This has become my comfort game
I've been a geek for as long as I've had schizophrenia, so basically my whole life.
When my disease overwhelms me, like it did today, I try to find something that calms and comforts me. More frequently, it's become this game.
I think it's the combination of content, theme, and even the Hunter being an "odd" person that make this game so damn comforting to me.
Favorite Sci-Fi properties that kind of got lost to time?
There's so much amazing science fiction, across all mediums, that comes out in each generation that it's impossible for every good piece of media to stand the test of time. What are some of your favorite pieces of sci-fi that you think are in the process of getting lost to time?
For me, in terms of books, it's gotta be the Barsoom series. I know it's technically more like sword and planet than modern sci-fi but still, it was hugely influential to the genre as a whole and most people these days have never even heard of it.
When it comes to shows, it's Farscape. No doubt about it. It's my favorite show of all time for quite a few reasons, many personal, but I still think it holds up as great sci-fi. Despite being largely forgotten, I think it was wonderful and remains worth watching.
What are some common symptoms of this disease that the public doesn't know about or associate with it?
For me, it's the memory issues.
I see people talking about "neurodivergent memory problems" all the time online and it's usually just brain fog or related to ADD.
My memory as a schizophrenic is not only bad, it's insidious. I can barely recall things I want to remember, including some of the best moments of my life. Often, if I can remember, they're hazy and spotty at best.
But the worst moments of my life? I'll recall those randomly in perfect detail like I'm reliving it.
Thanks a lot, schizophrenia.
