So that's why my pessenger window..

Hey guys it's me again. The guy with the door harness projects haha.

Thought I share this. Common issue of course.

Bought that part new. Still going to overhaul the 1998 one.

Did the same to the pessenger button/control.

I didn't expect that. As it's a Sunday cruiser. Garage.. 1998 model (but lots of kilometers on the car).

Anyway. Some might remember my postings about my harness overhaul recently. Iam on the driver side now. No rust on this side, happy. Wiring needs a bit of love tho. Found this circuit burns on that way and thought it'd good posting it for reference.

Also worth mentioning. If you want to remove that top cover, unscrew the 4 bolts, and lift it slowly. There are 3 springs in there that you don't want to loose. Inspect the part closely and take some photos helps.👌

That's one of the origin topics about the process. Maybe some pictures worth looking at for people interested.. Deeper in the conversation/replies.

I want to add an important point that i really hate seeing when people remove that window control panel. Instead of messing with unclip tools and whatnot to unclip it (mirror side/front lifts first!) just remove the whole door card. Hold it with one arm/hand. Grab inside, unplug the 2 Plugs (mirror/window) and your door light (plug below) . And just then remove that control unit from the separated door panel itself. You Don't even have to remove your upper speaker/tweeter for that. Just wiggle the door card up a bit after you removed the 3-4 screws and unpopp it from the Clips. (of course you have to remove the door handle cup and bezel). I mean it's work, yes. But i just hate to use my unclip tools on that part. It is always a risk.

I always see MR2s with the ugly traces of unclip tools right above the mirror control area. Or that typical broken rear tab that we all love haha.

I know the weakpoints.. So why?

So what can I say.

I postet a couple days ago about my overhaul of the harness, rust removal, new trims, new mirror seal triangle all that crap.

Iam used to All this stuff. There is almost no part on That car that I didnt work on already. Including full engine built and whatnot.

Of course. Once again I got new tweeter housings.

I know these little suckers in and out.

Removed my old ones as Usual. Placed the new one, lower clips first, of course carefully, then align the upper grommet/clip push slightly.

AAAnd klackk, gone!

I mean seriously. I didn't even put any force on it, as we all know these annoying parts.

Even tho ordered new, this must be 30y old. I have no other explanation for how brittle this crap is.

I removed and clipped on dozens of those. So Iam pretty pissed.

I will have to think about a reinforcement print for those little plastic noses.

Question about Front hood sealing

Hi everyone. I have a question about the surrounding seal on the engine bay/hood area.

Since I bought the car I always had it tucked in.

I realized it has a pretty big gap there letting water in where our alloy brace sits.

Should this go "over" the plastic shroud?

Not sure, something feels off with that part. Putting it "over" won't really hold/stay in place.

Shifter drop plate - experience and opinions?

Hey guys,

I bought a couple of parts to make little maintenance to the shifter cables.

I already use CRW bearings on both rear ends and the transmission pin roller bearing.

Great upgrade (and Iam taking about a new transmission that I bought back then)

On the stick itself I got the usual stuff. Now thinking again about the lowering plate.

The stock shifting wires are tilted upwards a bit. The lowering kit levels that. Question is - does this actually help?

I know the grassroots motorsports article bout that.

But want to hear experiences.

We all know that many of those "upgrades" are questionable most of the time.

(topic skate bearing vs spherical) and such.

I often had to find out the hard and expensive way.

Let me know your honest opinion.

How do i remove the Mirror plug?

My good reddit friends,
with the help of bitingantz video I was able to quickly disasemble the mirror.
This is a pure inspecting job, nothing broken.

But I want to remove the Cables. As you know, the main-Plug wont slip through the Metall part of the mirror, so we have to remove the Plugs on the Glas/motor side.
-How could i remove the heat plug tho?
I see kind of a black bracket that might only be glued to the Heat-mat.. lifting the grey Plug kinda doesnt feel right.....

How does this work? holding the black bracket right below the plug with a Flat-head Screwdriver and gently pull that grey Plug up?
please let me know, these parts are old, and i dont want to break something :)

I might be wrong tho about the Plug- But, it seems- because of the heating wires, the Plug i have is bigger then the one in his video. Thus I dont see a way to slip it out the main metall part, as we only have a tiny flat slot there.

I also see a tiny tiny white plug that goes INTO the gray mirror plug. maybe its even that guy. Seems to be really sitting there tight.

Iam bored

Found out that my pessenger window goes up slowly. Became a full Restauration project. The wires seem all in perfect condition. I depinned everything and used a cleaner and toothbrush for the pins.

Pessenger control works perfect. Still tho I went the long route. I know I have to do the same on the driver side. As I realized that controlling the pessenger window from there isn't performing very good (slow). So I assume a bad ground, bad wire, or contacts.

I discovered slight rust in the inner door. So that's what I adress on the next weekends.

I like working on my deuce.

It's a 1998 BTW. Delivered in 99.

1998 mk2 power window slow. 😭

I have a question about the power windows. Are there any aftermarket motors? As my pessenger side always was going up pretty slowly, almost coming to a stop, I once removed everything, cleaned away the old grease, re- lubricated everything. That was 15 years ago. Latley it really startet annoying me again. Could it be a bad motor? Broken harness? Such things are difficult to measure as far as I can tell. If I remember right, the wiring of the motor goes all the way to the driver side control panel too.

Digged out the manual for adjusting the windows, and might remove all over again, but somehow I still think it's something with the motor, or maybe tension on the mechanic parts giving the motor a hard time.

If you guys have any tips, experiences how to improve it.. Let me know please. I bet many here know these problem.

Boosted around the swabian alb last weekend. What a fun little beast. (stock paint from 1998 except the rear bumper) 😍

Took some photos of Hohenzollern castle too. Saw the starlink drop too plus the rocket venting fuel. Looked insane 🚀⛽ but was just to far. Even for that lens (600mm).
