What is it with Rhysand and Xaden? (I know people ask this a lot!)
Ok, so I haven't actually read Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros yet, but I have read all of Sarah J. Maas' books. And after I finished ACOTAR, I had a look around BookTok plus a few other places, where I immediately noticed the obsession with Rhys.
Now, I wouldn't say I disliked the character, but he never really felt… real to me. I just don't understand what the big deal is. He's tall, has dark hair and purple eyes, incredibly powerful, and a bit of an 'alphahole'. 😅
⚠️ The following contain spoilers for the whole ACOTAR series ⚠️
>!What confused me most, though, was the way he treated Feyre. Even if he was supposed to be acting like the villain Under the Mountain, he still encouraged her to drink alcohol and wear really revealing clothing that she repeatedly said made her uncomfortable. He also forcibly kissed her, and even though he apologised later, it still didn’t sit right with me.!<
>!And even if I can kind of understand some of that given the situation they were in, there were still so many moments where he treated her as though she was weaker than him—especially during the pregnancy, when he hid literally life-threatening information from her. That felt completely at odds with how he kept insisting they were equals earlier in the series.!<
>!But then… even as I say that, there are moments with the whole High Lady situation that still give me shivers 😂!<
I don't know about Xaden yet, but I'm genuinely curious why characters like Rhys are so attractive to so many readers. Is it something to do with the contrast to real-world men, clever marketing or is there something else I'm missing?
I also made a 2-3 minute google form to fill out for a better insight, and if anyone is interested, just ask in the comments -but no worries if not!
I hope I haven't offended anyone - I am genuinely really curious to see what people think!
