This one was pretty worn. The top was dented and the chrome is almost all rubbed off down to nickel. I polished the case with Flitz, tightened and the hinge. /////For the insert I reshaped the body and chimney, removed the rusty cam spring, cleaned and polished with Flitz, installed a new string came spring, installed replacement Zorro wick, and repacked with the original and then supplemental cotton/rayon. /////It has a beautiful open/close action now. I filled it with fluid and used the plastic bag on the insert. This will be an interesting looking one to carry./////I wonder if there is a market for Zippos that have are “restored with original character” like this.
Does anyone have a 1956 slim? Does the bottom say “ZIPPO?”
I have the chart and it says that 1956 has no date code, but also 1965 has no dots. Are they the same?
Thanks!
This is a nice example in good working order. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much to clean up, LOL. It looks to me like there was once a wrap of leather or something around the body. It looks pretty cracker without it too, I think.
I just finished cleaning up and repacking this antique lipstick lighter. It came out very nice.
I found this shadow box at the local thrift store a couple weeks ago. It had some “Live Laugh Love” BS painted in the glass which came right off with a razor blade. I used two 1/2” square pieces of wood that I covered in black duck tape (not “duct” tape… I looked it up to make sure) to fill the gap at the bottom and top.
I chose to showcase all my sugar skull and “sugar skull adjacent” Zippos, which are my favorite to find.
All of the top row (except the last one on the right) are $5 gas station flip top but they fit the theme and fit perfectly in a Zippos box. The engraved solid brass one is a Zorro. That is the extent of my sins. 😂
