meant? …No? (answering themselves) No, because the way I heard it, the way I had to hear it, isn’t normal, right? Your eyes look so sad.

(emotion growing, voice and breath shaky) So then, um, tonight, did your stomach drop and your jaw clench when all of those drinks and bottles and cups spilled? Did you feel scared? Did you hold your breath waiting to see if we were about to get in trouble?

(flatly) No. I didn’t think so. Because that’s not a normal reaction either, is it?

So that’s probably because of how I grew up, huh? (starting to cry)

Yes, I would like a hug please.

{Optional SFX: Fabric rustling. Hugging}

I’m not sure why this is all hitting me so hard. It doesn’t matter.

This is all so silly. Someone said an offhanded comment earlier tonight, and now I’m crying. Which I hate.

No, I know, I know. I know it’s good.

(starts sobbing now)

I’m an adult. They can’t hurt me anymore.

But I still worry when my joy is too loud.
Or when my shower is too long.
Or when drinks are knocked over.
When I feel too much.
When I’m too much. (big sob)

I’m an adult. They can’t hurt me anymore. But they’re still in my head.

I’m afraid to be yelled at because I might cry.

I’m  afraid to cry because I could be hit.

I’m afraid to cause any problems at all because I might have to go down to the basement. I’m sorry. I’m sorry.

I know. I know.

I’m safe. I’m safe.

I’m ok. I’m ok.

(big sob)

Why would someone treat a kid like that? Their own child?

I would never.

I will never.

(heart breaking) What about me is so unlovable?

(biggest sobs)

I know you love me. I know. And I love you.

I know you'd never treat me like that.

Thank you. Thank you.

(crying slows, breaths still shaky)

Can you just hold me?

{Optional SFX: Hugging}

Sometimes I can almost convince myself that I had a good childhood.
 I have good memories.

But she was just so volatile. So unpredictable.

And I had to manage myself…to stay safe.
And I’m still finding these little ways that I’m still, I dunno, holding my breath.

(a couple more small sobs, exhausted)

(sniffing, exhausted) I’m tired. I think I just want to go to bed. Is that ok with you?

Will you still hold me though? … Thank you.

{Optional SFX: Fabric rustling. More hugging.}

Thank you for being kind.

And caring.

And understanding.

(laughing a little) And for letting me get tears and snot all over your t-shirt. I’m sorry. (small chuckle and sigh)

(sincerely) Thank you for never making me feel like I'm too much.

I love you too. Thank you.

Synopsis: The guy/gal/person you’ve been seeing has asked you over to talk. You’ve really enjoyed all the time you’ve spent together and you want to continue seeing them. But do they feel the same way? It feels like they’re holding back and you’re not sure why. Hopefully, tonight will lend some clarity to how they’re feeling about you.

Setting: The speaker’s apartment.

Speaker: The speaker is a little nervous, especially at the beginning. Despite wanting to stay safe and closed off, they’ve decided to be incredibly open and vulnerable with the listener. It’s difficult, but also cathartic. Tonight they’re just putting it all out there.

***

The Script:

{Optional SFX: Opens apartment door.}

Hey, thanks for being ok with this impromptu get together. Come in, come in.

I ordered food. It should be here in a little bit. Can I get you something to drink?...Yup, with dinner, great.

(more out of obligation, than curiosity) So how was your day? … Good, good.

(nervously) Sorry, I’m kinda nervous. And it’s hard to make small talk right now. (swallows hard) Can we talk? … Ok, great. Thanks. Wanna sit on the couch?
{Optional SFX: Sitting down on the couch. Getting situated.}

(really nervous now) Great, great. Hmm, ok, but where to start.

Um, I guess I’ll start with this. I like you. I really do.

(listener is surprised)

(disappointed in yourself) I can tell you didn’t really know that. I knew I wasn’t letting you know enough. (sincerely) I’m sorry.

I want to explain myself. But I just sort of need to plow through it. Is it ok, if I just get this all out, and maybe you could just listen. Is that ok? You’re sure … Ok. Ok.

