Employer not giving work phone

Hi Im working in Montreal,Québec and my job is a Business development manager. For my job I'm required to call clients and do outreach on a daily basis. Most rof this outreach is by email and booking Zoom calls.

However, my employer wants me to share my personal phone number with all agents, communicate with them through Whatsapp and also similar phone communications with high networth clients. These people are in Europe sometimes so there's a bit of s timezone too sometimes. Like last week I had to take call at 2am in the night. And before you ask, I'm not being paid overtime ofc. Overtime doesn't exist in this company.

Anyways my question is; is the employer legally required to provide me with a work phone? Or pay for my phone bill if I'm using my own phone?

Ps. : when I first started working 8 months ago I asked the boss about work phones and paying for phone bills and he declined. He said it's not a company policy and they will not spend money on this.

Sales job

I'm working at a family firm in Canada related to immigrantion by investment. I am a business development manager but it's my first role in the sales field .

I want to ask the community some basic things;

  1. Do you get a work phone for calls or do you use your personal phone?

I'm told to use my personal phone. The company asks employees to use their period Whatsapp to reach out to clients. There's also cable phones at work for international calls and usually we do calls through zoom. Is this a normal practice in this field?

  1. Commissions

I took a new responsabilities outside my contact. Still related to immigration but it's more like im assisting a director on the side to do some client calls.

I asked my manager what the commission structure is like for the additional work that I'm doing. He said he didn't decide and it's been at least 2 months since I've been doing these calls. I don't think he has a plan to give me any commission. I've signed some clients ( 10k deals each )but I don't know if I'll get paid. What are your thoughts?

Recently I asked to step down from this assistant side role especially since there's no commission promised+ extra work not written in the employment contract.

How are commissions usually paid anyways for such jobs? At my company there's a clause stating that they are paid solely on the managers discretion.

  1. Is 55k Canadian dollars low for starting BDM? I've been hired straight out of uni with a finance degree + 4 languages. I speak to clients in 3 languages on a daily basis.

IELTS

I got an ITA recently but my IELTS is expiring at the end of the month of August.

I was given 60 days to accept the invitation. Do I need to take the IElTS again or do I just accept the invitation & send my document before the IElTS expires?

I think if I send everything to IRCC before the expiry date ,then I don't need to redo the exam?

I already have my medical check done and police certificates are ready. Just have to write the LOI.

French ITA

I received an ITA recently for the french draws. I used to live in Ottawa but had to move to Montreal 6 months ago because it's the only place where I could find a job.

For my intended province of residence, I will put Ontario since I do plan to go back to Ottawa in the future. What are some things that I should be careful about and what should I include for the officers to trust my intentions?

How can I deal with this passive agressiveness?

I work for a company where I'm directly working for the owner of the company. I'm having a bad time because of this. The atmosphere at work is so toxic.

I took a sick day a few weeks ago on Thursday. Friday is our work from home day. And this week I took a sick day on Wednesday but my boss mixed up the days and thought today is Thursday. We are allowed to take 5 sick days per year that are paid. I'm on my #2 sick day withing 6 months of working.

The meeting with clients I'm already aware of it and I already accepted the meeting invite.

While I was at home and opened my computer to check on emails I saw an email from my boss that literally made my heart skip a beat. Is this normal?

How can I deal with constant anxiety of being accused over smallest things?

Will I get my commission?

I'm new to sales and I need advice . I took 3 days off and a client that I was talking to was taken by one of my colleagues in the office without me knowing.

I received a message from my college saying he onboarded the client and will take care of the case from now on.

I'm not sure what the manager will say since he's travelling and not very responsive.

I saw on Salesforce that someone changed my status as the lead owner backup instead of the actual lead owner.

Now the caveat is that the client speaks Chinese and English. I was talking to him in English but the colleague that took my client speaks Chinese and most likely was able to close the deal that way when I was out of the office.

Will I get at least part of the commission?

