[A4F] [M4F] [F4F] Do you come here often? [Night Life] [Flirting] [Pick-up lines] [Real Life Romance] [Falling in Love] [Cuter than a Meet Cute] [Kissing] [Updated August 2026]
Hi! This is actually a re-release of sorts. Now with a second VA Cameo part and a bit of an updated ending! (I think both improve the script, which is the first one I wrote!)
***
[Second VA needed for a cameo. Or you can use a distinct second voice for the small part.]
***
Let’s set the scene: You’re out for the night, enjoying a glass of wine, and are now being chatted up with cheesy cliches and icebreaker type questions. Interesting. It’s ok, they are extremely cute. And very endearing. And you really do have so much in common. You’re willing to see how this plays out.
***
This script is approximately 1200 words, excluding the (cues/action lines).

Setting: Classy bar. An immaculate old dark wood bar, with a well stocked back. Dim lighting. Great ambiance. A woman is sitting at the bar, as you walk up.
Speaker: Early to mid-40’s, dressed nicely. You’re confident, but a bit nervous around this beautiful woman, also in her early to mid-40’s. You’re rusty at picking up women but very flirtatious; you want to play it cool but can’t seem to always do it. Though some of your lines are cheesy, you’re always sincere.
VA #2: Pretty straightforward, the barkeeper. I have him named George in the script, but a female VA can be used and George can be renamed.
***
The Script:
{SFX: Soft piano music. Light chatter. Classy bar sounds.}
[Speaker to the woman at the bar]
Hi. (clears throat) Hi. Hello. Is anyone sitting here? … Oh, great. Do you mind if I sit here? … Thanks. (she is looking at you a little confused)
[Barkeeper - VA #2 to Speaker]
Can I get you anything else this evening?
[Speaker to the barkeeper]
Oh, yes, I’d like another whiskey. Neat. Aaaand, umm…?
[Speaker to the woman]
And would you like anything?
…
(feeling a little shot down) No? Ok. ok. Yeah, it does look like you just got that glass.
[Speaker to the barkeeper]
Just the whiskey then. Thank you.
[Barkeeper - VA #2 to Speaker]
Let me get that for you, sir.
(pause)
[Speaker to the woman]
So, do you come here often? That is the most cliche thing to say, isn’t it? (laughs at yourself, a little nervous) Sorry.
…
(thankful she’s engaging with you) Oh, oh, about once a year? That isn’t too often then, I guess. It’s probably about the same for me. I don’t know why it’s not more than that. I like it here. It feels classy but not stuffy, you know. People dress up a bit to come here, but it doesn’t feel pretentious. It just strikes the right balance, you know. And the restaurant next door is amazing too.
Honestly, I just don’t go out that much anymore at all. I’ve gotten so lame as I’ve gotten older. … Well that's a relief that I don’t seem too lame. … Or old? Well thank you. I assure you, I am both. But thank you.
[Barkeeper - VA #2]
Here you go, sir.
[To the barkeeper]
Thank you.
[Speaker to the woman]
What do I do if I’m not going out much? (blows raspberry, unsure how to impress her, decides to go with honesty) Well, to be honest, I’ve never been much of the going out type. But I definitely used to make it out more than I do now.
(thinking) But I, um, I definitely work quite a bit. I own a small business here in town, and that takes up a fair amount of time. I’m pretty hands on. At first it was because I needed to be, now I just can’t help myself, I guess. (small chuckle)
I, um, like to run. You know, good for my mental health. Physical health too, obviously, you know, cardio. It’s important.
I have a small garden, so you know, that’s a thing that I started doing a few years ago... (trailing off a bit, a little afraid that you’re being too boring)
And I like to read. But don’t worry, I balance that out with some absolute garbage TV. (small chuckle)
...
Oh nooo, the garbage TV is what you want to know more about?
(deeply embarrassed now, but going to answer) Oh, sheesh, ok. I have watched quite a few hours of various Housewives over the years. Annnd (thinking) … Oh yes, and that one too.
(desperately trying to change the subject) Did I mention I read? I do. (mock serious) I read really, really smart books. The smartest. Very serious. Very thick books.
…(she’s mentioned another “garbage TV show”)...
Oh my god, that one isn’t garbage though! It’s absolutely brilliant. (laughing)
What about you? What do you do when you’re not here…once a year…
(listening but also a little distracted) Yeah? … mmm … uh-huh … uh-huh …
(you’re caught) No, no, I’m sorry! I am absolutely listening! I am. (sincere and seductive) But you are…you are absolutely stunning.
(deeply genuine and enamored) No, no, I mean it. Your eyes are just gorgeous. And your hair is just… (trails off, in awe, looking her over)
(so hot for her) And that dress…
(snaps out of it)(sheepishly) I’m sorry. Sorry, I am being very, very forward, aren’t I?
…
You don’t mind? Well, good. (smiling and very flirtatious) Because I don’t mind telling you that you’re the most beautiful woman in this whole place.
That just sounds like a line again, doesn’t it? It’s not. (little laugh)
(deeply genuine) It’s not.
…
You were saying though, you paint. That’s incredible. I don’t have an ounce of artistic ability in my whole body. I guess, I just have to be amazed by those who do.
…
Yeah, I know that area well, actually, I used to live in that neighborhood. I’m actually still down there a lot, there’s a little coffee shop, on Broadway … yup, that one … I go there a lot.
…
Yep, I know the gallery next door. … That’s yours!
(in awe) I’ve actually been in there several times!
(amazed and impressed) And that’s yours? … Those are your paintings. Wow. Now I'm definitely amazed.
(pointed and sincere) You’re an incomparable artist. And the gallery is a really wonderful and warm space, it makes me really happy every time I’m there.
