Went to the Lake Merritt Farmers Market and saw this awesome art someone did on the Splash Pad Park bus stop! Gave me some joy this morning.

Just finished Perfume and Pain by Anna Dorn and loved it! The character Ivy is writing her thesis on lesbian pulp, which has inspired me to read some as well! Any recommendations for 50’s or 60’s lesbian pulp?
I've been loving the posts about classic weird girl lit and want to give a shout out for Muriel Spark, especially The Driver's Seat and The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie.
The Driver's Seat is a novella about a woman who abandons her mundane life for a holiday in the south, seeking a passionate encounter that leads to a dark, self-destructive journey. The first time I read this, I was shook! Now I reread it all the time. It's short, so a great quick read or push to get out of a reading slump.
The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie is a novella about a young, unorthodox teacher and her special—and ultimately dangerous—relationship with six of her students. Read it and then watch the film adaptation with Maggie Smith as Miss Jean Brodie, she's great in it!
Anyone else a fan of Muriel Spark books?
Murder Bimbo by Rebeca Novack is a satirical thriller about a 32-year-old sex worker who assassinates a politician, only to realize she's been set up to take the fall. The novel follows her as she goes into hiding and sends emails telling her story in increasingly unreliable and contradictory versions.
Must read for anyone who loves unreliable narrators.