(audible exhale)

We’ve been on two dates, like two proper dates. A couple good hangs. (smiling) Great hangs actually. And your office happy hour thing. And I’ve really enjoyed them all. Truly.
I’ve enjoyed texting with you in the morning, throughout the day, and late into the night.
I’ve enjoyed getting to know you, and your cat, he’s not to be forgotten.
I’ve enjoyed the hugs, and cuddles. (shyly) The kissing.
I’ve enjoyed it all! Because I like you.

But I feel like you’re starting to pull back. And I think that’s because I’ve been kinda closed off, right? (listener nods yes) Yeah, I thought so. I’m sorry.

I’ve been wanting to ask you out on a third date for awhile. But there’s something about a third date, right? Like the first date is all nerves and optimism. The second date is less nerves, but more feeling each other out, seeing if there’s a real connection.

And then like the third date (gulps) there’s some pressure to move the needle, to either step on the gas or hit the brakes. And there’s definitely that whole “sex on a third date” thing. (can’t believe you said that out loud) Not that I’d expect that! That’s not what I’m saying!

(sorta to yourself) God, I’m so in the weeds. I’m still not saying what I want to say, geez.

(getting back on track) The real thing is that I haven’t been on a third date, well, kinda ever. First dates, yes, quite a few. Second dates, a lot fewer. Third dates, not so much.

But I was in love. We were together for 7 years.

(this is new info and the listener looks a little shocked)

(serious, ready to talk about what you’ve been needing to talk about) So, yeah, we went to school together since we were in kindergarten, I dunno, maybe pre-school. I’d always known her and we’d always been friends but when we were 16 we started going out. We were young, but it was real.

We didn’t go to the same college, but both our schools were in the city.

And yes, yes, we went on dates, more than three. (small laugh) But it was just sorta like we’d just always been together. We were each other’s first…everything…

When we graduated, we both got jobs in the city, and moved into an apartment together.

I immediately started saving up to buy her a ring.

I had our whole life planned. We’d get married, and be the hottest, coolest couple in the city, and then we’d get pregnant, and move to the suburbs. Get a mortgage, I dunno, get a big grill or something, and a golden retriever. Have some more kids. And be happy. I was happy, so happy. I could see it. I wanted that. I wanted it with her.

(slow and somber) So, I got the ring.
I planned the proposal.
I waited for Christmas Eve with her family.
I made a big speech in front of everyone and got down on one knee.
I asked her to be my wife.

(even more somber) She just stared at me.
I looked around the room. Her whole family, who had become my second family, just stared at me.

She told me to get up. She said we should talk at home, privately.

She told me that she wasn’t happy. She hadn’t been happy for a while.

She said she still cared about me, but she wasn’t in love. Not anymore.

It was over. We were over.

She said I didn’t do anything wrong.

But I did. The person I’d loved more than anything was unhappy, and I didn’t notice. I’ve played nearly every second of our relationship over in my head since. And there were signs. I just missed them. All of them.

I was happy and I assumed she was. I was in love, so in love, and I assumed she was.

She transferred her job across the country.

And I stayed in our apartment, alone.

Fourteen months later she announced her engagement on Instagram. Someone she met in her new city, her new life. When I saw the photo. Her smile. It was so big, so genuine. And it really hit me how long it had been since I’d seen her smile like that.

(big exhale)(steady inhale)

So she was engaged. And I hadn’t even gone on a date.

If I’m being honest, I’d barely left our (oops) my apartment except for work.

(another breath)
I’m doing better now. I moved out of that apartment. I’ve rejoined the land of the living. I reapplied myself at work and even got a couple of promotions. I eventually got on the apps. Started dating.

I am doing better. But there’s still just some hurdles I haven’t gotten past.

I want to try and love again. But it's hard.

(sincerely) I’m sorry I’ve been closed off. That’s just me getting in my own way.

Because meeting you, spending time with you, I don’t know, I can see getting past some of those hurdles. With you.

Don’t worry, I’m not thinking about grills and golden retrievers. (small chuckle)

But I am thinking I’d like to ask you on a third date.

They’re having movies in the park every Saturday this summer. This Saturday it’s When Harry Met Sally. I’ll take care of dinner and drinks and a blanket and everything.

