How do I explain my three year career break / gap?

I have taken three years off from work due to mental health issues and am currently on ODSP. However, I’d love to work again so I’m going to college in order to pursue a career change. How do I explain the gap to future employers? I’m not trying to enter the corporate world again or climbing a career ladder. I’m just trying to find a medical administration job and somewhere that I can be employed long term.

I was approved on ODSP for life, but I decided to go back to school - am I on the right track?

A few years ago - I experienced psychosis for the first time due to severe stress and then experienced another episode. I was approved for life on ODSP, but my dream right now is to work again. I have enrolled in college for the medical administration program and just want to know if I’m on the right track. I’m scared that I’m unemployable and starting over is scary too. I tried to work a couple of random jobs from 2023 - 2026, but I was either fired or quit. Am I on the right track with going back to college? I have no references anymore. Also - I’m not trying to climb a corporate ladder or earn six figures. I just want a job where I can move out from my parent’s house and live in an apartment alone. Am I on the right track?

Does anyone else feel like having a physical or mental disability robbed them of their future?

I’m 35 years old and moved back in with my parents after my first episode of psychosis at 33 years old. I no longer drive my car, I don’t have a job, and don’t live on my own. It will take me two years to complete a college program and I also owe my parents a lot of money. By the time I can move out again - I’ll be around 40 years old. Meanwhile other people are married, have children, own their own property with a large networth, have careers, etc…

Psychosis ruined my future and I don’t know if I’ll ever recover

Also - I have been approved for a lifetime on disability therefore I never have to work again due to my psychotic episodes…

I’m 35 years old and live at home. I feel like the only person at this age that still lives at home, but I moved back in after I experienced psychosis and lost everything - car, apartment, and my job. This was at the age of 33 years old. I don’t want to be stuck living at home forever - my parents are great people, but this wasn’t the life that I envisioned for myself. I’m thinking of applying to live in RGI since I’ve been approved permanently on ODSP due to my mental health issues.

What about you - where do you live? What is your living arrangement? How old are you?
