Beta so...very...slow...

Huge fan of Raycast. But tried the beta for the first time yesterday. It was painfully slow on a 16GB Mac Mini M1. Anything I tried to do after triggering it took 2-4 seconds, sometimes even longer. I'm back on the original version and it is as fast as I'm used to. Haven't seen many other posts talking about speed -- did I miss them or am I alone in this?

Zumwalt ineffectiveness

I know some major league hitting coaches have a hitting philosophy. I imagine some focus more on studying pitcher tendencies, pitch recognition, mental and mechanical adjustments.

When a hitting coach never has to answer for how they do their job, we're left guessing. Should they get some of the credit or blame? Much of it? None of it? All players have habits, stances, routines at the plate, willingness to study pitchers (or not). These are things that got them to the MLB level and they're probably resistant to overhauls. And all players will slump, get hot, or just start the season one way or the other, with or without a hitting coach.

I'm not sure how much of this is on Zumwalt. Quatraro was a hitting coordinator for a few years too with the Rays. But 50 games into a season, you have to wonder what is even happening to counteract the prolonged failure. For most of an entire team to be infected, that is a signal that whatever they're doing -- it ain't working. Something more drastic has to change.

Voicenotes MCP + Craft MCP + Claude

I'm a relatively long-term Craft user. I only recently started using its MCP server with Claude. It's been really useful and eye-opening.

Every Monday, I create two new documents in Craft: A "Week of _______" for work and a "Week of _______" for personal use. I create them from templates I previously structured. In those documents I capture notes, thoughts, todos, and so on. My thinking has always been that I'll use Craft's AI assistant to find things when needed down the road.

A couple weeks back I started using Claude to create the new weekly documents from those templates, including updating the document titles, all with just a one-sentence prompt. No clicking around in Craft. It's been terrific.

I'm also a Voicenotes user for capturing on-the-go notes and recording meetings without a bot joining the call. Voicenotes transcribes and summarizes, like a lot of these types of apps. I've always wanted these two worlds to collide so all of my notes are in one place. Well, yesterday Voicenotes announced its own MCP server and wow...what a game-changer for me.

I'm now able to:

  • Create documents from templates via Claude/Craft as mentioned above
  • Record notes or meetings via Voicenotes with a single click on my Mac...which are then uploaded to Voicenotes, where they are summarized and transcribed
  • Tell Claude to grab that new summary and add it to a specific block in the Craft document

Because of Craft's block structure, Claude knows exactly how to do this and it hasn't failed me after doing this 10 different times over the last 24 hours. Maybe I'm easily wowed, but this is amazing to me.

I don't see this as advanced compared to what some people are doing. But the tedious and constant copying and pasting I had to do prior to these two MCPs existing was crazy.

Now, finally, Craft will handle all of my notes once I port my old ones over from Apple Notes...