I want to accelerate, not hit the brakes.

(open and honest) I don’t want to be stuck anymore. I want to move forward. With you. Because I think you’re great.

So what do you say? Would you please go on a third date with me?

… (listener happily agrees)...

(very happy) Oh, good. I know you love that movie. So when I saw it’s playing, I knew it was perfect.

(worried) But? But what?

(shocked) Eighth!? By your count it’ll be our 8th date!? How?
(more shocked) And this is our 7th date right now!? (laughs)

So the night we watched that Netflix movie and drank beer and talked until like 2 in the morning. That’s what you’re counting as our 3rd date?

(laughs again, happy) Well, that was an amazing 3rd date then.

I can’t believe I’ve been so hung up on what number date it is! Like what does it matter? It doesn’t. I like you. (small laugh)

I like you and I like spending time with you.

Let’s have a lot more amazing dates, huh?

{Optional SFX: Door bell, door buzzer, or knock at the door.}

Ope, that’s the food.

Should we eat on the balcony and watch the sunset? … Yeah?  That sounds like a really wonderful date to me.

***

Author’s note: The song “The First Cut is the Deepest” is the inspiration for this script. I really love that song, and it gets stuck in my head sometimes, so it was the jumping off point for this script. Can you find the lyric hidden in the script? If you haven’t heard it before, here it is. This version is Cat Stevens, who wrote it. But it’s been covered dozens of times by other artists too.

My Masterlist: Available soon.
(This is my second script and honestly I’m super anxious about posting these, but I’m jumping in! Helpful and constructive tips from script writers and voice actors are welcome.)

***

Setting: You just pulled into your driveway, after a very quiet drive home. The car is jammed packed with flat pack boxes.

Speaker: Pregnant, very pregnant. She is kind, patient, and very understanding with her partner. She’s funny, but never at the expense of being caring and tender.

***

The Script:

{Optional SFX: Car pulling in, stopping, and turning engine off}

Hey babe, are you ok?

The only thing you’ve said in the last hour or so was thanking that guy for helping you load the heavy boxes into the car, and saying “ok” to stopping so I could use the restroom.

You didn’t even sing Pink Pony Club in that silly voice like you always do in the car.

(listener’s stomach hurts) ...

(genuine worry) Oh no, do you think it was the meatballs? The gravy can be a bit heavy! Or the lingonberry sauce, maybe? It’s kinda tart!

… (it’s not the meatballs) …

No? Is this different then? … Well, what’s going on?

(listener says they’re “feeling feelings”) ...

(a little silly) Feeling feelings, huh? Ugg, feelings are always doing that, making you feel them.

(kindly) They don’t always hurt your stomach though. Are you feeling anxious? Or? … (confirms) Anxious.

(still sort of upbeat) Not about putting all this stuff together though, right? Because I’m a wiz with an allen wrench and you’re amazing at following directions without words, just blobby human drawings.

(more serious, patient, kind) No, I know that’s not it. So talk to me. Please.

You’re feeling anxious about having a baby? Well, yeah! That makes sense. That makes total sense. (reaching to hold the listener’s hand) Is there something specific you’re worried about right now?

(baby’s don’t come with a manual, you know?)

No, no, there’s no manual. But there are probably a million books written on the subject. And you’ve read 3 of them, which is two and a half more than me.

(a little sarcastic) Oh, 4, well listen, it isn’t a competition, ok! (small laugh)

(sincere and comforting) But seriously, you’re doing the work. You’re reading the books, you’ve come to every appointment with me. If you’re even half as attentive to the baby as you’ve been to me the last 7 months, I think we’re going to be in really good shape.

(proving her point) And also, my brother is doing it! And doing it well actually! I mean, who would have thought.

Remember when he left the lid off his snake tank and it ate my little sister’s hamsters. Twice!

(not joking, sincere) But he’s doing so good. And really enjoying it too.  Did I tell you, he reminded me to wash my hands before holding her last time I was over!? He was right, of course, but I was shook.

And I guarantee he didn’t read 4 baby books.

… (we don’t even have the nursery all set up though!) …

(calmly and with care) No, no, it’s not done yet. It is all painted though. And we made huge progress today. By the end of this weekend, I think we’re going to be in really good shape.

