Section hike of the GR10

Hey guys,

I'm going to the pyrenees for a 500km section hike of the GR10 in a few weeks. I feel very dialed in, just looking for some suggestions, experiences or advice before leaving.

It'll be august, expected low will be 5C or 41F, expected high maybe 30C oe 85F. Probably not to many bugs since it's rather late in the season, if you've experienced otherwise please let me know. I'll layer every piece of clothing on the cold nights, if it's not enough I'd drape the quilt around me like a poncho. Not perfect but it'll work. If you don't think so, let me know. I'm expecting some storms in the afternoons, so I'll probably take breaks in refuges or under my tarp and continue hiking in the evenings. I will eat while walking, so not really chilling in camp in the evenings. I'd love to use a 40 degree quilt but I don't I have time to make it and I won't buy one. I'll do yoga and take naps on the thin light pad.

If you want to give me a shakedown I'm happy to hear you out. I don't really want to spend any more money because I already spent too much but 50 bucks would be fine I guess. I'm not tied to any specific piece of and I'm hiking alone.

I appreciate all suggestions and advice!

UL 25-35L Backpack

Hey guys,

I finished my first project a few days ago. I'm going to use it for a section hike of the GR10 this summer. I wanted to make a very simple and light pack made for walking all day.

I made my own pattern for the body, I traced the dimensions of my two backpacks I have and adjusted it for my needs. It tapers a lot to the bottom, so as my food disappears, the backpack stays tight, the extension collar isn't as long as I wanted but it'll work. More ultralight I guess lol. For the fabric I used recycled 70D diamond ripstop nylon with a UTS-coating.

For the straps I took inspiration from nashville packs since I've heard their supposed to be the most comfortable, but I wanted more space in the strap pockets, so I made em a little more vest like. I used their way for measuring the strap size and it worked good. I used the method of attaching the straps to the body with an O-ring which I got from the pa'lante joey straps. Mine don't have the perfect angle for my body shape but still very comfortable. I used gossamer gear 8th inch foam, 3d mesh and the ripstop nylon.

Large front mesh pocket, bottom pocket, shoulder strap pockets that fit 600ml softflasks and small items like sunscreen, sunglasses, soap, spoon and toilet paper. Side pockets that fit one 1l bottle my cold soaking jar and trekking poles. I wanted to make adjustable side compression straps for holding my trekking poles in place but decided on a non adjustable 10mm elastic instead for simplicity and less difficulty sewing. I also a added a sleeve for three sections of a thinlight pad.

I used an old electric sewing machine from my grandma. I had no sewing experience less than a month ago, but this was good exposure therapy :D. I learned alot. I used Gütermann tera 80 thread for everything with a microtex 70 and 80 needle.

I estimate it has 25l fully rolled down and maybe close to 35l filled to the brim. Finished weight is 326g.

Where do you like your tarp tie outs?

I'm going to make my first piece of gear this week with 15D silpoly, it's going to be rectangular. Where do you like your tie out points? Wich ones will give me the most flexibility regarding ways to set it up? Do you have any tips for a first timer?

What fabric for bike bags?

Wich fabrics do you guys use for bike bags that are reliably waterproof for years. The biggest thing I'm worried about it is laminates, although bike bags wont have stress points like for example backpacks. Ecopak, X-Pac, Liteskin and Ultra x seem like the best choices. What do you think of the new Venom 200 HPU? It seems incredible, especially for a beginner like me as it's supposed to be easy to sew.
