Weekly Recap | August 20, 2026

Welcome to Thursday! It wouldn't be Thursday without a Weekly Recap in r/help, so here I am! I hope everyone has had a good week since we last convened. The NFL is firing up again, so that's something. But the saying "the dog days of summer" is really hitting home right now. It's warm and I'm a little sluggish. lol So let's make it through another Recap and then find ways to beat the heat!

NEWS AND ISSUES

  • In case you missed it, there was a new Changelog published last week.

  • We had a little thing on Wednesday yesterday where comments weren't able to be submitted on old Reddit, but worked fine on the new site. That was fixed up fairly quickly and we replied on several posts like this one that it was being worked on and we updated when it was fixed

  • Some users will be in an experiment where there is an X on posts that you can click/tap to hide the post. Others will be in a similar experiment where there is not an X and there is not a "hide" option, but there is a "show fewer" option instead. "Show fewer" will accomplish the same thing as the X or the "hide" option. Also, some recommendations will have neither the X or a Happy to pass along constructive feedback about this.

  • There's also an experiment where upvote buttons are on the left.

  • Just a reminder that Reddit does not provide support outside of Reddit. Do not contact "Reddit support on Discord" for help with your account because that is not a real thing. That is someone trying to scam you and steal your account. If you're having an actual issue with your account that is not solved by posting in r/help or by the articles in the Help Center, you can use this form for the real thing. Please note that 95% of issues can be solved by posting in r/help (or our cousin subs, r/reddithelp and r/newtoreddit)

  • The most recent version of the app is 2026.33.0. If you're not using the most recent version of the app, it might not work properly.

CURRENT EXPERIMENTS

Reddit sometimes runs experiments. These experiments tend to last between 4-6 weeks, though they can go longer or end sooner. While there isn't a way to opt out of experiments, feel free to leave constructive and specific feedback in this post and as I've mentioned often, I'll be happy to pass it along to the team in charge. Ongoing current experiments can be found here.

COMMON ACCOUNT ISSUES

Common account issues can be found here. These are things like hacked accounts, NSFW accounts, suspended accounts, etc. I'm also including "Changes to Reddit" in this section as well. (Thanks to u/reddit33450 for pointing out the error in these two links so I could fix it!)

BUGS ROUNDUP - COURTESY OF CORRECTSCALE!

  • [Web] The option to “view more” may be missing right now if you have more than 25 mod applications. This is being looked into.

  • [Web] Some mods reported issues with banning or muting users in mod mail. The fix for this went out last night!

  • [Web/iOS/Android] Some users are noticing that their chat allow list is filling with users from their blocked list. The good news is that this appears to be visual only, but it is still being investigated in order the implement a fix.

  • [Mweb] Re-ordering flair isn't working properly on mobile web right now. Ticket has been filed for this one

  • [All platforms] Finally, the other day, some users couldn't upload images, but this was fixed pretty quickly, so all is good once again!

WEEKLY STATISTICS (BASED ON THE PAST SEVEN DAYS)

  • 1,045 posts. That's down 210 posts from the 1,255 that we had last week.

  • 4,345 comments. That's down 1,455 comments from the 5,800 we had last week.

  • 1.3m views. That's down around 90k views from the 1.4m-ish views we had last week.

HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - REPORTING A SUBREDDIT

Obviously, subreddits are expected to follow the Reddit Rules and the moderators are expected to follow the Moderator Code of Conduct. But sometimes, that doesn't happen and things go off the rails. If you see something like that, please report it.

To report a subreddit, you can file a report here. Under "What is your community concern?", please select "I want to report a subreddit for violating the Reddit Rules". When you get down to the "Details" part, please include details! Links to posts are going to be important as well as a clear explanation of what is going on.

To report a Moderator Code of Conduct violation, you can use this form.

HELPINGEST HELPERS HELPING HELP R/HELP

You know, I really enjoy putting this list together. You'd think I have an automation for it (or some sort of robot or technically savvy elf), but no. I just do it. And I love when I see new usernames helping out all over! I really love it when I see usernames I recognize and have convos with! It's just really great to see everyone working together and helping out. So here's a list of folks who were super helpy in here last week!

  • u/westcoastcdn19

  • u/Stranger1982

  • u/PurplePassiflor1234 - You are back and back STRONG. lol Just like that, you've earned the Helper Level Six trophy! Congratulations! So glad you're here! (And moderating now, I see! Nice!)

  • u/thepottsy

  • u/SnooDonuts6494

  • u/ChzGoddess

  • u/Terminator7786

  • u/reddit33450

  • u/evilash88 - WELCOME!! Thanks for stopping by and helping out! You've earned the Helper Level One trophy and it looks great on your profile!

  • u/ChimpyChompies

  • u/Charupa-

Y'all are fantastic! Thank you so much for answering everyone's questions and poking me when it's a pokeable situation!

Also want to shout out our cousins over in r/newtoreddit and r/reddithelp! Both of those subs are fantastic resources with knowledgeable helpers! Thank you so much for facilitating such great communities!

Thank you to everyone who hangs out and helps out! It wouldn't be r/help without you! You're so appreciated! And on that cheery note, I hope everyone has a fabulous week ahead of themselves! I will see you in the comments and in the sub! Let's meet here next week for another Recap, though! Wouldn't feel like Thursday without one! lol

Weekly Recap | August 13, 2026

Hello! We meet again! And again and again! This is the Weekly Recap where I highlight things that happened in r/help and on Reddit over the past week. It's also the best place to leave constructive feedback for just about anything related to Reddit.

NEWS AND ISSUES

  • There's a new Changelog out. We posted about this here, here, and here. It was a good one! Highlights include:

  • There is an X icon next to posts that you can select to hide the post

  • Free awards for all users!

  • For mods, Rules Hub now available in more communities

  • Also for mods, there will be more transparency in your mod logs

  • The Changelog also included notable bug fixes, such as:

  • [Web] The mod insights page will now fully load as expected.

  • [Web] Required post flair can no longer be removed after a post is submitted.

  • [Web] Non-mod users will now see the expected wiki page experience instead of an incorrect access error.

  • [iOS] Hyperlinks added while editing a comment will now remain in the original comment thread.

  • [iOS/Android] Subreddit mentions on wiki pages will now appear as tappable links as expected.

  • [iOS/Android] The subreddit rules widget will now render as expected across the apps and web.

  • [Android] Users can now view all comment replies when opening a comment from a profile page.

  • [Android] Display names will now appear correctly in dark mode.

  • Note: This is not a complete list of all recent bug fixes. If you’d like to report a new or persistent bug, head over to r/bugs.

  • If a bug listed here is not yet fixed for you, please ensure that you’re updated to the most recent Android or iOS app version, or refresh your browser.

  • The Home Feed experiment is currently only enabled for users of the iOS beta app. If you are not using the iOS beta app, you should no longer have the Home Feed/For You experiment enabled. (No one is happier about this than me.) Thank you to everyone who had previously left feedback about this experiment. I have shared it all with the team in charge of this feature. And here we are!

  • There is another experiment that enables text selection in comments and moves the usual tap-to-collapse gesture to the comment header. Happy to pass along constructive feedback about this to the correct team.

  • Just a reminder that Reddit does not provide support outside of Reddit. Do not contact "Reddit support on Discord" for help with your account because that is not a real thing. That is someone trying to scam you and steal your account. If you're having an actual issue with your account that is not solved by posting in r/help or by reading (yes, reading!) the articles in the Help Center, you can use this form for the real thing.

  • The most recent version of the app is 2026.32.0.

BUGS ROUNDUP - COURTESY OF CORRECTSCALE!

  • [Desktop web] Some users may see the page reload after submitting on old Reddit, leaving only a single comment thread visible. It's me. I am some users. This is being investigated.

  • [iOS] On iOS, some folks are running into an issue where the app doesn’t load properly. The investigation into this has turned up a few leads. No fix right now, but hopefully soon!

  • [iOS] Some people were seeing a “content unavailable” error when interacting with some comments, comment reply notifications or mod queue items. We pushed a fix out a few hours ago, and this should now be cleared up! Users may need to force quit and relaunch the app to resolve the error.

WEEKLY STATISTICS (BASED ON THE PAST SEVEN DAYS)

  • 1,255 posts. That's a down a little by 129 posts from the 1,384 that we had last week.

  • 5,800 comments. That's up 800 comments from the 5,000 we had last week. Chatty!

  • 1.4m views. That's up about 300k views from the 1.1m-ish views we had last week.

I like that the posts are kind of holding steady and the comments are increasing. No need to make a new post if you can get the help you need from an existing post!

HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - ACCOUNT CHECKUP

Right now, please take a moment to make sure that the email on your account is up to date. Make sure that it is an email that you have access to and will have access to in the future. Ideally, you will not be using a school or a work email that you will lose access to if you are ever not at that school or place of employment. You should be using a personal email that you always have access to.