(falling hard) And that’s yours? Huh.
…
(falling hard) What else? I want to know more.
… (She says something like “And I love to travel. But doesn’t everyone, right?”) …
No, no. Not everyone loves to travel. I think some people are very content to stay right where they are. And, I think traveling and vacationing are different.
…
(a bit flustered) Oh, I’m not exactly sure. It was kind of an off the cuff thought. I guess I think traveling is for exploring, and vacationing is for relaxing. (back pedalling) I dunno, maybe they can be the same. … Ok, ok, you understand what I mean then. ... So you love to travel. Me too.
…
What’s your favorite place you’ve traveled to?
…
Me too, actually! I love that city! (whistfully) The museums. The cafe culture. Wandering the streets. … Yes, and the pastries, of course. …
So when you travel … (a little nervous to ask, this could solidify her relationship status) Do you, ah, go on your own, like a solo travel thing? Or with someone special maybe? Or?...
…
Oh, your best friend? (happy and deeply satisfied with that answer) Hmm. That probably makes it extra special then. (smiling)(she is too)
…
(flirty and seductive) Your smile. Your smile is…it’s so natural. (maybe a little jealous, but also completely enamored) So easy and effortless. It’s beautiful.
(melting) It makes me smile. You make me smile.
(a bit shy now) God, am I blushing? I really am never this forward.
(earnestly) But I think you make me feel comfortable. Which, let me tell you, is saying something. (small laugh) I’ve spent most of my life feeling deeply anxious and horribly uncomfortable. Less so, as I’ve gotten older. … Yes. Running helps.
(so much gratitude) But I also have a wonderful, patient, and supportive family. That helps.
(matter of factly) And therapy. Therapy really helps. … You know, I have heard that actually, therapy is sexy.
… (She compliments your outfit)...
(proud) Oh, thank you. I’ve always loved this jacket.
(sheepishly) But can I tell you, it felt a bit tighter than I would’ve liked when I put it on this evening.
… (She compliments YOU)...
Oh, well now I’m definitely blushing.
…
Can I get you another glass of wine? … Ok. It is getting late, I suppose.
But I don’t want the night to end.
(absolutely smitten and hopeful) This isn’t just me, right? This is something special, right?
…
Can I, can I kiss you?
(Kissing. So much kissing.)
(softly, a little kiss drunk and flirty) Do you wanna get out of here? (Giddy giggle)
[Speaker to the barkeeper]
(louder, for the barkeeper to hear) Hey, George, when you get a second, can we settle our tab?
[Barkeeper - VA #2 to Speakeer]
Sure thing, sir.
[Speaker to the woman/YOUR WIFE!]
(a little cocky) Sooo, I convinced you to fall for me again. Like I did all those years ago. (shyly) I can’t believe I still get so nervous flirting with you though. (little laugh)
…
(sweetly) That was really fun. I could stay here all night and pretend to get to know you and fall in love with you all over again. (with a sigh) But I know we actually need to get going.
We did tell the babysitter we’d be home by 11. Do you think they’re still up? They better not be. … Yeah, probably. …
Oh, and I have an early food delivery at the coffee shop in the morning. … I know, I know, but I kinda like being there first thing in the morning still. … 6 a.m. The gallery opens at 11, right?
[Barkeeper - VA #2 to Speaker]
I have your check all ready for you, I knew you’d have to head out soon to get home to your girls.
[Speaker to the barkeeper]
Oh, great, thank you. I’ll take that.
[Barkeeper - VA #2 to Both]
I hope you two have enjoyed your special evening. What year are you celebrating?
[Speaker to the barkeeper]
We have. This year is 19. (proudly) And next year will be 20.
[Barkeeper - VA #2 to Both]
Congratulations! We love that you celebrate here with us each year. Will we see you for your 20th?
[Speaker to the barkeeper]
Absolutely! We’ll see you then, if not before.
[Barkeeper - VA #2 to Both]
(warm but knowing) We’ll see you next year then.
[Speaker to the barkeeper]
(realistically) I know, I know, it’s never before, is it? (small laugh) Thanks for everything, George.
[Barkeeper - VA #2 to Both]
Thank you. Congratulations again to you both, and have a wonderful evening.
[Speaker to your wife]
Do you want to wait here, and I’ll bring the car around? … Maybe text the babysitter that we’re on the way home? … Ok. I’ll see you outside in 5.
…
(return to a slower, flirty tone) Hey (sincerely, gratefully, lovingly) Thank you for choosing me then. And thank you for continuing to choose me now. Happy Anniversary, baby. I love you.

Author’s note: Hopefully it’s all very obvious by the end, but this is not a first chance meeting at all. The speaker has gone to the restroom and when they come back, decides to try to “pick up” their wife. She’s fun and plays along. It ends up being an exercise in falling in love all over again, complimenting each other, and reminiscing.
Every year, for their anniversary, they eat dinner at the restaurant next door, then come to this bar. George, the barkeeper, has worked there nearly as long as they’ve been coming in. The speaker owns a coffee shop and the listener owns the art gallery next door, both in the neighborhood they used to live in. They watch garbage TV together, travel together, and when the speaker talks about having a wonderful family, they’re talking about the family they have together. (Their kids are at home with the babysitter.) They’re best friends and very in love, and I’m betting they always will be.
The twist of this being a couple should only be revealed at the end. Which means labeling this audio as Strangers to More?, Established Relationship, etc could confuse or ruin the twist. Buuuut, you do you. ;)
Added Author’s Note: August 2026. The script was updated with a second speaking part (George the barkeeper) and the ending re-written a little. Both for the sake of clarity of the little twist at the ending. If you still have a copy of the original script and like it better, by all means, record that one. I still like it too.
