Ariya 12v Battery Charging Demystified - AGM Myth Buster?

A couple weeks ago I asked if anyone had tried installing a T.E.T. LFP battery I found on Amazon and since no one responded I decided to try it out myself. It’s actually cheaper than some AGM batteries found locally so I thought I’d give it a shot. So glad I did because its been an amazing eye opener for me mainly because of the intelligent battery monitoring system that’s built into the battery. I had a totally different picture of how I thought the Ariya DC-DC 12v charging system worked. As a mechanic/EE, I now completely understand why a common lead acid battery (AGM or flooded) will prematurely, FAIL in this car. I decided to do a live recording of my commute from work to show you how the Ariya handles the 12v battery. The video has my narration and is boringly informative for only the most techy elite. So far I’m extremely happy with this $209 LFP battery from Amazon.

Did I cut this guy off?

I needed to get into the left lane to make a left hand turn ahead. I even gave my signal before merging. Turn up volume for his horn blowing rage. I don’t know what he was angry about.

Rear view cam and then front:

EDIT: many have said the video is too long and maybe so but it’s really 2 videos back to back. First is the rear camera view and second is the front camera view. About a minute each. Just wanted to give everyone the full perspective. The front camera shows me moving into the left turning lane at the intersection (the reason I had to get over to the left to begin with) and you see the white (unhappy) truck speed past to continue down the highway.

Tesla Superchargers - MyNissan vs Telsa App

Looking to find out if there are any pros/cons to using one app over the other when charging at a Tesla Supercharger for the Ariya? I have both apps but I have yet to charge my Ariya at one of the superchargers. Thanks!

eStep Probe

Hey everyone! I have a 2025 Nissan Ariya Platinum Plus e4orce that I bought this past January with only 6500 miles on it at the time (now has 8000). I have read a number of reports that eStep causes premature brake pad wear on the rear brakes. I always thought that eStep was all about regenerative braking so I’m wondering what is going on? Is this just misinformation or does Nissan really have a problem with the mode itself. Maybe only affecting front wheel drive versions since no motor in the rear? I currently do mostly city driving and always use eStep plus “B” mode to try and maximize my regen. Of course I have dual motors, so maybe it’s nothing I need to worry about?

I’d love to hear anyone else’s experience in this area. I’m an engineer and mechanic so I have a pretty good mindset for diagnosing these things. I’m tempted to set up some sort of testing to see if I can measure what’s actually happening. One thing I think we have to keep in mind is that many repair shops are going to lie about the pad wear just to steal the customer’s money. I’ve seen this way too often. But still, maybe there’s something not quite right with some of the Ariyas that use eStep. Really loving this car!

Ariya Battery Life

This particular section on the display has always been a mystery to me until I finally found it in the manual. Who knew that we had a built in way to see the battery life of the car! Cool!!

Since there are 12 hash marks, each drop should represent about an 8.33 percent degradation. My car is a 2025 with only a little over 7k miles on it so it’s reading zero degradation, which one would expect.

This would also be a great thing to check if you are considering buying a used Ariya.

JDM Taillights

I installed some JDM taillights this weekend on my Ariya and made this comparison video. The left side is the JDM and the right is the US version. Does anyone know if the JDM center taillight adds anymore sequencing for the center left and right LEDs?

Just wanted to alert everyone if you use the autocharge option for your account and then sell or trade your car that is attached to the EVgo account, the next person can charge for free against your credit card without any recourse from you. It happened to me when I sold my Ioniq 5 recently. I forgot that I had setup the car on my EVgo app for autocharge whenever I plug into one of their DCFCs. I received an alert that my credit card was being used at an EVgo in Colorado and when I opened the app, sure enough there was a charge session happening in real time and nothing I could do to stop it. Of course I then went into my settings and deleted the car from my account so it shouldn't happen again but I was really disappointed that there was no way I could stop the charge session from the app.
