Kitchen TL, do you always get all your breaks?

Ive done 3 shifts this week so far and worked through 45min of unpaid breaks. I expect another 15 or 30 by end of the week.

Im sick of this being expected now. I've noticed the bar TL always get theres (which obviously dont have issue with, they should be, just noticing the diffrence).

Cities with the worst selection of Spoons

There’s been some chat lately about the best/most impressive Spoons in the country but I wonder where has the worst Spoons options?

I’m going to start by saying York. Two Spoons, one is like drinking in an aircraft hangar. A modern, new build thing with no character. The other is a really neglected old nondescript building with a weird layout.

Both do a roaring trade but in a city of so many great buildings, I’m always disappointed with both of the Spoons. Especially when compared to some of the amazing ones I’ve visited elsewhere.

Also, to be clear, I’m talking about worst as in architecture, vibe etc… not knocking the staff/food or bevs. which have always been decent enough.

Is this supposed to be a bargain?

This is the most expensive I’ve seen this meal before. A few pounds more and you could be in The Ivy. The Mardi Gras, Trafford Centre, Manchester.

Requesting a guest ale

I've seen this advertised in several of my locals, but some staff don't know about it and I've struggled to find much about it online. How does this work? I believe there's a list of approved breweries I can request from that the reL ale manager can get easily, how do I find that? And more importantly, is Abbeydale Brewery on it?

Thanks for your help 😃

Shift leader back to associate

Hey guys, I’ve been a shift leader for 2 months now, and I’m not enjoying it whatsoever. My personal circumstances have changed, and as a single parent I’ve no other help. I need to have a conversation with my pub manager about going back to an associate. Does anyone have any tips on how to go about this and any advice?

What witchcraft has allowed spoons to negate the cost of living crisis?

The price of some of these pints is genuinely cheaper than Aldi.

How do they do this?

Can I take my own soya milk in for the coffee?

I like my coffee with a lot of soya milk, and I tend to use too many oat sachets (and I don’t like oat anyway) . Can I take my own alpro soya in? Will it get me thrown out?

Sliced Chillies vs Jalapeños

Thoughts on sliced chillies on the menu. How do people enjoy them? Do you like just a couple of loads of maybe you can't stand the heat of them?

Would you prefer spoons offered Jalapeños?

I like the wetness of jalapeños in the brine and the bite better to the red sliced chillies. Also the brine gives the spicy taste a different mouthfeel compared to other spicy things IMO.

Would you prefer a menu swap or don't care are indifferent?

Just wanting to see the chat on this one.

CQSMA scores plummeting

A few months back my pub consistently had scores over 95%. We were always in the top 3 (most of the time the top spot) for the pubs in our area. now were consistently the second to last spot in the area. With the monthly score at around 80%.
This of course means no bonuses for any of the staff which is a pretty big part of working for the company.

The hour cuts are so atrocious and it really shows in the scores. The managers are consistently cutting 2/3 shifts each day, so of course the place is constantly a mess, the kitchen is understaffed and the bar can’t get the drinks out in the correct timeframes.

I feel like the morale in my pub is nonexistent because we all know that we can’t really hit the targets anymore and keep the place well maintained with so little staff. And the lack of bonuses/benefits just makes it feel even less necessary to try.

Team leaders have been dropping like flies every other week…

any other pubs feeling the changes?

Is this the new standard for mushrooms? 🥲

Salt sachet for reference, used to be two decent sized flat mushrooms served with the breakfasts, now they're comical in size.

I'm a new hire and it's been almost a week and they still haven't given me any shifts?

Hiii I recently got hired at wetherspoons and had my induction last thursday. I was told to complete my induction part 2 which I did the same day. My manager already told me i'd probably get shifts the coming week, however it's already tuesday and I still have nothing. I sent an email yesterday afternoon and i'm still waiting for a response. I really don't like calling because it stresses me out BUT i really need those shifts as im going on holiday at the end of next week.

Can someone please tell me if this is normal or like what's going on???

One of the worst rotas I’ve had

This week I’m on an open today, then I have the following shifts:
17:30-01:30
14:00-20:00
10:30-18:30
06:30-14:30

Anyone else got any rota horror stories?

REFERENCE CHECKS

Hi everyone! I have a question for any current/ex employees (especially hiring managers)

I worked at my last job for a few years, then management changed and eventually I left due to differences in opinion. I thought things were okay but they’ve since given me a negative reference since just to be spiteful. The new manager had an incredibly difficult personality to work with. So, if I apply at any Wetherspoons but don’t have a reference for my last place of employment will that deter them from hiring me? I do really need a job.
I’ve only worked at this place for multiple years so if I remove it from my CV it looks like I have no experience and I’m in my mid to late 20s, so it looks odd.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

The Wetherspoons BrewDog up for sale.

There is a rather unusual anomaly on the Wetherspoons 'up for sale' site, a former BrewDog pub!

Anyone who has been to Milton Keynes will know there are two Spoons in the City. However, it once used to have four.

The existing Spoons are:

- 'Wetherspoons' on Midsummer Boulevard - half way between the Station and the Shopping Centre.

- 'The Moon Under Water' at the Xcape complex.

However, one that used to exist was on the opposite side of the road and a bit further up the road than the existing 'Wetherspoons' on Midsummer Boulevard.

This pub was a Lloyd's No1 called 'The Secklow Hundred' and closed around 2017.

After it was closed down, it was acquired by BrewDog. What I did not know was that Spoons still held the freehold on this site - despite it not being a Spoons for many years.

The other Spoons that used to exist was a 'Lloyd's No1 Cafe Bar' (how posh! 😂) which was later renamed 'The David Garrick'. This was situated around the 'Theatre District' of Milton Keynes City Centre, and is now the 'Rumble Rooms' Sports Pub (last picture).
