[OC], Speculative future marsupial
An idea along with many I have had for quite a while, I'm trying to put together a project for what the world would look like in around 100 million years. This is one of my drafts, iterations are to be made.

- Age: *PLACEHOLDER NAME* (Novocenozoic), 100 Million yrs After present day
- Location: Almost all of the northern hemisphere with the largest species inhabiting the "Papuan plateau"
- Size: ranges from 4 metres (females) to 6 metres (males) and 3.2 (females) to 4.8 metres (females) high at the shoulder
- Diet: Herbivore, Grazer
Around 50 million years after present day, Oceania collided with what is currently Asia to form a great mountain range many kilometres high, similar to the Himalayas of today. By 100 million years AD, the northward movement of Australia and the warming planet has converted what was once a vast desert into a lush paradise of rainforest and tropical savannah, with some areas even becoming floodplains and river systems; akin to what we see in India today.
This would become home to forms such as the Vombison, a large herbivorous descendant of modern Australian marsupials; most likely the wombat. Weighing upwards of 5 tonnes for the largest species, they dominate the landscape, occupying a similar ecological niche to that of modern ungulates or hooved animal; like the bison and wilder beast. The smaller species have adapted to life in the forests and grasslands whereas the larger the species inhabit the higher altitude alpine or mountainous regions. The Vombison have even evolved hooves reminiscent of modern ungulates to traverse a wider range of terrain and dominate the landscape. Bergmanns rule, a phenomenon that affects species in colder environments, may explain the alpine species large size.
[OC], Carcinerpeton.carcinoides
Another iteration of one of my previous artworks called carcinerpeton. This is a descendant coming from the order anura which includes frogs and toads, where they had undergone carcinization; a process which turns many species of arthropods into crabs. Here, its legs have folded under its body and have slightly reduced in size, its digits have lengthened and have become the main mode of locomotion and its third and fourth digits have evolved to become larger raptorial appendages. It has also evolved salt glands and less permeable skin for the saline environment it now lives in.

This was supposed to be megalodon however it felt kinda off. What prehistoric shark do y'all think this would resemble more?

I just feel like the proportions of the head are kinda off, as in it ain't robust enough. I'll definitely do one again.
[OC] My Carcinised frog 🐸
Frogs in my opinion very superficially have a top down profile similar to that of certain decapods or crabs. So this got me thinking, what if frogs evolved to take the body plan of a crab. I am aware that tetrapod, vertebrates cannot be carcinised as this body plan is adopted mainly by decapods and other crustaceans however in the world of speculation, (almost) NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE!
This is Carcinerpeton, a genus whose name means 'crab crawler', and it has adapted its metatarsals in a way that each digit acts as its own limb, its arms have adapted to become claw-like and it's head has partially fused to its cervical vertebrae.
This is just a rough 'red print' sketch and this will definitely be a source of inspiration for my future works.

Speculative semi-aquatic unenlagiid [OC]
Since a few unenlagiids already seem to take up a somewhat semi-aquatic lifestyle, what if there was a completely semi-aquatic unenlagiid being similar to spinosaurus in its ecology.
I don't know if this would necessarily be paleoart so to save it I'm just going to put the genus down as:

Recently, a new unenlagiid has been discovered called 'Kank.australis'. This animal would have hunted near water similar to the austraraptor; another unenlagiid. This got me thinking, as lots of unenlagiids seem to take up a near shore semi-aquatic lifestyle, what if unenlagiids kept going in this direction and turned fully into a semi-aquatic animal. So I made some sketches of this hypothetical semi aquatic unenlagiid called 'Aquaraptor. Parapinguinus', meaning 'Water Thief alongside a penguin'. This has adapted special salt glands to filter the prey items it consumes, a more streamlined form and smoother feathers to make it more hydrodynamic and webbing on its feet for locomotion underwater.

Leaning into the sort of thing about spino having salt glands, I decided to draw one based on the colour of the gannet. I do need to work on the colouring thing as colouring and then shading is something that I slightly struggle with when it comes to making it look realistic and not 2D or cartoon like although these are very nice styles. Pls leave any feedback in the comments!

New thing I'm doing! [OC]
For a while, I've always wanted to do perhaps a project or something like it, focused on the ancient Tethys sea; an ocean that first appeared around 250 million years ago and closed up around 30 million years ago. This would have been a vast ocean with a whole host of weird and wonderful forms. So, I thought every Tuesday I would either make an artwork or create something themed around the Tethys.It would be good for me as well as it would be something that would keep me active.

This year a lot has happened and it wasn't just college with exams and everything but it was also finding out new things and me personally. There were lots of different things I tried to lock in on and this image above is an example. I wanted to draw the fauna of ancient south Korea however, I later found out about the true diversity of the south Korea fossil records and geologic history. There were also exams and lots of different things that got to me. However, I have been working on all of these things and will hopefully be back and active!