Besides, newborns only see about 12 inches in front of them for the first couple months, they’ll never know if their room is “aesthetic” enough. Only Instagram cares about that. I mean, I don’t. Do you?

… (we don’t even have a crib ready!) …

(calming the listener's concerns) And we got all of those things today. The crib. The changing table. And we’re getting the rocker from your Grandma next weekend. Plus, we got about a hundred less necessary things today too.

(listener has an outburst. “We aren’t ready!”) ...

(very calm, soft, and comforting) I know, I know, I understand what you’re saying ok. (soothing) It’s ok. It’s ok. Let’s take a few breaths ok. (take some breaths. A couple or more.)

(asking kindly, supportive) Have you been afraid to bring this all up to me? … Babe, I’m pregnant, not made of glass. You can always talk to me.

(honestly) And, I mean, I’m nervous too.

(genuinely) But you know what I’ve never been nervous about? … If I picked the right person to do all this with.
Never.
You’re my pick.
You’re my pick for everything.
To assemble furniture with. To have a baby with. To figure out this new parenting adventure with. To raise a happy, healthy kid with. To do life with. We’re going to do it all together. Ok? Together, like we always do.

(back to breathing) There you go. Nice and slow. Inhale. Exhale.

So it’s mostly about not having the nursery together? (know’s that’s not it)

… (listener breaks down now, crying… “I’m worried I won’t be a good Dad / Mom / Parent!”) …

Oh, babe. Come here. (hugging)
{Optional SFX: rustling fabric and hugging noise}

Not be a good Dad? Sweetheart, I just don’t think it’s possible.

I know, I know, neither of us had the best examples growing up.
(exasperated) I mean hell, if you’re here this time next year you’ll be a better Dad than mine.

(reassuring) But even without those kinds of comparisons, you’re going to be an amazing Dad.

You’re kind. And compassionate. You have the biggest heart.

You’re patient. I mean I’ve been testing your patience for years, right?

And you’re caring. So caring. In fact, this self-doubt you’re feeling is because you care so much. It’s a good thing that you’re not wanting to just waltz into this Dad gig, without thinking twice.

Babe, listen, (pause for emphasis) doubt is a sign you care about what you’re doing, not proof that you can’t do it.

People who never doubt themselves aren’t doing any worth doubting. They’re staying where it’s safe, and doing what they’ve already done.

(real talk) Having kids, in this world, is scary shit. It takes extreme optimism to even think about doing it. Even if having kids seems like the most normal and natural thing in the world, what we’re doing, is big! … (agreeing with the listener) Yeah, having a baby is pretty punk, babe.

(more real talk) Also, guess what, we’re going to screw up. We are.

There isn’t a perfect parent in the world, and we won't be the first ones.

Nobody has it all figured out. We’ll get things right, and we’ll get plenty wrong too.

But we’re going to love this baby with everything we have, I know that. You know that.

And can I tell you something else? I hope this little baby boy or girl is so much like you. … I do.
I hope they’re smart like you.
And silly like you.
Thoughtful like you.
But I do hope they love to sleep like me. (both laugh now)

{Optional SFX: Soft kiss}

Are you feeling a bit better? … Yah.
Really? … Are you sure? …
Good because I have to pee so bad right now!!

My brother is supposed to come over in a little while to help carry all this stuff up to the nursery. Do you want me to call and ask him to bring our cutie, little niecey too?
If you help carry the heaviest boxes up, he and I can start building stuff, and you can hang out with her.
Maybe change a couple diapers? Give her a bottle? Smell her head? Sounds pretty good, huh? … Yeah? … I’m sure it’ll be fine! He’ll love the break, she’ll looove the break, and neicey will love your attention.

But before he gets here we can cuddle on the couch?

Maybe with the enormous Djungelskog bear we just bought? (mispronunciation/ silly pronunciation of Djungelskog is funny)

And maybe some snacks, too, pleeeease?

Ok. Let’s do it, let’s get out of the car before I bust.

(slows down again. sincere and heartfelt.) Hey, I love you. We got this.

