My Strava 51km weekly streak is ending because of injury — how do you deal with setbacks?

Hey everyone,

For the last few months I’ve been keeping my 51km/week running goal going on Strava. It became a routine and something I was pretty proud of.

Unfortunately I got injured and I’m not going to be able to hit 51km this week. I know it’s the right thing to do, but honestly it’s been harder to accept than I expected.

Part of me is frustrated because I don’t want to lose the streak, but another part of me is kind of relieved to have a reason to rest.

Has anyone else had to deal with an injury ruining a streak or forcing you to slow down? How did you handle it?

What GPS setting do you use on your Garmin?

Just wondering what GPS signal people use on their Garmin watches.

I see options like:

  • GPS Only Uses the GPS satellite system only. Best battery life, usually fine in open areas.
  • GPS + GLONASS Uses GPS + Russia’s GLONASS system. More satellites, can help in some areas, but uses more battery.
  • GPS + Galileo Uses GPS + Europe’s Galileo system. Similar idea, often preferred over GLONASS by many users.
  • All Systems Uses multiple satellite systems together (GPS + GLONASS + Galileo, depending on watch). Better coverage/accuracy, more battery use.
  • All Systems + Multi-Band Uses multiple satellite systems plus dual-frequency signals. Best accuracy, especially around buildings, trees, mountains. Highest battery use.
  • Auto Select / SatIQ™ (newer Garmin watches) Automatically switches between modes:
    • GPS only when conditions are good
    • All Systems when needed
    • Multi-Band when it helps Tries to balance accuracy and battery.
  • UltraTrac Saves battery by recording less often. Less accurate, mainly for very long activities.

I’m mostly curious what people actually leave theirs on.

What do you guys use? Is one better for running accuracy? Does All Systems kill battery compared to GPS only?

I’m mostly curious what people actually leave theirs on.

Need help picking a bike, have no idea where to start ($500-$800)

Hey, I’m wanting to get a bike again but honestly have no clue what I should be looking for.

I know how to ride, I used to ride a lot as a kid, but it’s been like 10 years since I’ve had one. I’m looking for something mainly for roads but I’d also like to be able to do some light trails/gravel paths.

Budget is around $500-$800 CAD.

Not sure if I should be looking at a road bike, hybrid, gravel bike, etc. or what brands are good. I’ll mostly just be riding around town, parks, and maybe some longer rides.

Would appreciate any advice on what to look for, good beginner bikes, or if buying used is better. Thanks.

(live in Canada, so maybe something good for winter also, some kind of Swiss Army knife of bicycles) 😆
