Literally just installed the app, but when I try to open it, my phone says "Strava keeps stopping". Help?

I don't have an account or anything yet, and everything is up to date. How can I fix this?

Daisy's Palace 1 Lap World Record!

Got a bad alignment for the final turn, so I had to take the slow cut. Other than that, pretty happy with the run.

No one has ever posted a video of a TT of a "secret" track, so I decided that because I couldn't find anything, I hold the WORLD RECORD! For a single lap, sub-40 NITA is easily possible. For 3-lap, I bet a sub-1:55 NITA could happen.

There is no easy way to time trial these, so let's try and get Nintendo to add them as 3-lap tracks in the future!

P.S, heres a list of them all if you want to claim an early world record:

Daisy's Palace (AF-SGB),
Reverse:
Wario Stadium (BC-rWS)
DK Pass (SSS-rDKP)
Moo Moo Meadows (I think MC or CM -MMM)
Mario Bros. Circuit (?-MBC)

Mario Circuit 1
Mario Circuit 2
Mario Circuit 3
Crown City 1
Crown City 2
Crown City 3

Let me know if I missed any, and also if you know what routes you can use to get to them. Thanks!

Should I rethink my goals?

I just yesterday ran a 5 mile road race. The course was net 0 elevation, but had some easy hills (from the perspective of a New Englander), with close to the start/finish being a long but gradual hill. Here were my PRs going into this: 6:30 mile (1st of 4x1mi (3min rest), others were basically all 7 flat), 23:22 official 5K (338ft combined elevation gain/loss), an unofficial 5K best of 23:18, which was split from a 4-Mile race (30:17.07), and an unofficial 5 mile best of 40:14 during a tempo run.

Now here were my mile splits from this one 5 mile race:

7:20, 14:30 (7:10), 21:56 (7:24), 29:11 (7:15), and 5:33.

Yes. I quadruple-checked those numbers. I got five PRs in one race: 14:30 2-Mile, 22:19 5K (-59 sec), 29:11 4-Miler (-1:06), 34:44 5-Miler (-5:30), and a 5:33 last mile (-57 sec). I may have misdone some math, feel free to correct me on that if I did.

This race was basically right at sea level, but I only live at like 500ft, so I don't think I benefited from that very significantly. Also, I don't trust my watch's altitude sensor at all - when at my house at 500 ft it will say that I am at something way off, like 100 feet below sea level. The distance my watch recorded it probably off too, as my watch is around 0.02 off per half mile usually.

Initially, my goals for next season (HS sophomore year) were a sub-6 mile and a sub-21 5K, but this race kinda wrecks the first, and makes me think I could do the 5K once I recovered. So... what now? I will be doing 3 sports next season: XC, Nordic skiing, and my first year of Track (long distance obv). I know there will be people saying I should do indoor track instead of Nordic, but I will not stop doing it. I have been doing Nordic longer than I have been running.

Bit of luck, bit of skill, both matter.

Should I add the minimap for my next video, and if so, where would be the best spot? If it helps, I post these on YouTube.

Toad's Factory TT Help?

I am trying to get sub 1:55 on Toad's Factory. Currently, I am at just barely sub-1:58. How can I get the green turn 4 conveyer belt on lap 3? I think that is my biggest limiter.

Little compilation I made of useful tech

The DK Pass 3 tree cut and Shy Guy Bazaar stats are ones I learned watching JixcsMKW on YouTube. For the second SGB one, I credit L1am for the feather variation.

Difficulty:

How hard the shortcut or tech is to pull off. May be somewhat biased, as I am an 8.5-8.7K player.

Practicality:

How realistic it is to make it in a real race, with item probabilities and consistency factored in.

Usefulness:

Essentially how much time it saves; how much it will help you win the race.

Dry Bones Burnout feather cut: just another way to do it. Could save you from a shock by being in the air with a good amount of momentum.

DK Pass 3 Tree cut: faster than the gold rail on a log strat, also lets you get an item. More difficult, though. Very good for frontrunning, especially if you are trying for a shroom or feather.

Shy Guy Bazaar: useful if you don't know turn skip, or if it is too dangerous to take it. The feather variation is a lot faster, and gets you an item, where regular turn skip won't.

Boo Cinema Feather: doesn't save a lot, but it was the best spot I could find for a feather. Also, skips an item set. It isn't very good.

Wario Shipyard wall ride thing: could be a micro-save for time trials, but definitely too hard and inconsistent for online play. I have made it a grand total of 3 times, out of maybe 25 attempts.

Hope this is helpful! Feel free to ask me questions about these strats, I will answer them to the best of my ability. I might make another one of these in the future, but I don't know when.

4 mile race - is this good in relation to my other PRs, and is is crazy to shoot sub-21 5k next season?