If you ever need a password reset email, it can only be sent to the email on the account. If you don't have an email on your account or you don't have access to the email on the account, you won't be able to receive the password reset email. Reddit will not change the email on the account on your behalf. Reddit does not offer alternative methods of resetting the password for your account. We won't send a text. We certainly won't call you! It's email.

You do not want to lose your account. I know you don't! So just please, check right now. I'll be here when you get back!

Oh, good! You're back! That was quick! But now you have the peace of mind that you can recover your account if you're ever locked out! How great is that?? Pretty great! Thank you for taking account security seriously!

HELPINGEST HELPERS HELPING HELP R/HELP

Every week, I like to shout out the folks who have been helping the most around r/help. We all can't be everywhere all at once, so this sort of a team effort really helps keep the sub running smoothly. I am truly appreciative of everyone who helps out, as are the people who are getting the help! Here is a list of people who went above and beyond last week and helped help r/help!

  • u/westcoastcdn19

  • u/SnooDonuts6494

  • u/thepottsy

  • u/ChzGoddess

  • u/Terminator7786

  • u/formerqwest

  • u/Stranger1982

  • u/AbsoluteMadness2024 - Hello there! Welcome to the show! Appreciate your help! You now have the Level One Helper trophy on your profile and it looks great!

  • u/xwOBA_Fett

  • u/IKIR115

  • u/PurplePassiflor1234 - Omg! Welcome back! Hope you've been well! Thanks for helping out!

  • u/Old_One_I

What a great group! I love seeing everyone in here helping out! We're really living up to the subreddit name! XD

And that's another hot August week in the book! Thank you to everyone for being here and for helping out. You know where to find me and I know where to find you! =) Have a great week everyone!

Weekly Recap | August 6, 2026

Welcome to Thursday! It's the first Thursday of August AND it's another week where I recap the week that was!

NEWS AND ISSUES

  • There was a thing on Monday where Android users were getting logged out when opening the app. Grrrr. That was fixed pretty quickly, though!

  • Reddit made some announcements about the future of Reddit, the future of mod tools and the future of Reddit's public data! If you missed this, you can read them all here, here and here.

  • If you have any feedback on the above changes, please comment on those posts!

  • Just a reminder that Reddit does not provide support outside of Reddit. If some rando sends you a chat, be on high alert if you decide to reply. There are a lot of scams out there and they're looking for easy targets.

  • The most recent version of the app is 2026.31.0.

BUGS ROUNDUP - COURTESY OF CORRECTSCALE!

  • [Desktop web] Some mods are reporting having trouble editing user flair for some users. This is being investigated. Let me know if this is happening in your sub!

  • [Android] Some users are seeing no contributions on their profile when they clearly have content. While this is still being investigated, there isn't a fix just yet. But they're working on it!

  • [Android] Some users are reporting getting randomly logged out of the app. This is being looked into and it may be related to the issue I mentioned above where users were getting logged out when opening the app.

  • BUG FIX [iOS] The issue with subreddit rules pages failing to show up in some communities has been fixed as of last Friday, July 31!

  • BUG FIX [Android/iOS] Some subreddit names were showing up on wiki pages as plain text instead of links. This has also been fixed!

  • Translation options for some languages are currently unavailable for some folks. We replied to a post here about this. Reddit is in the process of improving/tweaking certain supported languages, so some language may be unable to be translated during this transition period.

WEEKLY STATISTICS (BASED ON THE PAST SEVEN DAYS)

  • 1,384 posts. That's back up to around out usual amount from from the 751 that we had last week.

  • 5,000 comments. That's up over 1,300 comments from the 3,783 we had last week.

  • 1.1 views. That's down about 110k views from the 1.2m-ish views we had last week.

No idea why we're bouncing all over the place here. lol But folks are getting helped, so that's what matters!

HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - HAVING AN EMAIL ASSOCIATED WITH YOUR USERNAME

Still thinking about doing something a little different with this space. Haven't done it yet, though! lol

When you create an account, you are asked to provide an email. While that was not always the case, it is currently a requirement. If you don't want to provide your actual email address, there isn't anything stopping you from putting in a fake email address or a temporary email address in order to create an account, but that's a bad idea. A very bad idea. And here's why...

Having an email address that you have access to verifies your ownership of the account. When you write in, we will compare the email address that you write in from to the email address on the account. Reddit will not provide any information about an account unless contacted from the email address associated with the account. The exception to this is if your account is hacked and your email has been changed. However, in that instance, you will still need to contact us from the email that was originally on the account.

If you have created your account with a phone number, your account will not have your email on it until YOU add it. This Help Center article goes over how to add an email to your account if you created it with your phone number.

And if you need a password reset, it can only be sent to the email address on the account! If you don't have access to whatever that email address is, you will not be able to receive a password reset if you ever need one. Now, you may be thinking that you have the best memory in the world and on top of that, you have etched your password in stone and put that in a safe that only you have the combination to. And while all of that is great (but kinda weird), none of it will help you if your account is locked for an unexpected reason. If your account is hacked, your account will be locked and you will not be able to use the account until you reset your password. If Reddit detects unusual activity on your account and locks it, you will not be able to use the account until you reset your password. And if you don't have access to the email on your account or there isn't an email on your account, you will not be able to reset your password and will no longer be able to use your account.

Reddit will not change your email on your behalf. The exception to this is if your account is hacked and your email has been changed. However, in that instance, you will still need to contact us from the email that was originally on the account. Reddit will also not change your phone number on your behalf. You are responsible for your account, so please take that responsibility seriously.

TL;DR Please add an email address that you can always access to your Reddit account. You'll be glad you did!

Monthly Recap | July 2026

Hello! Welcome to the July edition of the Monthly Recap, where I briefly recap our Mod Topics posts on the moderation discussions that were posted for the month. Helper flair has also been updated!

July Discussion and Support threads

Let’s take a look back at our weekly series of moderation-focused discussion topics that happened in July. Always looking for suggestions for future topics, so feel free to throw ideas out there!

July 2, 2026: Troll Avoidance 101
The month started off with everyone’s favorite jabroni, u/JabroniRevanchism, discussing how not to feel the inevitable trolls that will make an appearance (usually when you’d least like them to).

July 4, 2026 - No post due to American Independence Day

July 7, 2026: Mod misconceptions
The second week in July started off with u/AsteriskRX taking the wheel to see what sort of crazy rumors are floating around out there about mods. Turns out, there’s a lot!

July 9, 2026: Community Helpers
Things stayed hot this week with u/techiesgoboom taking a page from my book and talking about community helpers! Shout out to all the r/modsupport helpers and my r/help helpers! Helping help really helps!

July 14, 2026: Looking to connect with fellow mods around the world?
u/iceeypisces stopped by to invite everyone to their par-tay! There was a Virtual Mod Meetup on Wednesday, July 15th. Did you attend? How was it?

July 16, 2026: Expectation vs Reality
Mutiny on the Bounty! u/AsteriskRX popped in to steal post Jabroni’s missive about what you thought moderating would be like before you actually got in there! We were young and innocent back then, weren’t we??

July 21, 2025: Your request has been granted! Now what?
Oh, look! It’s me! And I looovvveee to talk about Redditrequest! More than that, though, I looovvveee to hear what y’all do when you take over a sub! Holy cats, what a great post (if I do say so myself) that turned out to be. Thank you to everyone who shared the methods to their madness in there! I learned A LOT.

July 23, 2026: Post Flair
u/techiesgoboom asked about post flair and how you use it. They also took the opportunity to showcase their Devvit app flair follower! It’s a great app! Use it to never miss a Mod Topics post!

July 28, 2026: What’s something new mods tend to overlook?
Not wanting to overlook anything, u/iceeypisces returned to get some input on what new mods tend to overlook when starting out on their moderation journey. They also took a moment to plug the New Mod Bootcamp, which takes place on August 11, 2026.

July 30, 2026: What happens when mods disagree?
Techies wanted to post this, but I said NO. Just kidding! But it does bring up the question of what happens when mods disagree? There’s not one right answer and we wanted to hear how you handle disagreements, whether they be major or minor!

Moderator Share & Tell

Here’s where you get to share your exciting news from last month with us! What awesome things happened in your communities?? There’s gotta be something! TELL ME. Last month...

u/Oddie-hoodie369 was back! Their Mod Recruit Devvit app “ended up winning the Moderator's Choice Award in the recent Devvit hackathon. Thanks to all the mods who tried it, reported bugs, and shared ideas. Y'all made it way better than I ever could ❤️ And thanks to the Reddit and Devvit team for making it possible 🫶 “ How great is that?? Congratulations u/Oddie-hoodie369!!

