I've been building a homebrew world called Aya, drawn from African mythologies and cultures — Ethiopia, Ancient Egypt, the Yoruba — and fully compatible with D&D 5e. This is Jabari, and he belongs to a people I call the Baaka.
A bit about the world first. Aya isn't named after a god or a conqueror — she was a founding ancestress, and every kingdom in my setting traces its line back to her. Aya founds instead of being taken. The world is matrilineal at its root.
The Baaka are a people of small stature (my take on "dwarves" — the name nods to the Baka of the Congo Basin), organized into four callings:
Shamans — the spiritual voice
Hunter-gatherers — daily life and the land
Forge-earth — the makers and craftsmen
Warrior-druids — the rarest and most powerful
Jabari is a warrior-druid. They're trained from early childhood in all four disciplines, so they're essentially complete Baaka — the whole people distilled into one person. That's why there are so few of them, and why they're so feared.
Here's the heart of it. The Baaka are a pacifist people, but they hold that a justice without force is nothing. So they raise a handful of their children to become terrifying — the crocs and the blades of the Baaka — precisely so the rest never have to be. Warrior-druids are sent when the Baaka's peace is violated. They are executioners. There's a quiet tragedy in that I really wanted Jabari to carry: he holds the violence so no one else has to.
Mechanically he sits at the Barbarian/Druid crossroads — he fuses rage and animal form in combat. He can shift into several beasts, but his preferred offensive form is a massive black lion. The black is deliberate: the golden lion is Western heraldry, the sun-king. A black lion is nocturnal, funereal — the thing that comes when the balance is already broken. It also quietly ties back to Ethiopia, whose lions are famous for their dark manes.
On the design side, I tried to plant the lion before he ever transforms — the deep plum-black of his torso and the heavy braided beard already read like a mane waiting under the skin. The braided beard with gold beads and metal caps is meant to signal status and East-African/Nubian tradition, and the carved ritual medallions at his belt hint at his role as a keeper of balance.
Still very much a work in progress (that skirt is at the sketch stage 😅). Would love thoughts, and happy to answer anything about the world!
Bonjour je recherche une table pour jouer sur talespire
Hey everyone 👋
I’m currently working on a fan-made animation project based on a pretty crazy matchup: Conquest from Conquest vs Krillin from Krillin.
The goal isn’t just to make a cool fight, but also to stay as accurate as possible to both characters’ abilities, speed, power, and combat experience.
Conquest is an absolute monster in terms of brutality and endurance, but Krillin in the Dragon Ball universe reaches insanely high power levels compared to most other universes. Between the Destructo Disc, his speed, and his experience fighting enemies way stronger than himself, I’m honestly wondering how this fight would really play out.
So I want your opinions:
I’ll probably post some WIP clips and previews if people are interested 🔥
