$40/month for 5 years?

I’m a new customer and just signed up for home internet service. It’s advertised as $40/month with no increase for 5 years. And it was based on a $10 discount for direct debit billing.

They just sent me something to sign. It spells out the plan as $80/month, with $10 discount for direct debit, and $30/month discount only for 12 month.

So in other words it’s $40/month for only one year and then $70/month after that.

Please explain how this is correct? How can I insure that my bill doesn’t increase to $70 in month 13?

Tipping on online purchase?

I just went to order an item from a consumer electronic company (name redacted).

Is this a joke? Have they no shame?