Flair updates

User flair is assigned to the top 10% and top 25% of users who are consistently constructive in their replies to posts and comments in this sub over the course of the past twelve months. As of this post, these are your current flaired helpers.

And that’s July 2026! Not bad if I do say so myself! We are so appreciative of everyone who shows up to help out, test things, leave feedback, and have conversations with one another! We’re better together! Meet back here again at the end of August? Deal! Thank you so much!

Weekly Recap | July 30, 2026

Hello! Thanks for stopping by! This is our last Recap of July this year! Can't even believe it! The weeks start comin' and they don't stop comin'. Recaps don't stop, either. And while it's been kind of a slow seven days, it just wouldn't be Thursday without a Recap. So let's gooo!

NEWS AND ISSUES

  • old.reddit.com now requires a login.

  • Just a reminder that Reddit does not provide support outside of Reddit. If some rando sends you a chat, be on high alert if you decide to reply. There are a lot of scams out there and they're looking for easy targets.

  • The most recent version of the app is 2026.29.0 2026.30.0.

BUGS ROUNDUP - COURTESY OF ME!

  • Not a whole lot of new things popping up this past week. But if you have something, feel free to let me know!

  • Some users in the EU are unable to use Anonymous Browsing mode. This is not intentional. This is a bug that they are working on getting fixed.

  • 751 posts. That's almost half the posts from from the 1,411 that we had last week. That's kinda interesting.

  • 3,783 comments. That's down 352 comments from the 4,235 we had last week.

  • 1.2m views. That's up about 163k views from the 1.1-ish million views we had last week.

Posts are way down, comments are a little down, views are up. I hope this means that people are finding the help that they need easier without needing to create their own post. That'd be great!

HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - PASSWORD RESETS

I'm thinking about trying something different here in the coming weeks. I'd like this section to be a little more interactive, so if you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them! In the meantime, let's talk about password resets.

If you ever need to reset your password, there are a couple of ways that you can go about it. If you are able to access the account and know the previous password, you can go into your settings on the desktop site here and/or on old Reddit here to enter your current password and your new password to change it.

If you do not know the password and/or you are not able to access the account and you want to change the password, you will need to request a password reset. A password reset can only be sent to the email that is on the account. It is extremely important that you have access to the email address that is on your account. If you have not yet added an email address to your account, we recommend that you do so now. If you no longer have access to the email that is on your account, we recommend that you change it now. The email address does not have to be verified in order to receive a password reset email.

You can request a password reset email be sent at any time by going to https://www.reddit.com/password/. Enter your email address or username and a password reset will be sent to the email on your account.

If you are in an area where you can create a Reddit account with a phone number, you should consider also adding a password to your account. That way, if you ever don't have that number or don't have that phone, you'll still be able to access your account. You can learn more about adding a password to an account created with a phone number here.

If you are requesting a password reset, but are not receiving the email, it's possible that the email is going into a spam folder, so you'll want to check in there. It's also possible that the email address that you think is on the account is not and it's actually a different email address. If you're not sure what accounts are associated with your email address, you can use the process outlined in this Help Center article to have all usernames associated with a particular email address sent to that email.

If you are clicking the link in the email and getting an error message, please try copying the link and pasting it into the address bar of your browser and that should work better. There is a limit on the number of password reset email that you can request in one day, so if you've hit the limit, you'll need to wait about 24 hours before you can try again. We are unable to reset the timer.

Please note that Reddit will not change the email address on your behalf if you no longer have access to it. The exception to this is if your account is hacked and the email address is changed by an unauthorized party. Reddit will also not add an email to your account if you have not added one and then need to reset your password. This includes if you have been logging in with your phone number and never added an email to your account. Without an email address on the account, we have no way of knowing or verifying who the account belongs to.

When choosing password, it's important to pick a strong password that is difficult to guess. You may want to consider using a short phrase or several words that are easy for you to remember, but not easy for other people to guess. Avoid choosing a password that is your username or something like "password" or "1234". Even "1234567890" isn't secure! Crazy!

Weekly Recap | July 23, 2026

It's Thursday again! And it's our first Thursday in a while where the World Cup hasn't been going on! Congratulations to Spain for their victory over their formidable opponent, Argentina. I guess I'll just have to fill my spare time with the Recap! Let's see what we've got going on this week!

NEWS AND ISSUES

  • There is an experiment where the "saved" and "history" tabs have moved from the Settings menu next to "Posts" and "Comments". So if you can't find your saved stuff, check there!

  • This was announced last week, but awards have been moved to the overflow menu for posts. Posts were made here in this sub and over in r/bugs about this change.

  • If you are trying to use a selfie to verify your age and it fails, the only other options are to upload your ID or contact Persona for support. Reddit cannot help you with a failed selfie for age verification purposes. If you need to have something fixed regarding your age, you can use this form and then select your region and what your issue is. I do not know what the turnaround time is on those requests.

  • Just a reminder that Reddit does not provide support outside of Reddit. If some rando sends you a chat, be on high alert if you decide to reply. There are a lot of scams out there and they're looking for easy targets.

  • The most recent version of the app is 2026.29.0.

BUGS ROUNDUP - COURTESY OF CORRECTSCALE!

  • [Android] Some folks are getting authentication errors when they log into the Reddit app. This is being looked into.

  • [iOS] In some mod queues, some of the content may not clear after you've swiped to approve it. Pulling to refresh the queue will bump these approved posts out of view in the meantime. We're taking a look!

  • [Desktop web] Some mods are unable to change some users' flair. This is also being looked into.

  • [Mweb] The updated comment box returned with a few bugs. A few fixes were just released, so this should be working better now. Appreciate everyone who reported the issues with this.

  • [iOS] Some VoiceOver users on iOS are unable to delete comments. This is being looked into!

  • BUG FIX [Android] The subreddit feed failing to load when going out of posts has been fixed.

  • BUG FIX [Android] Profile display names failing to appear in dark mode has been fixed. If this is still happening for you, please update your app.

  • BUG FIX [iOS] Community rules not being able to be updated by mods due to a loading error has also been fixed!

  • Some users in the EU are unable to use Anonymous Browsing mode. This is not intentional. This is a bug that they are working on getting fixed.

  • 1,411 posts. That's up 259 posts from the 1,152 that we had last week.

  • 4,235 comments. That's down only 92 comments from the 4,327 we had last week.

  • 1.1m views. That's down about 54k views from the 1.1-ish million views we had last week.

HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - NOTIFICATIONS

Reddit is huge. And it has a lot of moving parts. One of those parts is notifications. You can change the settings for the various types of notifications to receive or NOT to receive.

On the apps, tap your profile avatar, tap Settings, tap Account Settings at the the top, then scroll down a bit and tap "Manage notifications".

On the desktop, click your profile avatar, click Settings at the bottom and then click the Notifications tab. That will take you here.

From your notification settings, you can choose between "All on", "Inbox only" or "All off". Settings that you change on either platform will be respected across devices/platforms for your account.

If you are receiving notifications and you have them turned off, the most likely culprit is that you have another account and those notifications are turned on. If this is happening, please log into your other account and adjust those notifications to how you'd like them. If you do not know what other accounts you have, you can use the forgotten username tool at this link to have the usernames associated with a particular email address sent to you. If you feel that you need a password reset for any of your accounts, please click here and we’ll send you a link to the email on the account to reset your password.

If you never want a single notification from Reddit on your app, you can go into the app settings on your device and block the notifications that way.

Your request has been granted. Now what?

Hi! TheOpusCroakus here! Stopping by to talk about Redditrequest! More specifically, I’m here to talk about what you can do after you’ve been granted a sub through Redditrequest!

You found the sub. You made the request. Your request was granted! Congratulations! As the new mod, where do you start? Good news! There’s a lot to choose from! Bad news! There’s a lot to choose from! Let’s take a look at some areas you may want to get to sooner rather than later.

  • There is this awesome downloadable guide to reviving a community that is truly an amazing resource for this sort of thing.
  • And if you’re completely new to moderating, you’ll also want to check out r/newmods. You can even do that while you wait for your request to be reviewed.
  • If the sub has been abandoned for a while, there’s a decent chance that there is some spam or off-topic posts in the feed (which may have been why you wanted to request the sub in the first place). Doing some cleanup is a great place to start. You can also check for things like old pinned posts from previous mods that you probably want to remove. (You can replace them with your own pinned post if you’d like!) You may also want to take a look through the banned user list and decide how you’re going to handle that. (Sometimes, folks get a little heavy handed!)
  • Check your mod queue and your mod mail and see what’s going on in there. It could be pretty interesting!
  • Review the community rules. Are there any? Lol If not, you get to start from scratch and create new rules to help your community run smoothly. If there are already rules in place, do you want to keep them? Clarify them? Ditch them altogether? The choice is yours! You can read more about adding Community Rules here
    • Fun little side note about rules: When the rules are positive, it tends to encourage positive engagement.

