Help ID’ing a part - when in doubt; Reddit!

Hey guys!

(Volvo XC90 2016) T8

Would someone be able to help me ID this part - image attached.

This heavy handed idiot pulled it out during a swap of the PCV box trying to solve an annoying high pitched screeching, which I haven’t solved yet because I’ve just broken this 😅

(Image from : https://www.swedespeed.com/threads/2016-xc90-crank-case-breather-hose-valve.692205/

I didn’t take a photo before I panicked shoved it back in with a broken seal, hoping for the best…you know)

Thankfully, this person on swedespeed had the same issue with a busted seal but no one ever got back to him on a replacement part/seal for the PCV valve hose leading from the PCV box.

I’m unable to find one online that looks like that

My hose is fine, flexible and not filled with residue but just the end cap seal is, not sealy anymore.

Thank you in advance!!

Newer than new Boeing 737’s

Not often you see a plane on a train (or part of it)

I believe the fuselages are assembled elsewhere and then driven by railroad down to Renton (KRNT) to be assembled and delivered!

Not sure if they’re still being built in Wichita, KS or up in Everett (KPAE) but it’s a cool sight to see

Apologies for the bad photos - I was driving and there was a state trooper behind me…

***Fact checked Edit: “***They still build 737 fuselages in Wichita” - Thank you for the clarification!

Boeing 777-9 taking off from KBFI

Figured you guys would appreciate this!

Showed my wife and she was just like “nice” 😂

Captured a couple weeks ago and I forgot it was on my phone, if I remember correctly it was heading over to Eastern WA, Spokane Area for some testing.

I’m fortunate enough that my job takes me down to both KBFI and Everett. Great seeing the “new” 777’s lined up, just hanging out waiting to go😂

Icelandair Virtual

I posted here a few weeks ago regarding our vFedEx - that gained some great responses and I’m glad people joined and are (hopefully) finding it enjoyable!!

We got tired as a collective VA of other Iceland Air VA’s opening + closing with no real updates, events or even attention from staff.

We opened our own.

All users are Welcome - 2020-2024-FSX-P3D

We still even have a dude on FS2004…he’s the real winner here.

And of course X-Plane users (I’m jealous of your 757)

- No activity requirements
- Regularly updated routes
- Monthly focus airports
- Monthly dynamic fleet events and challenges
- Custom built CPDLC/OPS Style messaging system in the Discord
- You’re not required to join the Discord either! Having 10+ VA Discords personally makes my head hurt

So, it’s the same as vFedEx. Just icy.

We’ve added Every. Single. Route - I think. Paying close attention to the 757/738M/A21N

Also you can fly the Fenix A320 since Icelandair have just leased I believe 2 of them. They’re only available on 2 routes but we’re leaning towards adding more of them in so you get more Fenix options.

And as a little gesture to people who are really loyal to PMDG - you can fly the 738-739 interchangeable with the Max if you so wish - We have liveries available for both 2020 and 2024.

“Why? That’s not realistic!”

Well not everyone has the money to scrape out another $70 for another 737- and they like PMDG! (I haven’t even made the jump yet to iFly)

Feel free to join if you wish!

We welcome constructive criticism, feedback, suggestions and anything else you can think of how we can make it better. We also have a native Icelandic staff member who works for IcelandAir to give us all the non-sensitive, unrestricted or NDA bound jump on things and help us fine tune it to be as realistic as possible

- without whining about a 737 😉

Seaplanes landing and departing Lake Washington, Seattle - WA

I was out paddle boarding last Sunday and caught two seaplanes landing onto the West side of Lake Washington and departing from two different houses - fancy courier maybe!

I’ve never seen them land on lake Washington before so naturally being a plane nerd got the phone out to record, flight radar said they both took off from Renton, then briefly landed on Lake Washington, then headed for Kirkland (North end about 25-30 miles away)

I didn’t have time to catch the first one landing, appeared from the same direction and I only noticed it when it touched down.

Apologies for the shaky footage, it’s a little hard to film and float/keep my balance 😂

Registrations are N175JR + N1213S

Dealing with Family when joining

Hey all -

As the title suggests, I’m having some trouble with convincing my family, notably my wife with my decision to go back to Law Enforcement.

I’ve just been accepted into my local Sheriffs Office, which I’m beyond happy with.

Previously coming from a county that doesn’t routinely carry firearms, only less lethal (I’m preparing for the big adjustment) - I’ve tried other jobs around the security/public safety sector.

Quite frankly it’s boring and doesn’t scratch that itch or desire to do more that you have when you leave (I guess depending on how you left)

I was a Police Officer for just shy of 11 years back home, I loved every second. Although looking back it was a love hate relationship - I’m sure you’re all aware of it. Hate it in the moment, look back and realise it’s some of your best memories.

