Thinking about moving to Denpasar for a few years… would you do it?

Hi everyone!

I’m from Spain and I’ve been offered a job teaching Spanish at a university in Denpasar. My other option is Jakarta, and I’m having a really hard time deciding.

At first I was completely sold on Bali, but then I started wondering what it’s actually like to live there long term, not just visit.

If everything goes well, I’d stay for a few years, so what matters most to me is building a life, making friends, having things to do outside work and feeling settled.

One thing I’m a bit worried about is that a lot of foreigners in Bali seem to come and go quite quickly. Is it easy to make genuine, long-term friendships, or does it feel like people are always leaving?

For those of you who live in Bali (especially around Denpasar), what’s everyday life really like? What do you love about it? And what are the downsides that nobody tells you before moving?

I’d love to hear your honest opinions. Thanks! 😊

Bali (Denpasar) or Jakarta? I keep changing my mind 😅

Hi everyone!

I’m from Spain and I’m really excited because I’ve just been offered two jobs teaching Spanish at university in Indonesia. One is in Jakarta and the other is in Denpasar (Bali).

A few weeks ago I was 100% sure I’d choose Bali… but now I keep changing my mind.

I’m not moving for a few months or just for the experience. If everything goes well, I’d like to stay for a few years, so I’m thinking about where I’d actually enjoy building a life.

One thing I’m a bit worried about is making friends. Bali looks amazing, but I wonder if a lot of foreigners are just passing through. I’d love to have a stable group of friends instead of constantly meeting people who leave after a few weeks or months.

Jakarta makes me think of a bigger city, more culture, more events, more food, and maybe a more settled expat community… but then everyone warns me about the traffic 😅.

If you were in my position, which one would you choose and why?

I’d especially love to hear from people who’ve actually lived in either place. What surprised you the most? What do you wish you’d known before moving?

Thanks! 😊

Incomplete Route Map but Correct Distance? 🤔🏃

Hey everyone 👋

I’ve noticed something weird when I go running with my Xiaomi band. During the workout, the GPS/location sometimes disconnects and reconnects randomly. Then, when I finish and check the workout summary, the route map looks incomplete and parts of the run are missing 🥲

My question is: even if the map is incomplete, is the distance tracking still accurate? Or does the GPS issue also affect the total distance shown?

Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks in advance 🙏

Mi cartera FIRE a los 30 y pico: ¿qué cambiaríais?

Buenas!

Os comparto mi cartera por si veis algo que cambiaríais o mejoraríais de cara al largo plazo/FIRE. La he ido haciendo según lo que he ido leyendo aquí pero me gustaría si alguien puede aportar algo.

Ahora mismo tengo:

10k en un monetario (Groupama Trésorerie IC) como colchón para imprevistos.

~50k invertidos: 80% Fidelity MSCI World y 20% Emerging Markets

~35k en el PP indexado global de MyInvestor.

Otros datos:

Trabajo fijo (90k brutos)

Mil gracias!!