  • You can style the community however you want! Make it yours so that it really stands out! Add a banner! Add an icon! Add a description! There’s a whole section in the Help Center on Community Styling!
  • Make a welcome post! Let the community know that there’s a new sheriff in town! A welcome post is a great way for you to introduce yourself, but it’s also a great way to highlight new rules or remind folks of old rules that were or were not being followed and/or enforced.
  • Depending on the size and activity level of the sub that you have just taken over, you’ll want to consider if you need additional moderators. Maybe you know someone who would be a good fit. Or maybe, there’s someone in the community who is already super helpful and would be a good mod.
  • Speaking of help with moderation, consider some bots! There are a lot of Devvit apps out there that really make life a lot easier when they’re on your mod team.

For those of you who have taken over a sub through Redditrequest, where did you start? What sort of things did you do after being given the keys to the kingdom? Which Devvit apps do you recommend mods install?

Weekly Recap | July 16, 2026

Welcome to Thursday! I guess the World Cup continues! I'm now rooting for Argentina because they beat England. (I had been rooting for England because they beat Norway, who beat Ivory Coast, who beat little Curacao. Man, this has been going on for a while.) You know what else has been going on for a while? These Recaps! Here we go again!

NEWS AND ISSUES

  • Awards have been moved to the overflow menu for posts. Our friend u/sticksfigured made a post here in this sub and here over in r/bugs about this change.

  • Had some reports of folks not being able to log in using Chrome in incognito mode. I was able to reproduce this and flagged it to the correct team. If this is happening for you, you can log into old Reddit and then switch over. And if you're getting the "Blocked by network security" error, you can refresh the page to see if that helps.

  • In case you missed it last week, there's a new Changelog out and you can read it here.

  • If you are trying to use a selfie to verify your age and it fails, the only other options are to upload your ID or contact Persona for support. Reddit cannot help you with a failed selfie for age verification purposes.

  • If you need to have something fixed regarding your age, you can use this form and then select your region and what your issue is. I do not know what the turnaround time is on those requests.

  • The Home Feed experiment continues. There's a "For You" feed and a "Following" feed. The For You feed has subreddit recommendations. The Following feed is just your subscriptions.

  • The above experiment has recently been enabled for users of the iOS beta app. So if you're suddenly seeing this and you are using the iOS beta app, that's likely why. (If you're suddenly seeing it and are not on the iOS beta app, it's likely that the other groups were shuffled around.)

  • If your account is in this experiment, there isn't the option to turn off recommendations because there's the dedicated Following feed instead. Feel free to mute subs you don't want to see if you're in the For You feed.

  • Thanks to the feedback that was left by several users, there are now two different versions of this experiment. One versions does not remember your preference and the other will remember your home feed selection for 12 hours.

  • I do appreciate everyone who has left constructive feedback about this experiment. I share it all! Please note that (as mentioned below), experiments tend to go about 4-6 weeks.

  • Just a reminder that Reddit does not provide support outside of Reddit. If some rando sends you a chat, be on high alert if you decide to reply. There are a lot of scams out there and they're looking for easy targets.

  • The most recent version of the app is 2026.28.0.

BUGS ROUNDUP - COURTESY OF CORRECT SCALE!

  • [Android] Some Android users are reporting that display names are not appearing on profiles in dark mode. The fix for this will be in next week's app release!

  • [iOS] Clicking a comment reply from a notification may open the post instead of going to the comment itself. The fix for this will also be in next week's app release!

  • [iOS] Some users are reporting not being able to play videos in full screen. This is being investigated.

  • [iOS] Some mods have been unable to edit their community rules. This is also being looked into.

  • [iOS] Some Reddit links shared in mod notifications may send folks to the subreddit feed instead of the linked content. Fix for this is getting worked on!

  • BUG FIX [iOS] Some non-mods were seeing mod-only prompts in communities they don’t moderate. Something else was causing this, so that thing got rolled back. If this is still happening, try force stopping and restarting the app and that should do it!

  • Some users in the EU are unable to use Anonymous Browsing mode. This is not intentional. This is a bug that they are working on getting fixed.

  • 1,152 posts. That's down 373 posts from the 1,529 that we had last week.

  • 4,327 comments. That's up 365 comments from the 3,962 we had last week.

  • 1.1 views. That's down just about 89k views from the 1.2m views we had last week.

More comments and fewer posts sounds like folks finding the help they need without creating a duplicate post!

HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - OFFICIAL COMMUNICATION FROM REDDIT AND SCAMS

From time to time, Reddit will need to communicate with users. When this happens, the account that is speaking for Reddit in an official capacity will have some sort of "admin" designation next to the username. If you look at my profile, it has a little orangered Snoo head/silhouette next to it. That's how you know!

If you get some sort of sketchy communication, like a chat, from someone claiming to be an admin, check to see if they have that little Snoo next to their username. A sketchy communication can come in the form of "suspension" message or a giveaway or a number of other creative options to get your attention. If that's not there and they're claiming to be an admin, then the cake is a lie.

Some clear signs of inauthentic communication are chat requests that are just "Can I ask you a question?" Or "Are you available to discuss a serious concern?" Please ignore those requests. Nothing good will come of it! lol (Also, "Can I ask you a question?" IS a question. But I digress.)

Please don't click any links in any communication from someone claiming to be an admin that does not have that little Snoo head or the [A] on their profile! If you receive a message from someone claiming to be an admin and you're just not sure, feel free to create a post in this subreddit and include a screenshot of the message that you received and it will be looked at. There's no harm or shame in double-checking if something is what it claims to be! Better to be safe than sorry!

Reddit will also NEVER ask another user to contact you about your account. Reddit will also not reveal the username of a user who made a report against another user. If you are presented with this sort of information from another user, it is a scam. Please do not engage with them and instead, report them!

And remember that Reddit does not provide support for Reddit accounts on other platforms! If someone contacts you and claims that they've had their account "fixed" by going to another site that rhymes with Bisbord and contacting someone there, that is part of their scam! We fix things here! Not on Bisbord!

And speaking of fixing things, if you do have a momentary lapse of reason and end up falling for one of these scams, we can help! File a ticket for a hacked account and it will be reviewed.

Weekly Recap | July 9, 2026

Welcome to Thursday! The World Cup is seemingly never-ending (unless you're the US) and I continue to root for my new team, the Norwegians! Go fjords! Another thing that's never-ending is the help that helps in r/help. Let's see what went on last week in r/help and on Reddit!

NEWS AND ISSUES

  • There's a new Changelog out and you can read it here! Highlights include:

  • A trending communities module when you click on the search bar.

  • Users of old Reddit will soon be required to log in to use that version of Reddit.

  • There's an updated post composer on iOS and Android.

  • I mentioned these last week, but there are changes to teen accounts in the EU.

  • There are some updates for large screen Android devices like a left-side navigation bar, media viewing improvements, better width constraints for bottom sheets, improved camera previews, and improved navigation for when using keyboard and mouse inputs.

  • For mods, there is the expanding testing of verified profiles for businesses and organizations.

  • The Changelog also has a ton of bug fixes that include:

  • Fixed Bug: [Web] Wiki revision history was incorrectly attributing edits to deleted user. This is mostly fixed, but still exists on the automod edit history page. But that's being worked on! Look for it in the next Bug Fix Recap! lol

  • Fixed Bug: [Web] The X-axis labels on the mod insights page now display correctly.

  • Fixed Bug: [Web] The banned user list was returning an error in some communities, but now, mods can access and view banned user lists as expected.

  • Fixed Bug: [Web] In some communities, mods were unable to edit recurring scheduled posts if there were more than three, but the full list of recurring scheduled posts can now be edited.

  • Fixed Bug: [iOS] The search bar was not registering when using VoiceOver for some users, but those users can now tap the search bar as expected.

  • Fixed Bug: [iOS] When adding an image to a comment reply, the reply context would sometimes create a standalone comment, but not anymore!

  • Fixed Bug: [iOS/Android] Some posts were incorrectly displaying with double spacing, but they now display with standard spacing across the apps.

  • Fixed Bug: [Android] Talkback was failing to read out the header information for some comments, but that is now working correctly.

  • Fixed Bug: [Android] The speed read button was not appearing on certain posts that were archived or locked, but you can speed read once again!

  • As mentioned last week (and sort of above), if you are in the EU, you may be asked to verify your age. This is a legal requirement to comply with the EU Digital Services Act. You can check out the Help Center article here. Little more info about this here.