{Optional SFX: Two car doors shut. Muffled talking and walking away. Fade out.}

[A4F] DO YOU COME HERE OFTEN? [Night Life] [Wholesome] [Flirting] [Real Life Romance] [Falling in Love] [Cuter than a Meet Cute] [Kissing]

Synopsis: You’re out for the night, enjoying a glass of wine, and are now being chatted up with cheesy cliches and icebreaker questions. Interesting.  It’s ok, he/she/they are extremely cute. And very endearing. And you really do have so much in common. You’re willing to see how this plays out.

This script is approximately 1000 words, excluding the (cues/action lines).

My Script Rules:

  • Monetization is okay, and paywall is okay, as long as I get a copy of the fill free of charge.
  • If you’d like to make it A4F, M4F, F4F, you may change whatever you need to fit that goal. However, for this specific script, I believe making the listener anything but F would need a bigger change. Please message me to open up that conversation, if it interests you.
  • All {SFXs} are completely optional. (Tonal cues) are written with time and care and should be considered, but are ultimately optional as well.
  • Small performance edits are okay, including sentence smoothing, swapping a words to make it sound more natural, adding/omitting speech fillers (uhh, mmm, huh, etc) or avoiding swear words. Please don’t make cuts, heavy rewrite/paraphrase, extensively ad-lib, change the structure or character intent, or add more than one or two short sentences without permission. If in doubt, just contact me first.
  • Please credit to u/TahneeGirl_December. Make sure to let me know in the comments or DM me if you fill this script. I can’t wait to listen!
  • Do not use AI voice for my scripts. Do not use my scripts for AI Training.
  • Do not write or publish sequels, continuations, or other works using my characters or stories without permission. DM me if you have questions on this topic.

(By recording or publishing a fill of this script, you agree to the terms above.)

My Masterlist: Available soon.
(This is my first script and honestly I'm pretty frightened, but I’m jumping in. Helpful and constructive tips from script writers and voice actors welcome.)

***

Setting: Classy bar. An immaculate old dark wood bar, with a well stocked back. Dim lighting. Great ambiance. The woman is sitting at the bar, as you walk up.

Speaker: Early to mid-40’s, dressed nicely. Confident, but a bit nervous around this beautiful woman, also in her early to mid-40’s. Rusty at picking up women but very flirtatious; wants to play it cool but can’t seem to always do it. Though some of your lines are cheesy, you’re always sincere.

***

The Script:

 {Optional SFX: Soft piano music. Light chatter. Classy bar sounds.}

[To the woman at the bar]
Hi. (clears throat) Hi. Hello. Is anyone sitting here? … Oh, great. Do you mind if I sit here? … Thanks. (she is looking at you a little confused)

[To the barkeeper]
Oh, yes, I’d like another whiskey. Neat.

[To the woman]
And would you like anything?
(feeling a little shot down) No? Ok. ok. Yeah, it does look like you just got that glass.

[To the barkeeper]
Just the whiskey then. Thank you.

[To the woman]

[To the barkeeper]
Oh, thank you, sir.
{Optional SFX: Continues to sip your drink throughout the rest of the scene during longer pauses.}

[To the woman]
What do I do if I’m not going out much? (blows raspberry, unsure how to impress her, decides to go with honesty) Well, to be honest, I’ve never been much of the going out type. But I definitely used to make it out more than I do now.

(thinking) But I, um, I definitely work quite a bit. I own a small business here in town, and that takes up a fair amount of time. I’m pretty hands on. At first it was because I needed to be, now I just can’t help myself, I guess. (small chuckle)

I, um, like to run. You know, good for my mental health. Physical health too, obviously, you know, cardio. It's important.

I have a small garden, so you know, that’s a thing that started a few years ago. (trailing off a bit, a little afraid that you’re being too boring)

And I like to read. But don’t worry, I balance that out with some absolute garbage TV. (small chuckle)...
I do. I read really, really smart books. The smartest. Very serious. Very thick books.
(she’s mentioned another “garbage TV show”) Oh my god, that one isn’t garbage though! It’s absolutely brilliant. (laughing)

What about you? What do you do when you’re not here…once a year…

(listening but also a little distracted) Yeah? … mmm … uh-huh … uh-huh …

(you’re caught) No, no, I’m sorry! I am absolutely listening! I am. (sincerely) But you are…you are absolutely stunning.
(deeply genuine) No, no, I mean it.

