Zach Gelb Is Decent Filling In For CMac With Carton

It's probably just the difference in styles. CMac tends to sit back and let Carton lead the discussion and then include him. Zach Gelb comes across as a lot more manic - jumping in when he wants rather than wait for an invite. For me, that makes for a better flow to sports talk. More of a discussion between people than mini set-pieces delivered like theater.

Tomorrow's Topic Will Be The Coming MLB Lockout

What Gio and lots of people thought would happen happened. Skubal to the Dodgers. Now the utterly disingenuous owners will use that as an excuse to propose a cap, not to save the game, but to have an excuse not to spend money. If owners are that level of failure, then they shouldn't own anything.

Suggestion For This Sub: Pinned Schedule

It would be really good to have the weekly FAN schedule pinned to the top of the page for easy viewing. I mean the actual schedule for that week's programming. Would be a very helpful thing.

Are We Heading For An Interesting Autumn?

I have no doubt that the Yankees will make the post-season. How far they'll get no one can predict, but they'll be there. It'll also be interesting to watch both of the NFL teams. People are most interested in how the Harbaugh Giants will do with Jaxson Dart. Big improvement or just steady improvement. I think fans would be happy with the latter. As for the Jets, I think Frank Reich running the offense is the proper move. I have no expectations that they'll be good, but I do expect them to be more entertaining than they were and possibly get some wins that'll surprise people.

All-in-all, I think it won't be a boring Autumn for fans and for the FAN. As for the Mets, any improvement will be after the season is over.

Enough With The Cancer Talk

I often defend the station and its shows because to each their own. However, the long segment about cancer when I want to listen to humorous sports talk was a bit depressing. Can Al Dukes tell them to cut that crap short?

Buttigieg On With Jen Psaki

He was making some great points about how Democrats speak and what they concentrate on. He was keen on saying Democrats should speak to the concerns of Americans and not dictate what they want those people to be concerned about.

During the interview I noticed Psaki's discomfort whenever "money in politics" came up. It's not the first time either. As someone who is not on the good side of the velvet rope of politics, it's not my concern who makes money or gets to go to the best restaurants and cocktail parties. The need of insiders to maintain their position doesn't matter to people who can't afford rent or groceries or a car. They don't matter to people who see the growing fascism in the US. I'm sorry, but Democratic power brokers keeping their power is not what matters to me.

For All The Complaints, WFAN Is Doing Very Well In The Ratings

Consistently 11 or 12 overall in NY for a format that isn't just pop music or nonstop news that relies on men. The afternoon show is up big. The thing that is terrific is that the midday is doing very well. Evan and Tiki are doing the exact kind of show that's needed between a morning and afternoon slot. Stick to the sports. Passion and knowledge.

People can complain all they want about individual moments or people or whatever, but the station is doing great right now. As long as the dayparts are filled with ads, it works.

Apparently Nothing Can Be Done About Street Takeovers

I called up the Fighting 111th Precinct here in NE Queens because last night in the vicinity of Cunningham Park was plain old insane. Not just noisy, but at a level I've never heard before with the squealing and spinning and exhaust eruptions. It must have gone on for a full 20 minutes with no hint of a siren anywhere to break it up. I got the usual PR remarks about how they're aware of it and there isn't much can be done about it, etc.

I just wonder about the psychology of the people doing it. Is it that they savor being disruptive? Is it some anger because life done them wrong somehow? Is it as simple as plain old main character syndrome - only they matter and everyone else is just there to observe them. Whatever it is, it's absolutely horrible. It's like graffiti except on my anxiety.

OK Already With The Fanaticsfest

I'd rather hear C-Lo give me the same clips I heard last hour than a 20 minute commercial for some event for rich drunks with too much income.

The Mamdani Disconnect Is Amazing

Knicks fans by a huge margin love the Mayor. New Yorkers seem to love the Mayor. Yet Boomer & Dolan and presumably a lot of rich people seem to either not notice that people like Mamdani, don't want to know that they do, or actively live in their own reality that everyone thinks like them.

I would say Boomer is probably delusional and thinks everyone is like him. Dolan is pretty much just a nasty jerk. A child who never grew up past the age of nine who sits with his arms tightly crossed because he didn't get the extra cookie he wanted. They guy's team wins the championship and he's still a jerk. That's some serious psychological baggage he's carrying.

NY Is United Behind The Knicks

It's one of those great moments when the city comes together - this time over something happy which is a nice change of pace. None of this crap where some fans act like they're the "real" fans and everyone else is jumping on. No one cares. Everyone is cheering. Everyone is celebrating. Everyone is together.

Leave that, "You're not a real fan," nonsense to the morons who no one likes.

So Which Long-Timers Are Left At The FAN?

The only one I know of is Arzooman who has done commercials forever and worked doing Somers bits. Anyone else?