  • The Home Feed experiment is still going on. There's a "For You" feed and a "Following" feed. The For You feed has subreddit recommendations. The Following feed is just your subscriptions.

  • If your account is in this experiment, there isn't the option to turn off recommendations because there's the dedicated Following feed instead. Feel free to mute subs you don't want to see if you're in the For You feed.

  • An alternate variant was added to this experiment a few weeks ago thanks to the feedback that was left by several users. One variant does not remember your preference. The other will remember your home feed selection for 12 hours.

  • Feel free to continue to leave constructive feedback about this experiment. I share it all with the team in charge and will provide updates when I have them.

  • Just a reminder that Reddit does not provide support outside of Reddit. If some rando sends you a chat, be on high alert if you decide to reply. There are a lot of scams out there and they're looking for easy targets.

  • The most recent version of the app is 2026.27.0.

BUGS ROUNDUP - COURTESY OF CORRECT SCALE!

  • Some users in the EU are unable to use Anonymous Browsing mode. This is not intentional. This is a bug that they are working on getting fixed.

  • Translation options for some languages are currently unavailable for some folks. We replied to a post here about this. Reddit is in the process of improving/tweaking certain supported languages, so some language may be unable to be translated during this transition period.

  • [Android/iOS] There's an issue where subreddit mentions are not always shown as links in the wiki pages. This is being investigated.

  • [Android/iOS] Some mods have reported that the "editable" tab in the moderators list was giving a "Wow, such empty" error. This seems to be fixed, but we're continuing to look into what may have caused it.

  • [iOS] Opening some comment reply notifications is sending users to the post itself instead of to the specific comment thread. This one is being worked on!

  • BUG FIX [iOS] The issue where opening an external link in chat sent you to the home feed instead of the intended URL is no more! Fix is out this week in v27 of the app!

WEEKLY STATISTICS (BASED ON THE PAST SEVEN DAYS)

  • 1,529 posts. That's down 224 posts from the 1,753 that we had last week.

  • 3,962 comments. That's down 361 comments from the 4,323 we had last week.

  • 1.2m views. That's down about 84k views from the 1.3m-ish views we had last week.

HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - WHAT'S A CHANGELOG?

Since there's a new Changelog out, I thought it would be a good time to go over what that is!

Look, I know that not everyone is a fan of change, but sometimes, things change! Whether or not those changes are for better or for worse is often up for debate. But the point is, generally once a month, Reddit publishes a Changelog with highlights of the most important changes that happened on Reddit over the past month. The format is easy to read and often will include links to additional information.

When there is a new Changelog, it will be posted and stickied right here in r/help. It will also often be crossposted reposted to r/bugs and r/modsupport

You can see the history of our Changelogs in the Help Center here.

HELPINGEST HELPERS HELPING HELP R/HELP

We're still working through some issues with the ReputatorBot becoming self-aware and doing things we'd rather it not do (Bad bot!), but we're still shouting out the many folks who have been helping in so many different ways in r/help over the past week!

  • u/westcoastcdn19 - Thank you!

  • u/thepottsy - Thank you!

  • u/formerqwest - No incorrectly marked nsfw account is safe with you on the case! Thank you!

  • u/IKIR115 - Thanks for the help! You've leveled up TWICE and now have the Helper Level Two and Three trophies on your account! They look great!

  • u/Old_One_I - Always a pleasure! <3

  • u/tumultuousness - Thank you!

  • u/ChimpyChompies - Thank you!

  • u/Charupa- - Thank you!

Monthly Recap | June 2026

Hello! Welcome to the June edition of the Monthly Recap, where I briefly recap our Mod Topics posts on the moderation discussions that were posted for the month. Helper flair has also been updated!

June Discussion and Support threads

Let’s take a look back at our weekly series of moderation-focused discussion topics that happened in June. We are always open to suggestions for future topics, so feel free to throw ideas out there!

June 2: How does your mod team connect with similar communities?

Your sub is unique, but there may be other communities with similar or adjacent topics. How do you find them? And when you do, do you connect with them? If you do, then what? Everyone’s favorite techie had those questions and more to start off the month!

June 4: How does your community use data to inform your decisions?

u/techiesgoboom boomeranged back with a question about how data influences the decisions that you make within your community. What available data do you use and how do you use it?

June 9: Moderating fame

u/JabroniRevanchism is kind of a big deal, They were able to ditch the paparazzi long enough to ask how folks moderate when a “celebrity” or other well-known user stops by your community!

June 11: Specialists

You should really have someone take a look at that for you. Oh, wait! DIFFERENT kind of specialists here! u/JabroniRevanchism just taking over this week, this time to highlight the many different kinds of skill sets that moderators have and use when moderating their communities.

June 16: If you could host a session at Mod World, what would it be?

u/iceeypisces took some time away from planning Mod World (It’s October 24th! Save the date!) to see what you’d like see YOU host at Mod World! How great is that?! Proposals can still be submitted here. Tell us what

June 18: Origin stories: What were you like as a user before becoming a mod?

What a treat! u/AsteriskRX checked in with Origin Stories: Part Deux. Back in May, we asked about your origin story for how/why you became a mod. And this topic is the prequel! What were you like as a user when you were not a mod? Did you lurk? Did you shitpost? Everyone has to start somewhere!

June 23: How do you craft posts to start conversations in your community?

u/aparapato returns! They crafted a post to start a conversation about crafting posts to start conversations! An excellent demonstration of the technique!

June 25: What makes a good report reason?
Ok, now u/aparapato is just showing off! Twice in one week! This time, to tackle report reasons and ask the important questions like

  • How do you use custom Report Reasons?
  • What does a "perfectly written" Report Reason look like in your subreddit?
  • What’s your secret to encouraging users to choose the right report reason every time?

June 30 - All hands on deck - what events change how you moderate?

We wrapped up the month with u/techiesgoboom bookending their posts and asking what sorts of things make it so you change up your typical moderation processes. Do you plan ahead? What if it’s sudden? Great discussion about all aspects of sudden changes in your communities’ environments! And because techies wanted to end the month with a little extra, they also announced the Devvit app Flair Follower! Follow the flair wherever you go!

Moderator Share & Tell

It is now time for those who wish to do so to share and tell! Share your stories! Tell us your news! We want to hear it!

In last month's post, u/zuuzuu said their sub /r/canadanews hit 100k weekly visitors!

>I took it over in December, at which point it had been unmoderated for several years (there were things in the queue from 11 years ago) and had been closed to comments for more than two years, so we were really starting from scratch. As of today we're at 121,000 weekly visitors! Not bad for just under six months!

u/westcoastcdn19 reported steady growth in three of their subs! Gradual growth is always fun to see!

u/Oddie-hoodie369 said it was one of their best months! They built a Devvit app called Mod Recruit! It hit 45 installs and became one of the top posts on r/modsupport and r/devvit! How awesome is that? And they’ve been collecting feedback from mods for their next update! Thanks for building that, u/Oddie-hoodie369!!

Flair updates

User flair is assigned to the top 10% and top 25% of users who are consistently constructive in their replies to posts and comments in this sub over the course of the past twelve months. As of this post, these are your current flaired helpers.

Weekly Recap | July 2, 2026

Happy Thursday! It's been busy during the World Cup. Little Curacao has been eliminated! I was going to root for their ouster, Ivory Coast, but they have also been eliminated. So I guess now I'm Team Norway! Go fjords? It's also been a busy week on Reddit, so let's see what happened!

NEWS AND ISSUES

  • Passkeys are available for new accounts on Reddit! There is a new Help Center article here about what passkeys are and how to set them up. Currently, passkeys are only available for new accounts. YOU SHOULD STILL HAVE AN EMAIL ADDRESS ASSOCIATED WITH YOUR ACCOUNT IN CASE IT IS EVER LOCKED AS A SECURITY PRECAUTION AND YOU NEED TO RESET YOUR PASSWORD

  • To help keep communities safe from automated abuse, you may be asked to verify that there is a real person behind your username. There is a new Help Center article on how to verify you are a human when asked by Reddit.

  • Large screen Android devices (tablets, foldables) will now have the navigation buttons on the left-hand side of the screen.

  • In ongoing efforts to prevent abusive scraping and automated traffic, over the next month, Reddit will start requiring users to log in to use old Reddit. This was announced on Tuesday here.

  • If you are in the EU, you may be asked to verify your age. This is a legal requirement to comply with the EU Digital Services Act. You can check out the Help Center article here. Little more info about this here.

  • If you are trying to use a selfie to verify your age and it fails, the only other options are to upload your ID or contact Persona for support. Reddit cannot help you with a failed selfie for age verification purposes.

  • Right now, these are the countries that have age requirements:

  • Australia

  • The UK

  • Brazil

  • The EU

  • If you are not in those countries, but your account is unable to do certain things like chat, it may be due to Teen Safety restrictions. The ability to unlock settings in the iOS app if you're a teen will be coming soon. Not sure if that ability will come to Android.

