Can we put to rest that Wetherspoons only gets short dated cask ale?

I'm wanting to dispel that rumour for the benefit of myself and the negativity that Wetherspoons gets from some CAMRA members.

I'd expect the cask sold to have a normal use by date.

Looking on the Wetherspoons app at ales available I'm seeing what is on at all of the Lanarkshire based pubs and nothing is grabbing my attention or holding my interest to want to visit.

Looking at Glasgow and some of the pubs are doing a pretty good lineup.

One pub that is standing out is The Kirky Puffer but it's CAMRA Dunbartonshire Pub Of The Year and is also separately available on Real Ale Finder App for updates.

I wish my own local saw what The Kirky Puffer does and just replicates the lineup.

Apparently Brewdog are looking to close the Merchant City bar to move to a location in the city centre that has a lower rent.

They said the rent for the prime corner location in the heart of Merchant City is too expensive.

I'm unsure where else they can set up shop?

Haven't ordered a vegan burger in like forever. The option just isn't worth it for the money. It's not substantial enough of a meal compared with the carnivore options.

Suggestion for Wetherspoons to have a plant based bacon option to pad out the meal to give some extra protein.

Wetherspoons competition Greene King offers a much larger vegan burger with more protein on the lunch menu with a drink. Same for Stonegate Pubs with the lunch offer you actually get a double vegan smash patty with vegan bacon and a drink in my nearest city centre location for £8.50.

Noticed for the first time when seeing a pub a few towns over that it's now doing Monday to Wednesday alcohol offers and it isn't just the real ale Monday to Wednesday offer.

Is this because I'm in Scotland and you can't do a Monday club because of the 72 hours drinks promotion rule?

Is this also because it's a poorer performing pub sales wise it needs to do this or is the town a lower market area so gets this deal?

It seems a bargain for a £6 pitcher and a £2.49 Tennents.

So as an OG Punks member I did kinda expect to see my Treats account update with the free drinks for the promo ahead of tomorrow before I visit the bar of my choosing.

It's not very clear how the tab will actually work. Is it going to be 2 free pints per day until the tab runs out or is it going to be sporadically spread out?

Was just wondering if you could use it more than once tomorrow as in one redemption per visit to the bar?

So another day another visit to my local Wetherspoons.

It's breakfast. I'm eating my own breakfast.

I clock two women eating breakfast. Fine. Then in come two friends and a baby in a pram. The two pals come to sit with them in the booth. The two women proceed to bring out their Greggs bags and a can each of Red Bull. A 3rd woman appears stands near the booth (it's obvious she knows the women as they appear friendly in conversation) but floats around the other tables talking to people she knows but never buys anything.

The two females that bought breakfast have got up to leave and the two women that were eating Greggs are now solely occupying the booth. The other woman who hasn't brought Greggs in or anything on the premises goes to sit with them. They occupy the booth for about 20 minutes and leave.

I just don't know why this gets entertained?

I live in a town with the largest undercover town centre in Scotland. There is no real public communal area for people to gather to sit and chat.

There are two small benches nearby which are a magnet for elderly people to have a rest when out at the shops.

It seems people treat Wetherspoons as a communal gathering area with people not being customers.

As a customer it does bother me as you need to be protecting the value of your paying customers that come in.

I worked in customer service for a well known retailer for 14 years and I had to be strict with things so as to not influence customers behaviour. If we allowed something for one customer word would spread and people would expect the same treatment. We had to respect the full paying customers who were making us the sales and making us hit sales targets and potentially extra bonus payments.

I just wish my local Wetherspoons got this because it's not fair to the table nearby who spend £24 on breakfasts to have the example illustrated above continue to happen.

With the town centre redevelopment plan other hospitality units are opening and a focal meeting point of a new civic square will arrive across now and September 2029.

Maybe in three years time the customer behaviour will change.

One of these new hospitality units has opened its small independent trendy cafe. However I don't see them entertaining people bringing in a Greggs. They are selling £6 avocado toast and £3.20 coffees. I don't think the clientele I've seen the last two days would be sitting there.

So I was sitting in my local Wetherspoons and I sat down and was enjoying my pint then I looked to my right and I saw a group of three women and two toddlers sitting eating a Greggs.

I honestly can't believe it.

The toddlers have sausage rolls. Two of the women are sitting with baguettes and you can see the drinks from Greggs.

Potentially it looked like one of the women may have had a jacket potato as there was one empty plate with baked potato remnants and a glass which looked like a wine.

I just don't know why the pub entertained it. There was staff floating around near them bringing app orders.

I just find it incredibly cheap and cheeky and a real massive brass neck.

My local Wetherspoons is one of the very few public meeting places in my town centre with seating.

My gut feeling is that these people didn't want to buy food in Wetherspoons but wanted to have somewhere to sit because of the two toddlers.

I was there for 40 minutes having my pint and the kids had tablet computers and toys out and the three women were all chatting away to themselves.

I just don't know why this is allowed or the staff let it happen? Surely only food and drink purchased in the pub may be consumed on the premises?

It devalues your customers who've spent more on food than those who went to Gregg's and weren't able to grab one of the limited benches within the undercover public space town centre of mine so decide to enter Wetherspoons to sit there for convenience and a blether.

I'd love to see my local function as a normal pub but it doesn't. It has a queue in place.

Can we just stop it?

How do we go about dismantling queueing and the customer behaviour?

Also I'd love to see the normal thing of standing at the bar having a chat with a pal with a drink. Don't need to go to sit at a table. I like standing at the bar like I'm at a proper old school pub.

Let's make Wetherspoons normal again.

Thoughts on sliced chillies on the menu. How do people enjoy them? Do you like just a couple of loads of maybe you can't stand the heat of them?

Would you prefer spoons offered Jalapeños?

I like the wetness of jalapeños in the brine and the bite better to the red sliced chillies. Also the brine gives the spicy taste a different mouthfeel compared to other spicy things IMO.

Would you prefer a menu swap or don't care are indifferent?

Just wanting to see the chat on this one.

Does anyone else look at other people getting a pizza sent to their respective table and then look at yours and saying "Gosh I wish my pizza was as good as theirs over there!"

It's not mine is poor quality and would deserve a remake it's just their pizza looks better and I want theirs instead! 🤣😭

Hi there. I found an ID for someone. It's a driver's licence.

I have found the person on social media but they aren't responding to my Facebook messages.

I read if I hand it to the cops they just punt it straight to the DVLA.

The person is young and I imagine they are someone who goes out who will need the ID for getting served.

Should I just wait it out for them to reply or should I post the ID to their home address? Somehow my gut has me thinking they are at uni staying in Glasgow. Their home address isn't in Glasgow.

Id hope posting it the persons parents would let them know their ID has been found.

Not sure what to do.
