r/Wetherspoons

There have two options in wetherspoon toilets.

For some reason the Weatherspoons toilets in my area are like a soundproof booth, completely silent, every noise is amplified to the utmost extent. So when you're in there taking a shit and there's someone next to you, every sound is magnified. In the beginning you would try to be silent but then I gave up: Why am I suffering when the person next to me has accepted the way things are? They are grunting, blowing their noses. I'm hearing the dunking of each drop. Loudly rolling the tissue, wiping, groaning in satisfaction. So from now on that's what I do. I do not care. I'll even look them in the eye as I'm washing and drying my hands,, slam the door open, and look in the mirror, which always makes you look good. Walk out and then act civilized again because I'm no longer a caveman.

Scared ill fail probation ( 12 week)

My 12-week probation at spoons is due at the end of the month, and I'm scared.

Please tell me if im being silly.

At my 6 week probation, I passed all the sections other than " attitude," where I was told to improve my attitude on potwash and go at a faster speed. Also, to improve on all stations, which I guess is a general thing.

Since then, I've not complained about being on pots at all, and I think I've picked up the speed quite a bit.

I was on pots close a few days ago, and I got through them quite well, though I was given corrections on a few things. I also cleaned the dishwasher but had to be corrected for missing a few spots.

I've improved on all stations, including cookline/mainline, but I'm rarely on cookline, so I'm not 100% on burgers, but I'm more or less 100% confident on saladette.

I've had to be reminded to do training twice, but it's never run late.

Obviously, I can't know everything, and I've had corrections on all stations, and I'm trying my best to keep up.

I'm fast on saladatte ( fairly)

One thing I need to improve on, though, is getting distracted when talking, which I'm trying to improve on.

But yeah, I'm just scared. I'll fail the job market is awful at the moment, and I'm actually starting to like it here.

Also, a shift leader messaged me on Facebook, saying how great I did today so I guess that's something :)

Creepy Bar staff

I was at a rave Music festival in Glasgow over the weekend and we thought the Spoons nearby beforehand would be the perfect pre’s (cheap drink and right beside the venue). Pub was fairly busy but plenty of staff on.

The Male manager (I presume a manager , was wearing a shirt and camera) made very rude and creepy comments about what me and my friends were wearing as he passed the table , and at the bar talking to other employees. (Basically said “girls shouldn’t be allowed out the house with no clothes on and everything showing but I can’t stop looking”)

What’s the best course of action to go about reporting this to the company ? Obviously it’s our word against his but it made our full group really uncomfortable as we are all teenage girls and he was a middle aged man making creepy comments towards us

Wetherspoons payslip

I previously worked at wetherspoons for a month a few months back and to do the pre-employment checks for my new job I have to write down the employer exactly as it appears on the payslip. Stupidly I never saved any from the app when I could. I'm just wondering how is it written on the payslip? Google says JD Wetherspoon PLC, so just checking if this is correct

Is it worth or allowed asking to wear earphones as a cleaner?

I've been working as a morning cleaner for the past week. I'm autistic and this is my first job in over a year, I don't have a lot of work experience and am very socially awkward and uncomfortable. I find myself completing tasks just fine but I feel pressured by other cleaners to get stuff done by a certain time and in a certain way. I've been feeling easily overwhelmed and feel like listening to music while working would help ease my mind and help me stay calm. I work 7-9 in the morning and am aware that customers come in when we open from 8am but I don't have much experience in asking for accommodations like this and I don't want to burden anybody. I already feel like I'm not doing the job good enough based on how some cleaners are with me sometimes. Just wondering if there were any autistic employees who have asked for certain accommodations, thank you!

Has anyone experienced this with a sausage?

I found this thin, clear layer around a sausage after taking a bite, it’s the vegan breakfast. I was told it was caused by the grill/egg, but it looked like plastic to me.

Does anyone know what this could actually be?

Most bizarre incident in your pub?

I was out with a friend I used to work with last night and we were sharing all the weird incidents that happened in our pub. One of them was when a hen party came into the pub, all dressed as princesses. Snow White and Princess Fiona got in a disagreement near the bar that ended with Snow White getting Fiona in a headlock, while Belle from Beauty and the Beast screamed at them to stop. Mulan, Cinderella and Jasmine missed all the action because they were chain smoking in the beer garden.

Share your weird incidents!

could i change the number of hours i work

got an interview for kitchen staff coming up and the role i applied for was contracted 12hrs. i was okay with this tbh but then i checked the job openings again for that same pub and saw there was an extra one for the same role but for 24hrs, obviously i didnt see that when i sent in my application lol.
would it be possible to discuss this with the manager on the interview day that i’d like to switch to 24hrs (if i were to get the job ofc) i’ve recently graduated uni and dont have anything else to do so i wanna get out the house as much as possible while i figure out what to do with my life. if not then im still happy with 12hrs but was just wondering anyway.
thanks in advance!

Boozer based artwork

My artwork's based around everyday life, encounters, stories etc. A lot of it centred round the environment of the boozer. I scrolled through my website i pulled out these, that i remember were based on encounters in Wetherspoons.

Hat hunt

So I was lucky and bagged a spoons bucket hat. Loved the idea of donating to charity and getting a hat with the plate pattern.

Unfortunately I lost it last week at a festival and I'm gutted. No luck tracking it down and I've visited multiple spoons since and had no luck finding a replacement.

I'm wondering if there is anyone here who has one and the novelty has worn off. I'll pay face value, or alternatively show proof of donation directly to the charity plus postage fees.

Willing to show proof of ownership of the hat with selfies at the events I did attend with it.

Coors 4% at Spoons?

So, we all know that Coors changed from 4% to 3.4% some time ago to save on tax.

It seems that they still have it in original 4%? Is it actually true and if so, how?

What are some essentials you can’t live without for work?

Looking for some things that are handy to have to make shifts a bit easier, even if it’s a small amount. And also how to look semi decent while working there, with the uniform policy 😭

What do you order when you’re bored of your usual Spoons meal?

I always end up ordering the same thing at Spoons, even when I tell myself I’ll try something different. Looking for a few solid options that are actually worth switching it up for.

The Counting House Glasgow - Loch Lomond Brewery Event

The ale champion for the pub has organised a Loch Lomond Brewery tap takeover and meet the brewery team event this coming Wednesday 19th August at 5:30pm.

There will also be a number of craft cans from the brewery to sample and enjoy alongside the 6 ales in the cellar.

The pub has reached out to us at CAMRA Glasgow and West Of Scotland branch to make this a branch social which we have kindly accepted.

We happily welcome everyone down for this.

See you at the bar 🍺