  • If you need to have something fixed regarding your age, you can use this form and then select your region and what your issue is. I do not know what the turnaround time is on those requests.

  • Some users in the EU are unable to use Anonymous Browsing mode. This is not intentional. This is a bug that they are working on getting fixed.

  • The Home Feed experiment continues. There is now a "For You" feed and a "Following" feed. The For You feed contains subreddit recommendations. The Following feed contains only subreddits that you are subscribed to and users that you follow.

  • If your account is in this experiment, the option to turn off recommendations in your feed has been removed because there's the dedicated Following feed to view content from communities you are a part of. So you don't need to turn off recommendations! Just view the Following feed. If you're seeing subs you don't want to see for the brief moment before you have to switch over, you can mute those subs so that you never seen them or the content that's in them.

  • Due to the feedback that was left, this experiment has been changed slightly and there are now two variants. The one is the same as it was last week where you have to keep selecting what feed you want and there is not a way to save your selection. The other will remember your home feed selection for 12 hours.

  • As always, I appreciate those of you who leave constructive feedback for me to pass along to the team in charge of this experiment. Feel free to continue to leave feedback about this experiment.

  • There are still a lot of scams going around. Just a reminder that Reddit does not provide support outside of Reddit. If some rando sends you a chat, be on high alert if you decide to reply.

  • The most recent version of the app is 2026.26.0. If your app is not updated to the most recent version, it may not function properly.

PLEASE REPORT RULE BREAKING CONTENT

  • If you see content in r/help that breaks the rules of r/help, please use the report button. You do not need to engage with those users unless you're going to redirect them to where they can actually get the help that they're looking for. Reporting content that breaks the rules helps us keep r/help free of spam and off-topic posts, and that allows users who really need out help to more easily get it.

BUGS ROUNDUP - COURTESY OF CORRECT SCALE!

  • [Android/iOS] Some text strings were not being auto-translated correctly. Only happened once, but it got fixed!

  • [iOS] Opening external links in chat is sending some folks to the home feed instead of the intended URL. The fix for that will be out in v2026.27 of the app!

  • [iPadOS] There are reports of some of the navigation buttons not appearing after following a comment reply notification or returning to the home feed on the iPad for some users. This is being looked into and it should be fixed soon.

  • [Android] Some folks using Android were reporting that the speed read button wasn't showing on archived/locked posts posts. This should be fixed now, but if it's still happening for you, it will be fixed in the next update to the app.

  • 1,753 posts. That's up 286 posts from the 1,567 that we had last week.

  • 4,323 comments. That's a lot of comments, but it's down 1053 from the 5,376 we had last week. (Thanks, u/Aggravating_Pain7116 for the correction!)

  • 1.3m views. That's up around 61,000 views from the 1.3m-ish views we had last week.

What a week!

HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - APP ICONS!

You may have noticed that the icon on the app looks a little different! From time to time, Reddit may change the app icon to reflect something that's going on. And right now, that's the World Cup! Go Norway! So the icon on the apps is Soccer Snoo! (What's a good name for him? Snooccer? Cupoo? I got nothin.)

If you want additional icons to choose from, there are a whole bunch that come with a subscription to Premium.

You can read more about Reddit Premium here.

Weekly Recap | June 25, 2026

Happy Thursday! The World Cup continues and little Curacao is still in it! I wish them well in their matchup against the Ivory Coast today! I also wish us all well in r/help today as we go through what went down last week!

NEWS AND ISSUES

  • If you are in the EU, you may be asked to verify your age. This is a legal requirement to comply with the EU Digital Services Act. You can check out the Help Center article here. Little more info about this here.

  • There was a post in r/redditsafety here when age assurance hit the UK a while back. That post has some info about the verification process and why this is happening. A message about this change is currently working its way through the pipes to the millions of users who will be affected, so it should be showing up in an inbox near some of you soon!

  • There's an experiment running where chat is not available on old Reddit. If you're in this experiment, you'll have to switch to one of the other platforms to use chat at this time.

  • Speaking of chat, if you're using a physical keyboard with an Android device, the Enter key will send the chat and not start a new line. If you want to do a new line, Shift+Enter will get you there.

  • There are still a lot of scams going around. Just a reminder that Reddit does not provide support outside of Reddit. If some rando sends you a chat, be on high alert if you decide to reply.

  • The most recent version of the app is 2026.25.0.

COMMON ACCOUNT ISSUES

Common account issues can be found here. These are things like hacked accounts, NSFW accounts, suspended accounts, etc. I'm also including "Changes to Reddit" in this section as well.

BUGS ROUNDUP - COURTESY OF ME!

  • Little bit of weirdness Monday morning when some users were reporting their comments on their profile weren't visible. Fortunately, this was an easy fix and things were back to normal pretty quickly!

  • There was also a bug on mobile web where the comment box made a mess of everything. This was inadvertently caused by a separate experiment, and when that was turned off, all was right in the world again. Many thanks to u/PikaGoesMeepMeep, u/NookMouse, and u/Lost-friend-ship for their help with this!

  • 1,567 posts. That's up 73 posts from the 1,494 that we had last week.

  • 5,376 comments. That's a lot, but still down 709 comments from the 6,085 we had last week.

  • 1.3m views. That's down about 200k views from the 1.5m-ish views last week.

The increase in comments is most likely due to the feedback received about the home feed experiment.

HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - MORE HELP!

About a year ago, Reddit announced that users would have the ability to curate what is shown on their profile page. On the app, you can tap on your profile avatar and then tap on "Profile curation". On the desktop site, you can find this setting in your profile settings here.

You can choose how you want to curate your profile! You can hide all of your content, show all of your content, or customize what content shows on your profile. You can also choose whether or not to show nsfw content. There is even an option for making your follower count visible or not.

If you choose to hide all of your content, it will only be hidden on your profile. It will not be hidden on all of Reddit. If the latter was how it worked, your content would never be visible to anyone else on the site.

Please note that hiding all of your content does not mean that it will be hidden from moderators in subs that you participate in. Mods of a community have the ability to see everything on your profile for the next 28 days when you post, comment, edit a post or comment, send mod mail, request to become an approved user, or join a private community. After 28 days, the access goes back to your chosen setting unless you interact with that community again. Then your content is visible to the mods of that community again for the next 28 days.

The same thing happens when you comment on another Redditor’s profile. That Redditor will be able to view your content for the next 28 days.

The Help Center article for this feature can be found here.

Weekly Recap | June 18, 2026

Happy Thursday! Hope you've all been enjoying the World Cup! Nothing brings us all together like sports! I'm rooting for Curacao! No reason. It's just a tiny little place and I'm hoping for a Cool Runnings of soccer, I guess! It's a short week for those of us in the US, with tomorrow being a holiday for Juneteenth. So let's wrap things up with a bang and see what went on in r/help and on Reddit this past week!

NEWS AND ISSUES

  • We're trying something new in r/help! Similar to the way my favorite cousins in r/reddithelp do things, we have enabled the Devvit app, ReputatorBot. The goal here is to more easily track top helpers. This bot allows users to award a point to the user who has helped them out. There will be a leaderboard on the sidebar of the sub. Automod will comment on every post with the instructions for how to award a point to someone who has helped you out. Nothing else is changing! Nothing is going away! We're just trying it out to see how it works. I want those who help to have all the recognition! Many thanks to u/fsv for creating this Devvit app!

  • There is an experiment running that affects the home feed.

  • A lot of you took the time to share constructive feedback last week and I've been sharing it with the team in charge of that experiment, and I will continue to do so! They've already made a change to the experiment because of the feedback, so you're being heard!

  • There are still a lot of scams going around. Just a reminder that Reddit does not provide support outside of Reddit. If some rando sends you a chat, be on high alert if you decide to reply.

  • The most recent version of the app is 2026.24.0.

COMMON ACCOUNT ISSUES

Common account issues can be found here. These are things like hacked accounts, NSFW accounts, suspended accounts, etc. I'm also including "Changes to Reddit" in this section as well.

BUGS ROUNDUP - COURTESY OF CORRECTSCALE!

  • [Web] Chat wasn't loading , but that was fixed up pretty quickly! If you're still having trouble, please refresh the window and that should do it!

  • [All Platforms] Some comment automations that contain "report to queue" are not sending comments to be reviewed. This is being investigated.

  • [Android/iOS] Some mod-only emojis are showing up for non-mod users in some subs. This should be fixed up next week!

  • [Web] Timestamps were being duplicated yesterday morning (causing a coffee-less thepottsy to question all sorts of things), but that's been fixed!

  • There were also a few other bugs that were fixed last week!

