WIP - most complex scratch build I’ve made so far

Recreating an old favorite bar from Google Streetview archives. Mainly sheet Styrene, foamboard and some bamboo skewers. The texture and colour on the wall was an absolute pain in the balls to get right… I guess fitting, given the name

A tiny house, Kyle St

I’m the process of making a scale model of the bar formerly known as BDSM, a project which is turning into a right pain in the balls (fittingly, given the name). So I took up a side quest for a friend to make a model of her family home from near Cornmarket st. The actual building no longer exists, it was demolished about 15 years ago to make room for some apartments. Now that I know Google Street view has archives you can go through, planning to make some more older Cork buildings… always open to suggestions for places you’d like to see replicated in mini :)

Terraced house, Ireland

A friend asked me to make a model of her grandmother’s house - which was demolished around 2009 and replaced with more modern apartments. She only had one reference photo but Google Streetview had it in its archives, so I was able to make a decent stab at it. Used ground scatter to get the wall texture, though un-painted pebbledash is a surprisingly hard colour to replicate. The street lamp is made out of 2 googly-eyes with an LED inside, rather pleased with how that turned out.

Comments and critique welcome!

The Liberation of Paul St

Artist’s gammy rendition: City Council finally shutting down the Fifth Quarter.

No longer will Paul Street by plagued by the tyranny of a small number of food stalls, pleasant lights, plentiful public seating, or any other potentially subversive amenities that might have incited a distasteful sense of community, development or civic pride in Rory Gallagher Place.

You may now return to using the area as it was designed to be legally used in accordance with planning permission laws: passing quickly through, determinedly avoiding eye contact with an aggressive beggar on your way to God’s Most Forsaken Tesco, and leaving as quickly as possible.

I made a tiny slice of French Church Street

On French Church Street, there is a strange, narrow door. An alarm calls faintly from inside, but nobody pays any heed. The sign says ‘Crisis Ltd’, a company which does not exist.

It is imperative this door remains shut.

Tiny pub, Cork, Ireland

Scratch built from Styrene and PVC board, with some help from a Cricut Joy to help score the styrene.

I made a tiny o’sho

Since I made a tiny Miyazaki last time, I couldn’t help but complete the pairing

a photo of a local pub, overlaid over the model I’m making of it.

If anyone has a more methodical, step by step approach to mixing and matching paint to specific reference photos, please let me know. Feel like I need to go revisit some Bob Ross videos and pay more attention this time…