I’m wouldn’t say I’m “job pissed” - common term for workaholics or overly enthusiastic, quite frankly annoying and only ever think about work officers back home. But I miss it and everything about it hence my decision to join.

The US is extremely different from back home, firearms for one obviously, a huge patrol area - so quite some distance from help if you need it and my wife and family are worried; naturally so about my safety and what the career can do or has done to relationships. She’s also wired to think all cops are bad, I’ve done a good job changing that perspective but it could use more work. So there’s an assumption there that I’ll turn into an asshole of some sort…

Another common saying is “join the force, get a divorce” since it’s insanely high in the LEO world and probably any emergency service pathway.

Does anyone have any advice for how to approach this tricky subject with my family? I know the training I’ll receive will be (hopefully) good or at least sub par at the academy - I’ve heard mixed things so I’m not holding my breath. As well FTO and continuous development - knowing it can be rigorous and demanding but with a flip side of real world instant knowledge, training and critiques.

I’ve tried reassurance, but I’m met with “how can you know, I’ll worry about you all the time, it would take a strain on us” just to quote a few things.

I feel selfish, but at the same time I absolutely do not want to be stuck in a generic office job hating my life and working for the weekend. I cannot and will not sit in a job that I hate just because it’s “safer” - it sounds aggressive and harsh but what kind of life is that. I know what I want to do, I’ve done it before and I enjoy it…

I’m being intentionally vague because my family have Reddit…

It’s hard to speak to friends about this subject since, well they’re all divorced or separated so you can kind of see how that discussion will go down.

Thanks in advance. I know it’s a very broad topic asking for help from Reddit.

How much is too much detail?

Hi all,

I’m new here. I’m currently (badly) writing about my past experiences as a first responder. Prompted by my wife after sharing a lot of my stories with her, she said it would be a good way to maybe adjust to not being in that field anymore. It initially was a sort of way to help myself more than anything to get things written down and out of my own head, she’s read a couple of scribbled together “chapters” and said I should look at sharing it with others.

Now, a lot of my experiences come with unfortunately a lot of gruesome details. I’m personally happy to share those details but honestly, how much is too much?

Humans from my understanding in my own life are curious and often want to know all the details about the story you’re telling or explaining to them. I often keep the gruesome or simply tough to swallow details out and replace them with a more socially acceptable way of describing an injury.

A good example is a freeway crash - people slow and stop to have a good view of it. I think it’s our curious nature - as annoying and inconsiderate of people as it is.

My target audience is anyone that is curious in the first responder world, other people in the field that are maybe struggling and maybe would benefit from a success story or two and that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

I thought I’d join this group and ask, it’s difficult to find an answer online when searching on Google for “should I say the brain was exposed or just that they were injured significantly”

Thanks!

New Discord CPDLC/ATC App

Hey all.

I posted our VA here about a week ago (thanks for everyone that joined and I’m hoping you’re liking it!

We do have 4 VA’s in total. I’ll post links so you can join if you wish!

I wanted to extend some news that I’ve been working on for the “offline” pilots that have been flying with us and maybe shed some interest to others who haven’t joined us yet.

We’re implementing a Discord bot that essentially becomes your ATC, OPS and CPDLC. The bot/app doesn’t need any external input from the user, just set your Simbrief ID in the channel for pinged notifications.

Obviously if you’re flying on Vatsim and get assigned a gate or other vectors/instructions etc - listen to them not the bot. It’s just there if you’d like that little extra step in realism when flying without ATC.

Currently a big work in progress. BUT - we hope to deploy it full time in a week or so. So it’s not live *YET*

Here’s the full feature list. It’s been coded so that it goes through this thought process and scans different platforms to receive and give you accurate data/responses. You do need to be a part of our VA’s to utilise it, that’s another layer we’ve added so we don’t get randoms using the same callsigns as our VA’s get notifications when we aren’t associated 😂

The image only displays the assigned stands as a tester (WIP)

Anyway here’s the links to our VA’s that’ll be utilising the feature in the coming weeks.

https://vamsys.io/register/vfedex

https://vamsys.io/register/vual

Discord invite links are on each VA page.

(AI Used to type up the feature list since I was spamming info on a notepad and excel)

vFedEx Virtual Airline

Hey guys,

With the (hopefully) BlueBird 757 on the horizon, I wanted to post our VA here for you to check out.

As the title suggests we’re a FedEx VA - we cover literally their entire fleet, and subsidiaries! So those 738F ops are a go!

Events are updated monthly with 6+ focus airports, community goals and we’re currently working on curating rosters for you to follow.

For those MD11 dogs (my personal favourite) we have the entire historic and current fleet included.

I won’t bore you with why we’re better speech, come check us out.

Hard landings are “accepted” - cargo doesn’t clap or moan.