  • [iOS] Replying to an existing comment that contained an image caused a new comment thread to be created. FIXED!

  • [iOS] The search bar on the home feed was not tappable for some folks using VoiceOver. FIXED!

  • 1,494 posts. That's up only 21 posts from the 1,473 that we had last week.

  • 6,085 comments. All on the Recap lol. jk That's up 2,310 comments from the 3,775 we had last week.

  • 1.5m views. That's up 300k views from the 1.2m-ish views last week.

The increase in comments is most likely due to the feedback received about the home feed experiment.

HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - MORE HELP!

Users come to r/help for help! But we can't have everything in here! So you may want to know about other subs that will have information about Reddit, using Reddit, and changes to Reddit!

  • Reddit status page - Large, site-wide borkings that affect the whole site are generally reflected on the status page. If Reddit isn't loading correctly for you, the status page is a good place to start!

  • Redditdev - This is a subreddit for discussion of Reddit's API and Reddit API clients. If you're using the API and need help, this is a great resource.

  • Reddit Help Center - The motherlode of help! There is a Help Center article for pretty much everything! It's always a great place to start if you need help!

  • r/reddit - The most official Reddit community of all official Reddit communities. Your go-to place for Reddit updates, announcements, and news. Occasional frivolity.

  • r/bugs - If something is buggin' out, check out r/bugs! It's not only a great place to find bugs that others have reported, but it's an excellent place to report your own bugs that you may run into! r/bugs is an admin-run subreddit.

  • r/redditsafety - r/redditsafety is a running log of actions taken to ensure the safety and security of reddit.com. Interesting stuff gets posted there, like the most recent Transparency Reports.

  • r/reddithelp - An unofficial, wonderful community, full of helpful helpers to get you the help you need! <3

  • r/newtoreddit - Another unofficial, equally wonderful community, with their own set of helpful helpers to help help out! <3

Weekly Recap | June 11, 2026

Hello! If it's Thursday, it must be time for the Weekly Recap! And we're hot off of Game Four of the NBA Finals last night! That was insane. I'm rooting for the Spurs, but that was incredible! I'm also rooting for a lot of help in r/help! Here's to hoping both of those end up being winners! Here's what's went on in r/help and around Reddit last week!

NEWS AND ISSUES

  • In case you missed it last week, you can read the latest Changelog here.

  • There are new iOS guidelines for NSFW content. If you're trying to view NSFW content in the reddit app on iOS, in order to comply with Apple Guidelines, the settings NSFW content are managed via the website. Please sign into reddit.com via your browser -> click your profile -> settings -> preferences -> View NSFW Content / Blur NSFW. Set those to your preference, then return to the app.

  • If you are in the UK, you will need to verify your age before viewing NSFW content. You can check out this post for more information, and this post for additional assistance.

  • There is an experiment running that affects the home feed. You'll now see a "For You" feed, which is a renamed version of the previous "Home" feed. It’s a personalized feed of content that contains posts from communities you’ve joined, personalized recommendations based on your interests and communities you’ve joined, and some ads. There is also a "Following" feed which strictly shows content only from the communities you’ve joined and users you explicitly choose to follow (plus ads). The Following feed will not contain any recommendations from Reddit based on your interests.

  • If your account is in this experiment, the option to turn off recommendations in your feed has been removed because there's the dedicated Following feed to view content from communities you are a part of. So you don't need to turn off recommendations! Just view the Following feed. At this point, there is not a setting for this feed and it defaults to "For You". Feel free to leave constructive feedback on this post and I'll share it with the team in charge.

  • There are still a lot of scams going around. Just a reminder that Reddit does not provide support outside of Reddit. If some rando sends you a chat, be on high alert if you decide to reply.

  • The most recent version of the app is 2026.23.0.

BUGS ROUNDUP - COURTESY OF CORRECTSCALE!

  • [All platforms] The banned user list was showing errors for mods in some communities. This was fixed on June 5th! Thanks to all who helped with this1

  • [Android] That issue that I mentioned last week about TalkBack not working properly had a fix go out with this week's update to the app. So if you're still having trouble, please update your app to the most current version.

  • [Android] There is an issue with bidirectional text for some users on Android. The cause has been identified and a fix will be going out soon!

  • [iOS] Sometimes when you reply to an existing comment with an image, it creates a new comment thread. The fix is ready for this one and will be going out with next week's update to the app!

  • [iOS] If you're using VoiceOver, sometimes you can't tap the search bar on the home feed. This will also be fixed in next week's app update! It's going to be an exciting week for the app! lol

  • 1,473 posts. That's up 127 posts from the 1,346 that we had last week.

  • 3,775 comments. That's only down 25 comments from the 3,800 we had last week.

  • 1.2m views. That's up about 59k views from the 1.2m-ish views last week.

Lookin' like our ol' self again! =D

HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - SO YOU THINK YOU'VE BEEN HACKED

Welcome to "So You Think You've Been Hacked"! The game you never want to play!

There are always going to be bad actors out there who are trying to steal your stuff. We've been over account security time and time again! But sometimes, people still aren't sure! Let's look at some ways you can determine whether or not your account has been compromised and what you can do about it!

  • Does your account have posts or comments that you didn't make?

  • Has your account upvoted or downvoted content that you didn't vote on?

  • Did you receive an email notifying you that your email has been changed?

  • Did you receive an email notifying you that 2fa has been enabled on your account?

  • Are you seeing logins in your account activity from places that you don't recognize?

All of the above are indicators that your account has been compromised! If you notice any irregularities, you should immediately change your password and log out of all sessions. You can use this link at any time to enter your username and request a password reset. Changing your password should log you out of all sessions, but if you'd like to be on the safe side, you can log in with your new password and head over to the account activity page here and scroll down to enter your new password and log your account out of everywhere.

If you get an email from Reddit informing you of an email change that you didn't make, there is a link in that email that you can click to change your email back!

If you get an email from Reddit informing you that 2fa has been set up on your account, you'll need to fill out this form. Under "What do you need assistance with?", please choose "Account help". Under "What type of account issues are occurring?", please select "Security problems" and then "I think my account has been hacked". Reddit will never enable 2fa on your behalf.

If you need to delete content that was made by the hackers, the easiest way to do that is to go to your profile in old reddit at old.reddit.com/user/USERNAME where you replace “USERNAME” with your actual username. Then you can just click “delete” under the content that you no longer want. We are unable to delete content on your behalf. Please make sure that you check your profile settings here, especially the “About description” and “Social links” tabs to correct any unauthorized changes there as well.

You should also strongly consider enabling 2fa. When 2fa is enabled, no one without access to the device that contains the authenticator will be able to use your account. For more information about Two-Factor authentication, please check out this help center article.

Weekly Recap | June 4, 2026

Welcome to Thursday! I hope you all have had a fabulous week so far and have something to look forward to in the coming days. You've stumbled upon yet another installment of the Weekly Recap, where I, TheOpusCroakus, recap the week that was in r/help and on Reddit. Let's see what's going on!

NEWS AND ISSUES

  • There is a new Changelog out and you can read it here. Highlights include:

  • Reddit Gaming experience rollout

  • Expanded shopping experience

  • Edge to Edge media

  • Anonymous Browsing update

  • Search trends in feed

  • Crosspost renamed to repost

  • [Mods] Post content type settings to reflect your community preferences

  • [Mods] Post ideas experiment for mods in new and emerging communities

  • [Mods] Crowd Control now in safety settings on Android

  • [Mods] Expanding availability of video in comments

  • The Changelog also has bug fixes! Notably, the following:

  • Bug: [All Platforms] Some users were seeing inflated chat notification badge counts The fix: Chat badges will now display an accurate number of notifications

  • Bug: [Android] The posts tab on some user profiles was displaying a “wow, so much empty” error for some mods despite the user having recent posts The fix: The profile post history tab now displays post history without error

  • Bug: [Android] The Top Members leaderboard was erroring out in some communities The fix: When users access the Top Members leaderboard within a community, the leaderboard will now display top members

  • Bug: [iPad] Swiping back out of a post to the feed would occasionally freeze the app The fix: Swiping back out of a post will will return users to the feed without freezing the app

  • Bug: [iOS] VoiceOver was not registering post body text The fix: VoiceOver registers body text as expected again. As a reminder, we released version 2026.21.1 which includes a fix for this bug. If you’re still experiencing issues with VoiceOver, please head over to the App Store and make sure to upgrade to version 2026.21.1 or above.

  • Please note that if you are in the UK, you will need to verify your age before viewing NSFW content. You can check out this post for more information, and this post for additional assistance.

  • iOS users may notice that the app has Liquid Glass. If you'd like to tone that down, you can try these steps:

    • Go to settings > accessibility > general > per-app settings: add Reddit and change options for Reduce Transparency & Reduce Motion to ON

    • Thanks so much to u/reddit33450 for these steps. Thanks!

