I think I found a state standards hack?

Ok not a hack but something I found while researching for my online course that I think is genuinely useful if your kid is more into science than history…. 8 of 11 states name diseases or some sort of health history. (Black Death in TX FL NY CA GA MI TN, Columbian Exchange in TX FL NY OH GA MI TN, NY 10.9a literally asks students to investigate one infectious disease), and the 3 misses are skills-based frameworks covered by C3.

The exceptions are: PA requires 3 years social studies for home ed, NY requires 4 units.

I put all the research up on my page if you want to see more, but I thought it was cool!

Free “Pathogens 101” lesson

Hellloooo
I created a secular science course about the history of infectious disease. I taught this class live and realized that there were a lot of kids looking for something like this and it just didn’t exist.

Head to my site. Put in your email, and the link goes right to your inbox. It’s the full lesson, not a teaser or a frustrating cut off. 1 of 20 of the lessons that will be released on 8/31. While you’re there, check out the free game where you can make your own microbe on the games page!

Homeschooling, but not like that..

Anyone else in a deep red area choosing to homeschool to escape the MAGA crowd? I feel like it’s the opposite of what homeschooling used to be, but my kid is neurospicy and our rural schools are full on Christian National Training Centers so like… I gotta do what I gotta do, ya know?

Anyone using unschool for their neurodivergent kiddo?

My kid is a special mix of neurospicy that would make public school a disaster. I tried a more traditional approach to homeschooling last year as a test but the constant demand of a curriculum is not going to work either. Anyone else dealing with a PDA profile of autism that has any pointers? He’s only 5 so we still have time to figure outlining our system. Right now I’m just making making my own Minecraft style activities here and there but that’s not gonna work forever lol.

I made a secular homeschool curriculum because I have no chill.

Hi, I’m an infectious disease and public health nerd. I have my degree in public health but apparently that was not enough for my hyperfixation to be satisfied.

I taught a history of diseases and public health class in a co-op. It was a hit. I made more. Bigger hit.

So I decided to make it fancy, and set it up online for more middle grade and up kiddos to take. I just opened up a free sample lesson and I would love some feedback before I release the rest on August 31. There are presentation videos, activities, interactive games, and a recommended book list that is comical even to me.

ETA:there is more coming. The homepage has a roadmap. There will be 8 modules in total eventually. As well as a “for littles” version.
