looking for cool spots in sheffield?

my friend and i are visiting for the first time next month, just there for a day trip. we're both 19, into music (disco, electronic, funk, britpop), vinyls & cds, dancing, good cider, vintage fashion, having a wander around, and just anything that's cool. i like to take digicam pics and i'm hoping the weather will be nice. if you know anywhere it sounds like we'd like please let me know!

How do I quit?

I’m currently a cleaner at my local spoons but I’ll be going back to university soon. I know that Wetherspoon offer transfers but there aren’t any job openings for cleaners at the one in my uni city. Also, this job is kind of destroying my body, I ache like hell every day, so I think that stopping in a month or so’s time is probably a good idea haha. It sucks that if I quit I probably won’t be able to get a job at Wetherspoon again because it is the best job I’ve had so far in terms of how employees are treated though.

My question is… how/where do i hand in a notice when the time comes? I literally do not know who my manager is. Every day I work with just 3-5 other cleaners who have the same job title as me. Can I just send it to any of the pub managers? If so how do I do this, since I can’t open a chat on myjdw? is there an email address?

unpaid time off

unsure how to go about this - i just started working at spoons and i want 4 days off, myjdw won't let me request the time off because it's not in one pay period. i want the time off to go to a festival and a family member's graduation. i'm on a 10 hour contract as it is so i don't know what the situation is here. I have already been scheduled to work on the 11th and 12th, but the following week is not yet scheduled. what can i do?

edit: just gonna take the hit and accept i won’t be able to make it to these things, it’s a life lesson i guess! plus turns out i cannot afford the trains to these things anyway. sucks but oh well.

regretting accepting a job offer

i accepted an offer for a temporary summer job but the hours and pay are a lot less than i was expecting, however stacked up with another job i have (which is a permanent contract) id have to do long 10-12 hour days which i think will be too much for me. what are the implications of emailing the hiring manager and withdrawing my acceptance? is this something i can even do? i already sent them my passport and completed the right to work check, but my start date isn’t until august. any help appreciated as i am completely clueless about this kind of thing.

cleaner interview

i’ve just been told i have an interview to be a cleaner (6am-8am shift) tomorrow, what sort of thing should i expect? the email said the interview would be 30-40 mins but this feels way too long to me, is that right? also, how quick is the onboarding process and how likely am i to get the job? i have hospitality experience, and also other jobs that required cleaning bits and bobs (like animal rescue, receptionist). thanks!

Is removing my University from my CV the move?

Heya, I'm a UK uni student looking for a summer job with absolutely no luck so far, not even seasonal jobs. I'm starting to think removing my degree off my CV is a good idea, so employers won't realise I'll have to go back to my uni and thus not be actively working for them in a few months. Is this disingenuous or do you think it might actually help? I have relevant work experience to everywhere I've applied to (ie. hospitality and customer-facing roles, and seasonal receptionist/administrative work), but continuously either get ghosted or rejected. Not quite sure what to do.

Ways to spend these sunny days?

I’m a student in York and all my friends have either already moved out for the summer or are really busy with exams and so can’t hang out with me. I don’t want to waste these lovely summery days stuck in my room in uni halls but I just don’t know what to do. Any recommendations of stuff I can do to keep myself occupied? It feels like a shame to just stay indoors.