  • There are still a lot of scams going around. Just a reminder that Reddit does not provide support outside of Reddit. If some rando sends you a chat, be on high alert if you decide to reply.

  • The most recent version of the app is 2026.22.0. If your app is not updated to the most recent version, it may not function properly.

  • EDIT - The edit post flair menu item is back in the queue! Thank you to u/SampleOfNone for highlighting this!

CURRENT EXPERIMENTS

Reddit sometimes runs experiments. These experiments tend to last between 4-6 weeks, though they can go longer or end sooner. While there isn't a way to opt out of experiments, feel free to leave constructive and specific feedback in this post and as I've mentioned about, I'll be happy to pass it along to the team in charge. Ongoing current experiments can be found here.

COMMON ACCOUNT ISSUES

Common account issues can be found here. These are things like hacked accounts, NSFW accounts, suspended accounts, etc. I'm also including "Changes to Reddit" in this section as well.

BUGS ROUNDUP - COURTESY OF CORRECTSCALE!

  • [Web] Some users had a horizontal scroll bar under posts. This was fixed up pretty quickly yesterday, but if you're still having trouble, please close Reddit and relaunch in a new tab.

  • [iOS] Some iOS users were experiencing back swiping to return you to the feed not working within a post. This has been fixed in version 2026.22 of the app, so if you're still having trouble, please update the app!

  • [iOS] There was a bug with VoiceOver where it wasn't reading the contents of the post. This has been fixed, so if you're still having this issue, you'll want to upgrade to version 2026.21.1 or above.

  • [Web] There are some reports of users having trouble adding Devvit apps to their communities. We're having a hard time reproducing this on this end, though it still continues to be investigated. If you are able to consistently reproduce this and can provide step-by-step instructions, that would be awesome.

  • [Android] Comment headers are not being read with TalkBack. This fix for this will be out with next week's update of the app!

  • 1,346 posts. That's up 124 posts from the 1,222 that we had last week.

  • 3,800 comments. That's down just 166 comments from the 3,966 we had last week.

  • 1.2m views. That's up 231k views from the 969,000-ish views last week.

After a couple of slow-ish weeks, we're back on track!

HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - PROFILE CURATION

It used to be that all Reddit profiles were public and there was not a way to make them private. But profile curation has been a thing for a hot minute. You can read our announcement post here. There's also a Help Center article about this here. Profile curation is a fancy way of saying that you can now control what is shown on your profile. There should be a setting in your settings (good place for it!) here that you can use to customize what's seen on your profile.

Please note that profile curation only applies to your profile and your content stays visible in communities. So just because it isn't visible on your profile, that doesn't mean that it isn't available on Reddit. Mods of communities you participate in and other users whose profile posts you engage with can still see your full profile. There is not a way to hide everything that you do from everyone on Reddit because that wouldn't make any sense. lol Though if you don't want anything to be visible to anyone else, don't post or comment! lol

Monthly Recap | May 2026

Hello! Welcome to the May edition of the Monthly Recap, where I briefly review our Mod Topics posts on the moderation discussions that were posted this month. Helper flair has also been updated!

May Discussion and Support threads

Let’s take a look back at our weekly series of moderation-focused discussion topics that happened in May. We are always open to suggestions for future topics, so feel free to throw ideas out there!

May 5: What does a good ban appeal process in your community look like?

  • Bans happen, but then what? Fortunately, u/sodypop asked that question and many of you replied with how you handle it when a user appeals their ban.

May 7: Origin stories - Why did you become a mod?

  • Everyone’s loudest techie, u/techiesgoboom, asked the question we’ve all been wondering - Why did you become a mod? techies conveniently left out their own origin story, but y’all more than made up for that by sharing so many of your own!
    • We really enjoyed this quote from u/Bardfinn, “It’s not enough to point out a fire. Someone has to put it out. Someone has to think it’s their job to.”
    • We also were fond of u/yellowmix’s quote, “"The place in which I’ll fit will not exist until I make it."

May 12: When  mod teams decide to restrict certain topics temporarily for a healthier community

  • A wild u/aparapato appears! And they wanted to talk about when it’s time to slow your roll in your communities!

May 14: What have you learned this year?

  • We’re only mid-way through May, but that doesn’t mean that things haven’t been learned! And u/techiesgoboom came back to ask about those things!

May 19: What Devvit apps does your team use and why?

  • u/Togapr33 stopped by to ask about how y’all are using the Devvit apps. Reading about all of the different ways to use the different Devvit apps was really thought provoking! Stop by any time, u/Togapr33!

May 21: Help new mods out and drop advice now!

  • What’s this? A surprise appearance by u/iceeypisces?? YES! Stopping by to hype the New Mod Bootcamp and ask how you attracted and engaged new community members after you built your new community!

May 26: What are some of the official admin spaces on Reddit to support mods?

  • Who’s up next? Oh, hai! It’s me, u/TheOpusCroakus, stopping by to drop off more support resources for mods! If it’s help-related, you know I'm going to be involved somehow! lol

May 28: Where do mods get support from other mods?

  • One more time for u/JabroniRevanchism! What do mods know and where did they learn it? These were among the questions posed!

Moderator Share & Tell

Once again, we’ve come to the part where we want to hear from you! Tell us about something that happened in your community in May! It could be an event, a change, a post, a conversation, anything! Like last month, u/GigglesNWiggles10 told us that they had not one, but TWO AMAs scheduled! They booked EMELINE and Marielle Kraft, two niche pop artists. Pretty cool! I hope they show up to tell us how it went!

Flair updates

User flair is assigned to the top 10% and top 25% of users who are consistently constructive in their replies to posts and comments in this sub over the course of the past twelve months. As of this post, these are your current flaired helpers.

Weekly Recap | May 28, 2026

Happy Thursday! It was a short work week here in the US with Monday being Memorial Day. But now it's Thursday (even though it feels like Wednesday) and we're going to try to remember what happened last week in r/help and on Reddit! Let's get to it!

NEWS AND ISSUES

  • The Mod Tools Hackathon concluded yesterday! Mad props to all who participated! I can't wait to see what was created!

  • iOS users may notice that the app has Liquid Glass. If you'd like to tone that down, you can try these steps:

    • Go to settings > accessibility > general > per-app settings: add Reddit and change options for Reduce Transparency & Reduce Motion to ON

    • Mad props to u/reddit33450 for these steps. Thanks!

  • There are still a lot of scams going around. Just a reminder that Reddit does not provide support outside of Reddit. If some rando sends you a chat, be on high alert if you decide to reply.

  • The most recent version of the app is 2026.21.0.

  • [iOS] When you swipe out of a post to return to the feed, it's not doing what it's supposed to be doing. The cause is known and a fix is in the works!

  • [iPad] When going out of a post back to the home feed, some iPad users are experiencing the app freezing. When backing out of a post to the home feed, some users are seeing the app freeze. The fix will be out with next week's version of the app. Until then, you can tap on another tab, like inbox or profile, and then tap on Home again. That should do it most of the time.

  • [Web] Some users are not able to edit flair from the mod queue. Turns out, this only happens when in split view! If you exit the split view, the flair option returns! Fix is coming for this one soon!

  • [iOS] VoiceOver is not reading body text correctly in posts for some folks. They figured out why it's doing this and a fix is in the mix! Hopefully soon!

  • 1,222 posts. That's up 73 posts from the 1,149 that we had last week.

  • 3,966 comments. That's down 370 comments from the 4,336 we had last week.

  • 969,000-ish views. That's down about 131k views from the 1.1-ish million views last week.

I'm hoping people are getting out and enjoying the lovely weather that has emerged in many areas!

HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - HOW TO BE YOUR OWN HERO AND TROUBLESHOOT ISSUES

I'm going to go over some things you can do other than creating a post if Reddit isn't working properly for you! There's a lot of different things that can go wrong, so there are a lot of things that you can try!

  • I like to start with force stopping and restarting the app or refreshing my browser window. Sometimes, the ol' "Have you tried turning it off and back on again?" is just what you need!

  • Next, you could check r/help or r/bugs and see if there are other posts about the issue that you're having. You could also check to see if there is a stickied post that is announcing a particular issue.

  • If you can't get to the site at all, that's more indicative of something wrong with the site itself and not necessarily your account. That's what it's a good idea to check the Reddit Status Page or something like Down Detector.

  • It is very likely that at least one of those things will give you some idea as to why you are experiencing the issue that you are. If you see other posts that are the same thing and the site is down, it isn't necessary to make another post about the issue.

  • It's super frustrating when things don't work properly, but that's the most important time to remain calm and remember the human. There are actual people behind screens and keyboards.
