AI is sifting CVs?

I’m employed and been where I’m at for 5 years. It’s a great job, lovely colleagues and good money, but I’ve hit a ceiling and I believe it’s time to move on now.

i only seriously started my job hunt 2 weeks ago, but honestly shocked at how tough it has been. I can apply for a job at 8PM and get rejected an hour later. How?

I mentioned it to a friend and she told me employers are now using AI to sift CVs. I literally have everything the job adverts require, a wealth of technical skills and up to 8 years of experience in this sector, but I don’t pass the sniff test with AI?

It’s making me wonder if companies are worried or wondering about the quality potential hires they’ve let go of. I’m also curious to what criteria is set, if I have everything listed on an advert. This is really concerning.

My family member married a man from Spain few years ago in her country, but I think he is married

we are concerned because they’ve been married for 3 years and he has made no effort to actually be permanently with her. He travels to her country once a year and is now using the excuse of wanting to look for a new place to live first before making a move. She’s also now pregnant.

is there any public marriage register? Anybody in Madrid that can help us with information on this man?

Home ownership with low salary

what ways do you know people become landlords/homeowners if they earn low-average salaries around the M25 area?

I want to help my sibling get on the property ladder and tried to ask a friend who earns £26k how she managed to do it, but she was being very vague. How do you get a 3 bed home in Basildon on that salary? I know she only put down a low deposit because she actually asked for my help with my mortgage broker and conveyance solicitor but now that I want information, she’s sharing nothing.

Opinions on only one spouse travelling back home

My husband and I planned on going back to Nigeria just on holiday, but also to introduce family members to our children. I was happy and on board with this until an incident happened with one of his family members.

My in law did not like a statement I made on social media generalising Nigerians (something we all do everyday) and decided to screenshot it and pass it around the family (excluding my husband). They took several months before actually raising this to my husband, all while pretending to be happy families, and did this confrontation in their own language.

Yes, we are both Nigerian but different tribes. He knows my tribe’s language very well but I do not know his.

His sister and mother particularly, questioned him on why I would make such a statement, to which my husband did not entertain. Rather, he told me what was said, asked me about it and I was surprised that a post I had made 6 months ago, following a video I reshared echoing the same points, was taken personally. Meanwhile, all this time being friendly and taking things from me.

His family took offence that he shared these things with me, as they wanted to use their language to gossip about me undetected.

I no longer trust them and not interested in travelling to Nigeria anymore. I initially told my husband he can go on his own, but I have realised that this may be a big mistake. I don’t know if I am being unfair and why in laws go out of their way to sustain relationships with people when they are abroad. I no longer trust the closeness anymore.

WIBTAH Cutting of a friend who is TTC?

l gave birth a year ago and a friend who I had been close to said nothing. I initially thought this was because I hadn’t told her about my pregnancy early enough, but it was my first and I just wanted to be far along enough to feel confident enough to tell people.

Considering we were close enough that her family was family to me, I expected some kind of support or acknowledgment from her family also, but nothing. Not even a congratulatory text.

we recently bumped into each other at a mutual friends baby shower and she pretended to not see me at all. This to me, was the most blatant display that she had an issue with me but she’s never said why.

I mentioned it to another mutual friend and found out that she’s been TTC for years and so far has not been able to. I never knew this, nor could I assume so because she’s never told me and only been married a few years. I also NEVER ask couples when they’re going to start having kids, so it never even occurred to me that they would be struggling to.

I did initially feel sympathy to know she was going through that, but questioned why she was able to support our other friend whose having a baby and not me. Growing up she has ALWAYS been competitive with me and this just feels like she’s behaving this way because it’s something she didn’t “win“ at.

I was advised to be patient and understanding of her situation, but I want to say my peace of mind and cut her off. WIBTA to do this? Or am I not allowed to be offended because she’s TTC? My baby is 1 now and she’s not even met them or cared to.

Is it normal to be asked to pay money to attend a baby shower?

This is the first time it has ever happened to me and I’m curious to know if It’s appropriate for me to be annoyed.

I and my husband have been invited to a baby shower but the invitation states it’s £50 per person, including children. That would mean £150 for us to attend, not even including a gift.

Bank Statements Issue

On prior applications, I was able to filter my bank statements to only show salary deposits, while having it still classed as an official statement because my bank could generate it and export it as a pdf. This is no longer an option.

What’s grinding my gears right now is that because of recent medical leave, we have to provide 12 months worth of bank statements each and there’s no option to filter this. Am I really expected to send 12 months worth of statements to UKVI that’s worth almost 100 pages? What are other people doing?

Renting to refugees

Please note: I have nothing against refugees.

I have a viewing scheduled with someone later today, but I have found communicating with them incredibly difficult. They never seem to understand anything I’m really saying over texts, so I chose to call to be sure why.

The person’s English isn’t great. Found myself frequently having to repeat things and then they later revealed that they were a refugee but had right to rent and work.

My issue isn’t his accent, because I understand what he’s saying or trying to say. My issue is that he doesn’t really understand me. How can I be sure that when he signs an agreement, he knows what he’s committing to. I’m concerned that this may lead to breaking the terms of the agreement frequently and not sure if someone of refugee status is even a stable tenant. I could be wrong but I am just concerned.

I rented a property out to an asylum seeker before, who was a wonderful tenant, but she was quite old (80+). She needed me to help her with everything, needed to repeat things frequently because she either forgot or misunderstood. I was always worried about her health and she frequently put us in vulnerable positions, like leaving the key on the door, not closing the door when she goes out and other events that made me sceptical of ever renting to someone again who wasn’t either cognisant or conversant.

Am I being too cautious?

For people who have gained permanent residency or citizenship ‘abroad’, did you still end up buying land/property in Nigeria?

I wasn’t born or raised in Nigeria, so I do not have enough attachment to it feel I need to build or buy there. On the other hand, my husband did and his mother specifically, keeps bringing up that she wants us to buy land and build in Nigeria.

My husband wasn’t receptive when she brought it up to him, so I think she now felt she could get through to him by telling me about it.

Personally, my concern is that we won’t even be in Nigeria long or frequent enough to enjoy the investment. I am also not interested in the rental/air bnb industry in Nigeria. I feel only family in Nigeria will reap the benefits.

But I wonder if I am being close minded. We own 2 properties in the UK already and I don’t think I am interested in being anybody’s landlord again.

I will not pretend to fully know or understand what’s going on in South Africa, we have enough going on in the UK, but why is this sub only highlighting their treatment towards Nigerians?

I know it’s a Nigerian sub, but people are questioning why they’re treating NIGERIANS like this, but my understanding is that they are doing this to everyone who isn’t black and South African.

To the best of my recollection, they are also doing this to white South African. Isn’t that why Trump offered them asylum last year? I know I’m not going crazy as I remember that being on the news. I also believe it was Elon Musk who brought it to his attention.

I saw Elon Musk (the richest man on the planet) say on X a couple weeks ago, that they won’t even give him license to launch Star Link there because he is white. Meanwhile he is actually South African.

So what is actually going on?
