What the heck happened? I've been away from classes and got an email from the Provost that they trespassed a bunch of people for disruptive protests. One of my classes had to listen to a drum circle a few halls down and nothing happened for that, so I was wondering if anyone knew what pushed the university into intervening?
Not getting into the details but I have a prof who explained how she engages in civil/human rights violations and that we in the program will probably have to as well and I am not sure how to handle the situation.
I went to a sourdough class and came out with a starter but the teacher was a 'measure with your heart' kinda guy. I don't have a scale and am not looking to get instagram perfect, but my starter is making a lot of alcohol but not really rising. What do I need to do to make it do more starter-like things. I'm currently feeding it bread flour.
My nephew is 5, male, and while I don't see him often but my sister, who sees him more, suspects he might be on the spectrum. I'm not sure but I my brother passed on a story that sounded like it might be a form of echolalia? But I'm not expert so I though I would ask. My brother pass it on as one of those 'kids being hilarious' and I am going to spoil it because I'm not super familiar with the sub and it's discussion of genitals.

I know some kids engage in that behaviour because they get shock value attention, but apparently this is not an isolated incident and the others were words that weren't emotionally loaded. He just picks a word and goes around the house naming everything as that word. The big thing though is it comes off as a bit compulsive. He cannot be stopped, distracted, or redirected. The only way the family handles it is just letting it run it's course and ignoring him until he finishes in his own time.
So I may or may not have ADHD. It's complicated. They put me on Biphentin to try out and it is making me super sleepy. I'm not taking about the crash, though that happened my first day and I cried into a bowl of potatoes about it. I get drowsy long before its time for it to wear off. I don't have anything to compare it too because I avoid coffee and caffeine because of another condition I have. I don't do recreational drugs, drink, or smoke. I was just wondering if anyone has hdd a similar experience and what they did about it.
So COVID has left me with beat up lungs. I don't have asthma but every time I catch even the slightest cough it puts me in the emergency room. I've been 3 times in 2 years, and the last time was just a cold that morphed into monster. I had the sniffles, not the flu, and then I was in emergency huffing on puffers like they were going out of shortage. So COVID definitely messed me up a little.
However, and this is weird, like weird weird, is it gave me a sense of smell. I never really had much of a sense of smell. I nearly set my house on fire because I left a pan of bacon grease in a pan on a heated burner and I couldn't smell the grease burning. I figured out the problem because my skin started to feel greasy and I wasn't sweating. I worked retail in a mall and we had an unhoused man hanging around our kiosk. My coworkers were all dying because he smelled bad bad but the only reason I knew is because my eyes were watering. I could pick up a few scents, like cig smoke and people who were drenched in perfume, but it was more tasting the scent than smelling it.
So got COVID, got better, got a secondary infection, took antibiotics and got better and then BAM. I could smell. And for the first 3 months or so it was awful. At work I used to deal with the customers that had poor hygiene because they didn't bug me and now suddenly I'm gagging when they get near. Camping fires were unbearable. Cigarette smoke was like having them shoved up my nose. It's calmed down as I've gotten used to things and a bit desensitized but it was bad.
I am just wondering if anyone has had a similar reaction? Now, obviously people who can't smell aren't a dime a dozen, but has anyone here actually had any of their senses improve after COVID? All my research just brings up recovery stats on loss of smell and taste so I am stuck looking for anecdotes.
