Bullet trains

The Winter City train became a road hazard. If I had the misfortune of crashing into it, the game would've probably frozen because scenic traffic lacks everything normal traffic needs for a crash sequence to function.

Fan art of Paradise's March 2006 prototype

As soon as I saw the videos showing this very early stage of development, I was motivated to make a drawing out of them eventually.

This art focuses on the video showing the drive from Downtown Paradise to a tunnel leading into the rural areas. I didn't include anything from the other footage featuring the quarry and Farm Lands, but I might do so down the line.

Not even Community Notes is capable of staying neutral about AI

My issue with the note is the tone, not the fact checking. They've fallen to the "AI slop" parroting cycle. "This is an AI generated video" would've been a lot better and emotionally mature, but I suppose that's asking for too much.

Unseen tally camera in Sunshine Keys

These flyovers after a crash event exist to count damage scores per crashed vehicle. The only reason there'd be this one beyond the intended crash area of *Smash my Ride* is because of a potential cut junction. It has been documented Sunshine Keys has a few of those.

Tribal wreckage

Island Paradise Impact 2 has always stood out to me as one of the most unsettling aftertouch ambiences.

Blink and get hit

Some cars no longer care about staying in their lane.

Also, it's not uncommon for traffic to hit you the exact frame they spawn in, if you're unlucky enough to be in their path.

The worst place for over steering

I don't like driving the Racer GTs. It's easy to lose control with them 🫠

Burnout Revenge for the PS1

The video in the menu is an early version of the Elite rank-up movie, found in the July 2005 prototype (Alpha 7)

Central Route's environment data gives every track a very dense, bright fog. Just like some PS1 games used to have.

Crash mode items at the island 🏝️🚗

Still missing the cash bonuses and crashbreaker. Might add the early/cut textures at some point, too.

Motionless on wheels

As I experimented with the traffic speed modifier, I set both float values to the same number (1000) expecting traffic to never brake and constantly zoom around. Instead, I got traffic frozen in place during races, to which I added standstill clouds for the full experience.

Interestingly, traffic behaves normally in crash events, which may have its own script for speed as it follows a preset pattern of spawn times, while race events, as I understand it, use procedural traffic generation depending on your position since the event started.
