Recommendations that aren’t TikTok famous

Curious to know what peoples die hard book recommendations are that aren’t circulating the trends right now? What do you read over and over? What is a book you’d defend like your life depends on it?

Starting Flock on a gloomy morning 🖤 do I need to emotionally prepare?

No spoilers please, but I finally picked up Flock after seeing The Ravenhood everywhere. Is this more romance, heartbreak, chaos, or all of the above?

Building a highlighting tape pen for books

Hi! I’m Sigge, 16 y/o from Sweden :)

Just a super quick question 🙌

Me and some classmates realized how annoying it is that you can’t really highlight or take notes in schoolbooks without writing directly in them, so I started sketching ideas.

Its basically a pen that applies removable transparent highlighting tape, so you can mark text and add notes without writing directly on the pages. I wanted it to feel simple and practical to use, with a small button that lets you switch or remove the tape pretty easily.

Any thoughts? Is this something you’d actually buy or use? What do you think about the concept/idea?

Thanks alot!😊

This is a 3D render/concept I made in Blender just to visualize how the product could look:

Today is Honore de Balzac’s birthday — the novelist admired by Dostoevsky, Zola, Flaubert, Proust, and generations of writers

Actually, Dostoevsky’s first published book was a translation of Balzac’s Eugénie Grandet.

I just illustrated and designed this cover for a lovely cozy fantasy book with witchy vibes and a sentient bookshop & café! Any thoughts and feedback are very welcome:)

Only reading popular books. Are y’all the same?

I noticed that the majority of the books on my shelves are ones that are considered “popular” or “booktok books”. I don’t see that as bad, but I want to read books that people don’t talk about as much. It’s been 3 years since I started reading, so I also want to read more diversely too. I have a college advising appointment today, so I plan on going to my library and thrift some books while im there. I’m going to try and keep an open mind 😂 Usually, I just go in and hope to find a book I’ve heard of instead of taking the time to read synopsis and find something that seems interesting. The way things are set up at my library makes actually looking so overwhelming, so I just quickly glance over them too. I hope to leave with at least 2 books. But yeah, a goal of mine is to read more diversely. That includes genre too.

I need book recommendations stat!

Hey guys! I’ve been in such a reading slump lately and I need some good books to completely lose myself in. (Can be romantasty, magical, romantic but I’d prefer romance to be the main plot point)
Here’s what I like in a romance book:

Enemies to lovers
Slow burn
High tension
Best friends brother or brothers best friend
Banter
Flirting
DUAL POV PREFERABLY
Fated mates trope books are welcome as well!

But even if there isn’t some of those things still please comment your fav books because I will always try something once!

I’ll also include a few of my favourite books I’ve read:

Anything by Ana Huang
Wild love by Elsie silver
In which Margo Halifax earns her shocking reputation by Alexandra Vasti
The maple hills series by Hannah grace (although I like the last two more)
Hooked by Emily McIntire

Thank you! I truly look forward to your recommendations!

Book Review: Shadows of the Sundered Lands by Corbin Rook

SCALES AND MODERN, STREAMLINED STORYTELLING

QUICK THOUGHTS

If you’re a big reader of the genre, you’ll know what I’m talking about when I say that modern fantasy just has a certain feeling. That sense of fantasy with the character focus dialed up to eleven, with action and dialogue that feels snappy and well honed. The sort of feeling you get from reading something like Sanderson’s Mistborn or Weeks’ Lightbringer. So when I say that Corbin Rook’s debut novel, Shadows of the Sundered Lands, evokes the feeling of modern fantasy in the right way, you’ll know exactly what I mean.

Shadows is a character focused, action forward story that is driven by an interesting magic system, a cast that feels engaging and familiar and a plot that creates immediate investment. It is a compelling debut that establishes the world and makes big promises of what’s to come from this author.

Dark Romance Book Rec

I am currently reading the Legacy of Gods series by Rina Kent and i am ADDICTED. I mean a book a day.
I know the Rinaverse of all her series and they’re in my plans but not all are released at Waterstones so i have to wait!

I like the obsessiveness, possessiveness, JEALOUSY and SMUT but the couple ending up together.

I want some more dark romance book series recommendation based on what i like above for after this series?

Getting rid of special editions

has anyone else got rid of all their special editions and just gone to normal / kindle books? or close to?

buying special editions has become a bit of an addiction and although they are beautiful the expense really adds up

plus I find I’m buying them just for the look and not the content and it’s making me lose my love of reading a little

Currently reading The Secret History and I think I have an unpopular opinion 😭

I’m around 15% in and… is it just me or is this book super slow?

Don’t get me wrong, Donna Tartt’s writing is beautiful and the atmosphere is amazing. I totally get the dark academia appeal and I can see why people love it. But I feel like I’m just slowly walking around with these characters while waiting for something to happen.

Please tell me I’m not alone here. Did it eventually click for you or is the pacing just part of the experience?
