Pero hanggang ngayon, pareho pa rin ang problema. Taon-taon, paulit-ulit ang baha, nasisira ang kabuhayan, at maraming pamilyang Pilipino ang patuloy na nagsa-suffer.

Mas masakit pa rito, ilang corruption cases na ang lumabas sa paglipas ng mga taon—ghost projects, overpriced contracts, at public funds na hindi umano napunta sa proyektong para sa taumbayan. May mga personalidad na naaresto, nasampahan ng kaso, o nahatulan kaugnay ng ganitong mga iskandalo. Sa halip na mapunta ang pondo sa maayos na drainage systems, flood control, at iba pang essential infrastructure, may mga kasong nagsasabing ang pera ng bayan ay nauwi sa personal na interes at marangyang pamumuhay ng iilan at ng kanilang mga malalapit na tao.

Imagine kung bawat pisong ibinayad ng taxpayers ay talagang ginamit nang tama. Ilang buhay kaya ang nailigtas? Ilang negosyo ang hindi sana nalugi? Ilang pamilya ang hindi na sana paulit-ulit na naglilinis ng putik at nagsisimula ulit sa tuwing may bagyo?

This isn't about political colors. Hindi ito usapin ng dilaw, pula, o berde. It's about accountability. Ang buwis ng bawat Pilipino ay dapat bumalik sa mamamayan sa anyo ng maayos na kalsada, modern flood control systems, at infrastructure na kayang tumagal ng maraming dekada. Hindi para maging source ng yaman ng iilan habang milyun-milyong Pilipino ang patuloy na lumulusong sa baha sa bawat malakas na ulan.

We deserve better. Hindi luho ang maayos na drainage system basic public service ito. At kung may mga lungsod na kayang gawin ito nang maayos, then every Filipino should be asking: Bakit hindi ito magawa sa buong Metro Manila? Saan ba talaga napunta ang pondo?

Kailan kaya susunod yung ibang banks at e-wallets? Let's be honest, they make a lot from transfer fees. Individually maliit lang, but when you multiply that by millions of transactions every month, ang laki ng kinikita nila.

My hunch is that the others will eventually follow. Competition is getting tougher, and if customers start expecting free transfers, banks and e-wallets will have no choice but to adapt. At the end of the day, mas pipiliin ng tao yung service na mas convenient at mas sulit.

Hopefully this becomes the new normal. It's a small change, but for people who transfer money regularly, malaking tipid din. More competition and better service are always good for consumers