Working from home

I asked my boss for 3 (mon-tue-wed) vacation days which were granted to me. And the rest of the days (thur- Fri) I asked to work from home. Fridays are always online for everyone.so I'd only have one extra online day . For context I had to travel to a city 2hrs away for something personal. And it would be more convenient to just stay in the city I'm travelling to and work online there than travel back for one day.

He said I can't do that and must take an unpaid leave for one of the days.

I'm surprised that managers hate wfh so much. Im perfectly capable of working online and my job does not require any heavy collaboration or anything of that sort.

I can't believe managers would rather not have you working at all if it means working from home, while you're fully capable of working that day.

clb 4 on speaking

I've noticed everyone is getting clb 4 on speaking recently. I'm thinking there's something fishy about this. Has anyone noticed the same trend?

Do you have a second cellphone for calls?

I work as a BDR in Canada and I'm new to this role. I talked to my manager recently and asked if the company provides another phone line or phone so I don't have to use my personal one.

To my surprise the manager said "no" and explained that I have to use my own phone to make the connection with clients more personal. He is also not open to reimbursing me with another cell phone line/number if I were to get one on my own.

What are the usual norms for cell phones for BDR and SDR roles?

I'm a BDR on Golden visa sales. So I have to sell investments between 250k- 500k euros to high net worth clients. However it's been months (to be precise less than 6 months) and I couldn't sell anything.

It's my first BDR role. Im earning 55K base salary+ commission on the investment amount if I sell anything . I'm struggling to sell however.

Also from speaking to older employees I got information that there were almost no sales done by the BDRs last year. The manager did all the sales and earned commission since he got all the lead directed from himself from the company website.

Something that feels off is that I don't have the commission of the golden visa sales written out directly on my contract. I only have the fixed $ commission of agents written on my work contract.

One of my colleagues sold an investment recently and he asked the manager for the commission. But the manager ended up yelling at him saying "stop constantly asking, I said I'll pay it". I overheard this across the office since it was super loud. My estimate is that about 3-4 weeks after the sale, the commission was paid out. Is this normal practice?

Also, any advice on Golden Visa Sales is appreciated!

I'm struggling with my salary sometimes and I feel like I need another job. I speak four languages and have a bachelor's degree too so I would like to try some other careers too eventually . And potentially I'm being underpaid because I'm tasked to reach out to two different countries' markets build relationships and plan to attend fairs. (I speak the language of the two countries ) So at work I'm using 3 languages by default. It feels unlikely to get the commission due to the manager's poor treatment of employees and the lack of clarity in the employment contract.

In working for a private company that focuses on international immigration and investment.

I'm having trouble at work because it's super toxic to me and there's no HR. So could y'all be my HR and listen to my problems?

1.First, there is constant pressure from the boss who continuously comes to your desk asking for updates. Every time he sends you an email he will walk up to your desk 2 seconds after sending it and ask "have you seen my email?"

  1. I'm a new employee and my boss had an eye on me for the past 3months. One time he got suspicious that I left work 15 min early during a certain week and asked other employees to "spy" on me. One of my colleagues told me about this that whenever I leave at 4pm (I work 8-4) he searches for me in the office and asked the colleague that sits in the cubicle behind me to keep track of my hours. (Wtf 😒)

  2. My boss constantly uses cuss words and is very informal in general (even in the way he dresses- he wears sweatpants and a designer T-shirt with a gold chain). He says "f*ck" in every sentence. And sometimes I hear him yell "mutherf*ckeeeer" inside his room ... The whole office hears it actually cuz he's loud.....

  3. My boss calls out employee names like we are dogs. He'll sit in his room and leave the door open to yell out orders. If he needs you to check something for him he'll yel your name out : " X come here!!!" And you have to leave everything and go immediately.

  4. Everyone my boss talks it's condescending, manipulative or straight up rude. He downgrades the Ch*nese employee in the office because he believes his English is not good enough. "When will you learn to speak English!!" One time he got mad and yelled at him like this.

  5. Another employee got yelled at recently too. She was told to "fucking leave, go home".

I'm looking for s different job already but I'm stuck here for now. Everyday is a shock at this place. Any advice on how to survive?