This was a 4 mile race that the town put on for the 4th, so I figured why not run it? I got second in my age group (13-19, I am 15M), losing only to my former XC captain (who was probably taking it a bit easy, his 5K is low 18s). Chip time was 30:17.07 for me. It wasn't as hot as it has been, but the humidity was a big factor (I live in New England, if that helps). Here are my PRs:

400m: 1:19, 11th of 11x400m.

1K: 3:54, got 1025m in 4 min (doing 4x4 to see if I like time or distance intervals better).

Mile: 6:30, first of 4x1mi (3 min rest). Others were 6:58, 7:00, and 6:58.

5K: official is 23:22, 338ft combined gain/loss of elevation. Avg pace: 7:32 (course ran a bit long). Best was actually in this run, 23:18, but that was due to the net downhill course. My altimeter isn't the most accurate.

4 mile: (see above)

5 mile: 40:14, as part of a tempo run I admittedly went a bit to hard on, though it was a mostly flat course.

Advice an thought are appreciated. Thanks!

Edit: I should note, I will continue to do Nordic skiing for the remainder of HS, and though I didn't this season, I am planning on doing outdoor track for the rest.

Predictions for next season?

I am a freshman male (this year, next is sophomore) and I am wondering about a few things. Mostly, 1. What is a reasonable goal for a 4-mile race, 2. Can I get sub-20 next season, and 3. Is it better to set goals as sub-21 -> sub-19 -> sub-17 or sub-20 -> sub-18 -> sub-17?

Here's some of my data:

5'8.5", 135-140lbs.

5K: 23:22, 338ft elevation gain/loss (combined), mix of road and trails.

Mile: 6:30, first of 4x1mi w/ 3 min rest (others were 6:58, 7:00, and 6:58, all on sidewalk).

400m: 1:19, part of 11x400m, towards the end. All were sub-1:35, except for maybe two. On sidewalk.

5 miles: 40:14, in a tempo run that I admittedly went a bit hard on, and the heat was a (small) factor. On sidewalks, fairly flat.

The 4-mile race is this Saturday, and the elevation look like this: ~ It is net downhill, and on the road.

Also, is there anything that I can add to my training? I do easy, one long run a week, 1 hard day a week, 1 rest day a week, 1-2 cross training days a week, and 1 strength session a week. I generally try to avoid dairy, but I have some cheese now and then. I aim for 8.5+ hours of sleep, and I warm-up for every run and stretch after. My hard runs are usually intervals or tempo runs. For intervals, should I focus more on speed or lactic acid, or even cruise intervals?

I know this is a lot, but I appreciate the help.

Looking to get into Ice Boat Racing

I am playing Bedrock Edition on the Switch. Does anyone know of any mods or add-ons I could install, and if there are any servers? I am really pretty new to this. I also don't want to build my own courses entirely by hand. Any help at all os appreciated. Thanks in advance!

How I Celebrated Surviving Another Year of School

5 mile tempo run! Was pretty hot.

Here's my info: 15M, 5'8", 137-ish lbs, ~8 months of consistent aerobic training (XC, the Nordic Skiing, now HM training), 6:30 mile (part of 4x1mi, 4min rest), 1:20 400 (part of 11x400, 90 sec rest), and now a 40:14 5-mile!

My questions are as follows.

  1. Is a sub-1:50 half marathon possible in late September with consistent training?
  2. Next fall XC season, could I shoot for a sub-21 5K (current is 23:22, 338 feet total elev. including down)?
  3. When should I start doing cruise intervals instead of on long tempo run?

Advice and thoughts are appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Earlier today, I made a post asking for help with the Tarzan shortcut on Cheep Cheep Falls. Someone asked for a clip, so here it is.

u/TheDarkestKnight7852 — 4 months ago

I am running my first half marathon late this upcoming September. I have two questions.

Number 1: here are my last 5 scheduled long runs before taper:

11 miles

9 miles (deload)

13.1 miles

12.5 miles

12.5 miles

I am wondering if these distances are good, or if I should change them. Also, should I add in some miles at goal pace on a few?

Number 2: every prediction (multiple websites, VDOT) has said 1:46 to 1:48 based off of my 5K track PR of 23:13. My XC course PR is 24:38 with +5-8ft net, ~150-200 ft uphill. I am wondering when I should update this prediction, and based off of what? I am running a 5K next weekend, and another on May 17th, but this is so far away from my race they will likely be insignificant unless I PR, which is unlikely for the first (3-400ft gain, net 0) but more likely for the 2nd (flatter course). I also just got back into running after Nordic (averaged as top 30% finisher), so I am a bit slower. I know I am rambling, but I got a 22:33 3.03 mile tempo run this past Thursday, which is about 23min 5k (though it was on a flat paved trail).
