Girl who I work with has been here twice as long as me and knows next to nothing.

I've been at wetherspoons as kitchen staff for a month this week and there's a girl who I work with who's been here 2 months ( atleast that's what she's told me) and she dosent know much to say the least.

She was on shift with her yesterday during Saturday rush, and she didn't know:

. How to make some pizzas/what check she was on and had to ask for help several times.

. I asked her to plate up a tika masala, and she didn't know how or where to find the stuff for it.

. Didn't know the toppings for the jackets. She knew the side salad for them, though.

. Didn't know how to do wraps

I mean, I'm not 100% confident yet, I sometimes ask questions to do with the spec and maybe and maybe I'm being a bit judgemental or maybe I've just picked up quick, but surely she should know these things by now?

It was so stressful because she was asking me questions about the pizzas, and she's been here twice as long as me!

Should I talk to the kitchen manager about this or is it none of my business?

Can I use the staff discount multiple times in one visit?

I recently got employed and from what I understand, I can use the staff discount for myself and 3 other people

Say for example if I'm out with two other people and we're doing round, would I be able to buy multiple rounds without getting in trouble?

Holiday pay

Has anyone else had any issues with holiday since April not being paid as you haven’t “accrued” any. My old pub used to put us in the minuses and then we would work out of them. My new pub had refused holiday pay since April even after approving the holiday request meaning I have gone weeks without holiday pay. Is this a new thing or are my pub doing this differently?

Second time I have had this mystical cup now

This isn't the white spoons cup, I can't see any others out and about. What's the deal?

Son’s done us proud

Our lad’s away on his year nine trip and just sent us this picture of his pint of orange juice at the Heathrow ‘spoons.

So proud we taught him how to start a holiday properly

missed probation meeting?

i’ve been working at Wetherspoons two months now, and it’s going alright. it’s not the best job in the world but it’ll do. there’s still a lot of room for improvement and things i still need to do for the first time (no closing shifts for example).

i still haven’t had my 6 week probation meeting and i’m well over 8 weeks into the job now and it’s quite hard to improve when i don’t know what i need to be improving on. i’m also aware that three of the other new starters that started either on the same day or around me have had their probation meetings and i seem to be the only one without?

i was wondering if it’s normal for probation meetings to be missed and if it’s worth bringing up to a manager?

Break Policy

I've been at this company for nearly 4 years and just got promoted to SL over a month ago and I'm pretty sure if you work over 8 hours you're entitled to a 45 minute break. I've read the policy and it says "shift leaders 18 and over ; 8 hours 30 minutes over 8 and up to 10 - 45 minutes. I got asked last week to clock in early because they were busy and it was about half an hour before my 8 hour shift so I'd get a 45 minute break? At least I thought I did when another shift leader (the one who asked me to clock in early) said no you can't have an extra 15. I know our breaks are fully paid from SL and up but it's not the point I would have liked to of had the extra time to rest and sit outside as it was when England played and it was horrendous.

How do I quit?

I’m currently a cleaner at my local spoons but I’ll be going back to university soon. I know that Wetherspoon offer transfers but there aren’t any job openings for cleaners at the one in my uni city. Also, this job is kind of destroying my body, I ache like hell every day, so I think that stopping in a month or so’s time is probably a good idea haha. It sucks that if I quit I probably won’t be able to get a job at Wetherspoon again because it is the best job I’ve had so far in terms of how employees are treated though.

My question is… how/where do i hand in a notice when the time comes? I literally do not know who my manager is. Every day I work with just 3-5 other cleaners who have the same job title as me. Can I just send it to any of the pub managers? If so how do I do this, since I can’t open a chat on myjdw? is there an email address?

Are any competitors out there to wetherspoons in terms of of Value to Money?

i have been frequent visitor of weatherspoon chains. I’m watch almost all the day and evening matches at spoons and just want to know if there are any alternatives to the spoons which offer beers almost at same prices? As the spoons at Oxford becomes too much crowded when there is match of England.

Got charged twice

I went to wetherspoons on Tuesday and ordered food on the website. The first time I tried I got an error message saying my order hadn't gone through. The second time the order was successful and I got an email confirming this. I checked my banking app at the time and had 2 transactions pending but I assumed only one would go through. However I just checked my banking app again today and both transactions are no longer pending but are instead completed transactions and I've been charged twice.

I've been googling what I should do now and I've seen some people saying that the failed order will automatically refund after a few days, but since mine is no longer listed as pending would that still be the case for me? I was going to wait until Monday to see if I get my money refunded automatically and then contact them if I don't but would it be better to contact them ASAP instead so I can get it sorted sooner? Not sure what to do really, has anyone else had this issue?

Has anyone else got a second job after being fully available/flexible?

I'm on a 20-hour contract, and I'm fully flexible on the days I can work.

I've been building up my own business on the side of my shifts since I'm only part-time. i usually have 2-3 days off during the week, so I get to see clients on these days off.

I usually get 20-24 hours a week, plus a bit of extra money from my side business, but I want to make it into my full-time career eventually.

I was thinking of changing my availability where I'm unavailable Monday or Tuesday ( quieter day in hospitality), so I have a set day off to guarantee clients.

I'm still in my 13 week probation, but I was thinking after it's over, will I be able to request this?

Has anyone else experienced something similar? I've read my contract, and it says if I gain any other employment, I must let them know so I can change my availability, so I'm assuming it should be okay?

Pub managers cutting hours at late notice without notifying anyone

The employee promise is that we get shifts 3 weeks in advance and any changes are agreed on, but in my pub almost all associates are having their hours cut after the rotas are published, often just a couple of hours before the shift was due to start. Several team leaders have had their shifts cancelled whilst on the way to work and all associates and team leaders are in a position where we know a 40 hour work week rota will end up becoming a 30 hour week at the last minut, without anyone being consulted, just a notification on myjdw saying our rota is changed. Anyone else going through this?

Employee discount

I started work here about three weeks ago and me and my family decided to come here for lunch. I paid one order for me and three other family members with my discount. Then after that I did another with my younger nephew, I didn’t know how to remove the discount so it paid for him as well. Now I’m worried that I’m going to get in trouble for it, will I actually get in trouble? What should I do as I’d hate for this to bite me in the ass.

First week working the floor and bar. Would like to thank everyone for there patience.

It was my first week working both on the floor and bar this week. I found the floor easy but the bar was genuinely tough. I had so much trouble remembering where everything was including all the drinks and when somebody ordered something brand new I didn't have a scooby 😭.

But regardless I want to thank everyone in any pub who's been patient with a new member of staff. That includes workers too. I can only imagine the grief that I may have caused people behind the bar. And it wasn't even busy. I can only imagine it's worse when it is. If you've ever had to shadow someone behind the bar or on the floor. I want you to know that I appreciate what you do. And your patience haha.
