Why is the Grateful Dead so popular with doctors and lawyers?

Definitely doesn't feel like it's supposed to be the target demographic. Is it just hippies who went on to become professionals and hold on to their whimsical days by listening to a band?

Edit: Thanks for the thoughtful replies.

Announcement: AI Generated Content Is Now Banned on /r/gratefulguitar

Hey everyone,

With over 250 votes in my poll, and only 9 votes for the "pro" AI side... it would be pretty difficult for the pro AI side to make a comeback at this point. Here are the general guidelines for the new rule:

  1. Any image, video, or audio that is clearly AI generated is now banned. Music is a very human oriented experience.
  2. This does not include the use of AI to separate out tracks for backing track purposes. The music was created by humans, using technology for the purpose of practicing and becoming a better musician is a valid use of AI.
  3. Educational use of AI is permitted, assuming the content it provides is useful to a broad audience.

General rule of thumb: if it is slop, it's banned. If not, it's probably allowed.

Songs Of Our Own (#5) - "Althea"

In our "Songs of our Own" vote thread we had on this week, Althea had the most upvotes.

Here are the general rules and how to participate.

  1. Althea will be our "dedicated" song for the next two weeks.
  2. With the post flair "Songs of our Own" you can post anything related to Althea; that can be a lesson, jam, performance, tips, theory, a tab, etc.
  3. This is a free and open community. You do not have to participate in this and can still post whatever the hell you want as long as it's in the spirit of this sub. This is a totally optional effort to allow the community to connect for a bit on a particular song, bounce ideas off each other, and have a great time.
  4. We will vote again on a new song in 2 weeks.

Here are a bunch of backing tracks:

Have fun, can't wait to see what you all come up with!

Friendly Reminder - Moderator Feedback

Got this as feedback on a post yesterday that was posted by a Karma farming bot,

"Again, it's a repost bot that stole a post word-for-word and you haven't removed it in almost 6 hours. How many times is this shit going to be allowed to stay up before you dumbasses actually moderate this place"

If you have constructive feedback on the subreddit or how I can make this place better, please reach out to me directly in a chat. I will most likely respond or take down a post faster if done this way.

I understand there have been a lot of bots in here recently, but unfortunately for me, I am the only active moderator. I also have a full time job, have other hobbies, and I am often off the grid during the summer doing wilderness backpacking. I do this on my own free time to help make this a better, more welcoming community for everyone. Again, apologies if I occasionally miss something, when I do see these posts I remove them as soon as possible.

Please let me know what I can improve! Trying my best here. Glad to make any changes.

For one, I found a setting that will help me filter out brand new accounts from being able to post in here, which should hopefully help out the bot situation.

"Songs Of Our Own" (AKA Song of the Week) Vote Thread (#5)

Hey everyone,

Here is the vote thread for "Song Of Our Own", #5. The basic idea is the song that is the most upvoted in this thread is the one that gets two dedicated weeks to it, so that users get the opportunity to share tips, post videos, jams, lessons on a particular song during that time. This is an effort to make the community feel more connected rather than disjointed. Here are the general rules:

  1. We vote for a dedicated song every 2 weeks. This can be GD, JGB, Weir solo, etc.
  2. The song that is the most upvoted song on the thread becomes our "Song of our Own" for the next two weeks.
  3. With the post label "Songs Of Our Own" you can post anything related to the song that is chosen, that can be a lesson, jam, performance, tips, theory, etc.
  4. Previously voted songs are off limits and cannot be chosen again.
  5. Lastly, this is a free and open community. You do not have to participate in this and can still post whatever the hell you want as long as it's in the spirit of this sub.

Songs that are off limits and cannot be voted for:

  • Ship Of Fools
  • Estimated Prophet
  • Peggy-O
  • Brown-Eyed Women

What shall our new "Song of Our Own" be?

Anyone have any old maps of the 100 Mile Wilderness they can share?

Looking to get into some of the trout ponds off the AT next month south of the Golden Road and Baxter. Wanting to see if there are any trails (or old bushwhack trails) to any of the ponds I have interest in that might no longer be present on newer maps.

And before anyone asks, i always carry an in-reach, map, compass, extra food, along with all my camping gear. The woods are THICK up there; a lot of people have died and i've read the stories. Definitely dangerous going off trail.

Thanks in advance!

Foolish Ship

Wanted to try out some improv with the licks I learned when I tabbed out Jerry's solo last night and add some of my own to it as well.