Huh.

 …

What else? I want to know more.

(She says something like “And I love to travel. But doesn’t everyone, right?”)

No, no. Not everyone loves to travel. I think some people are very content to stay where they are, you know. And, and! Traveling and vacationing are different, I think.

(a bit flustered) Oh, I’m not exactly sure. It was kind of an off the cuff thought. I guess I think traveling is for exploring, and vacationing is for relaxing. I dunno, maybe they can be the same. … Ok, ok, you understand what I mean then. So you love to travel. Me too.

What’s your favorite place you’ve traveled?

Me too, actually! I love that city!  The museums. The cafe culture. Wandering the streets. … Yes, and the pastries, of course. …
So when you travel … (a little nervous to ask, this could solidify her relationship status) Do you go on your own, like a solo travel thing? Or with someone special maybe? Er?...

Your best friend? (happy and deeply satisfied with that answer) Hmm. That probably makes it extra special then. (smiling)(she is too)

Your smile.
(small laugh) I’ve spent most of my life feeling anxious and uncomfortable.

Oh, thank you. I’ve always loved this jacket.
(sheepishly) But can I tell you, it felt a bit tighter than I would’ve liked when I put it on this evening.

(She compliments YOU)...

Well now I’m definitely blushing.

Can I get you another glass of wine? … Ok. It is getting late, I suppose.
But I don’t want the night to end. …
(absolutely smitten and hopeful) This isn’t just me, right? This is something special, right?

Can I, can I kiss you?

(Kissing. So much kissing.)

(softly, a little dazed) Do you wanna get out of here? (Giddy giggle)

(another smaller kiss)

I love you.

(a sigh and exhale)

(Tone shift. Back to reality. Voice is a bit more “normal”, less flirty)
{Optional SFX could shift to convey tone shift. Go quiet maybe? Or get louder?}

Yeah, no. We should probably go.
We did tell the babysitter we’d be home by 11. Do you think they’re still up? They better not be. … Yeah, probably. …
Oh, and I have an early food delivery at the coffee shop in the morning. … I know, I know, but I kinda like being there first thing in the morning still.

[To the barkeeper]
(obviously familiar with him) Hey, George, when you get a second, can we settle our tab? … Oh, great, thank you. … Yup, this year is 19. (proudly) And next year will be 20. … Absolutely! We’ll see you then, if not before. … I know, I know, it’s never before, is it?

[To the woman/Your wife!]
Do you want to wait here, and I’ll bring the car around? … Text Kayla that we’re on the way home? … Ok. I’ll see you outside in 5.

Hey (sincerely, gratefully, lovingly) thank you for continuing to choose me.

***

Author’s note: Hopefully it’s all very obvious by the end, but this is not a first chance meeting.
Their kids are at home with Kayla, the babysitter. They’re best friends and very in love, and I’m betting they always will be.
The twist of this being a couple should only be revealed at the end. Which means labeling this audio as Strangers to More?, Established Relationship, etc could confuse or ruin the twist.

Questions about Scriptbin, Google Docs, and general script posting stuff...

I'm super new at all of this. I'm usually a cautious, overthinking perfectionist, but I'm trying to be a bit more casual about this, learn by doing, and just jump in. I have a script (my first one!) that I'm hoping to post here in a day or two. But I can't completely quit my overthinking, so I have some questions.

  1. Should I create a Scriptbin from the beginning? What are the pros/cons to having one? Are most scriptwriters posting there as well? VAs, do you search Scriptbin for scripts too?

  2. As VAs or writers, what are your thoughts on scripts posted directly into Reddit vs. a link to the script in a Google doc? It seems like some writers do both?

  3. Any tips on writing "Script Rules" would be super helpful.

  4. Any sage advice on getting started would be greatly appreciated. I've read several posts where people gave wonderful advice, but I'm greedy, and I'm looking for all of your gems of wisdom.
