I'm a former diplomat from a developing NATO member country.
I was serving as a second secretary at our mission to NATO when things at home got to a point where I no longer felt safe going back. I tried to apply for asylum in Belgium. Let's just say the answer was no, and it wasn't delivered politely. Being a diplomat from an allied country didn't count for much in that process but they kept it from my home country and i still had my D card till the end of my tour.If anything, it made things more complicated.
That same year, I met and married an active duty American service member. I've been living in the US ever since, AMA.
