Smash Bros. Vs Fortnite arguments are dumb (Small rant)

Thanks to the whole Fortnite season its lead to a lot of arguments about Smash Vs Fortnite and which is the better crossover. Other than both being big crossovers, neither game is really comparable. Like, at all

Smash Bros has always been focused on Nintendo, with some guest fighters in the mix. some of those guest fighters are gaming icons yes, but overall there has always been a more Nintendo based focus.

Fortnite does whatever it wants and is not restricted to videogames.

Smash Bros, despite many complaints about its accuracy on certain characters, still aims to be faithful to the characters and their source material.

Every character in fortnite is a cosmetic.

Whilst fortnite is larger, Smash has more quality against over quantity. There's a reason Joker or Sora got more hype when added to Smash than for Fortnite

This isn't me hating on the Fortnite, but much like most arguments trying to pit video games against each other, these are lousy arguments.

Rather interesting theory. The four Stadium bosses chosen are all meant to correlate to the main plot of road trip in some way

Broke: Steve is overpowered so he should be banned. Woke: Steve is overpowered so we should create a legion of overpowereds that can overpower the overpowered

On one end. I enjoy Pac-Man for being very unique, having an interesting playstyle, and him being in the game at all. On the other I’m not a super big fan of how they did his moveset

Tbf Pac-Man’s moveset isnt nearly as bad as the Flicky down smash but still.

In universe, what exactly was Dark Meta Knight’s reason for doing this?

gameplay wise it’s simply used to explain how multiplayer exists. lore wise though what was Dark Meta Knight’s reason for splitting Kirby into four? was it to make him weaker like Necrodeus attempted later on? was it just a means of provoking Kirby to trick him into conflict with the real Meta Knight (hence DMK he disguises as him later)? or was there some other reason for doing so?

If Pokemon does continue to base new Smash Bros fighters on the newest games, I feel like it’d be one of the ZA ones rather than Meowscarada as many predict.

ZA are the newest games in the series and the three Kalos Z starters have been put at the forefront whereas they’re no longer advertising Scarlet and Violet as much. Theres also Wind and Waves soon, though i still see people say it’d be Meowscarada instead.

I feel like people view Mii fighter costumes, Spirits, and assist trophies as badges of shame or completely irrelevant over actual fighters when that’s not the case.

obviously, fighters are the top priority when it comes to characters. however, when a character happens to be an assist trophy, Mii costume or a spirit its just something to be mocked which feels wrong. Like, sure a highly requested character like Waluigi would be more praised as a playable character but he’s still, by definition, in the game. this applies to others like Shadow, Knuckles, Zero or Midna. Ultimate even opted to make assists feel more like fighters by allowing them to be K.Od whilst otherwise still being very powerful. this also applies to Pokeball Pokemon

Mii costumes are also good, as while the original character couldn’t become a fighter, you can still make a fairly accurate Mii and use them. it’s not the actual character but it’s the next best thing and the alternative would’ve been nothing at all

spirts are literally stated by Sakurai to be a way to enjoy characters other than as fighters. having multiple modes where you can use them and are one of the most heavily advertised new features. much like some of the aforementioned assist trophies, characters such as Eggman, Geno, or Rex still get a chance to shine being legendary spirits with battles.

i am not attempting to put fighters and assist trophies on the same level. but whilst fighters obviously make the game, assist trophies, and spirits help. the shovel knight, Cuphead and shantae devs happily celebrated their characters being an assist trophy and Mii costumes respectively yet many people just treat them as completely irrelevant or insulting because they’re not on the character select screen. if anything it’s also still good as it seems to increase their chances of being fully playable next game (See Charizard, Isabelle, Chrom, K.Rool, Ridley and Little Mac).

Is it ever explained what Mitsuo’s deal was again?

He kinda just shows up at the beginning has a dungeon and never appears again. I get that he’s meant to be a fake out for the true killer, but a lot feels kinda unexplained. he doesn’t accept or deny his shadow either. it just disappears and no one ever elaborates on that. he’s just wiped from existence as soon as his dungeon is over.

is there something I’m missing about him?

Very small nitpick about the Persona 5 spinoffs…

It’s not even a real issue and more-so a personal preference but… it still slightly bothers me that Royal gave every major character Phantom Thief much more expressive character portraits, and then spin offs just revert back to using base 5’s much more static ones.

Strikers makes a tad bit of sense as it was in development at the same time as Royal. Phantom X is way more jarring to not just use the way better Royal ones for the Crossroads of fate. Small nitpick but it was something that bothered me for a bit.

Whilst Ultimate did a good job, I hope we get an even bigger focus on series antagonists as newcomers in the next game

I have already explained why I think Kamek would be good.

King Boo is Luigi’s version of Bowser, and one of the more prominent antagonists outside of the Koopa Troop in the series, plus his moveset of summoning other ghosts and utilizing his various illusions like in his boss fights could be fun

whenever Ganondorf is given a new moveset people give his old one to Black Shadow. I’ve always found it much easier to give it to Demise as they come from the same franchise.

Marx would be good as Kirby’s antagonist as King Dedede doesn’t really qualify and is more akin to Donkey Kong (occasionally creates conflict, but more of an ally than an enemy) whilst Marx is still has more of a malicious mindset.

Eggman makes sense, however I believe it’d be nice if they parallel other guest series’s. The Ghosts, Wily, and Dracula would be interesting.

Black Knight would make for an interesting Super Heavyweight and is one of the more popular fire Emblem antagonists as of current. Grima could work as an alternative.

Porky got snubbed which is odd given he appeared as a major character in both Brawl and still made appearances in Smash 4, yet is absent in Ultimate. him being upgraded to a fully playable character could be nice

I don’t need a wishlist. I only desire two things

They did not need to be snubbed to awkward background cameos. kinda wish they were playable over Egg Pawn but they should absolutely be free update characters.
