How to deal with the stress that comes with HE jobs

Bit of a different post, how do you maintain a healthy WLB? (Granted you even have one).

Whats that one thing that you can do that makes you switch off away from everything- could be watching a movie, going for a jog etc.

Curious to hear others here deal with stress/ a stressful job consuming most their day.

Job onboarding- do I need to declare driving points?

Hi all. Very stressed so any professional advice would be appreciated.

I have 6 points for driving without insurance (went court as they said I was on my phone (total lie) and the phone charge got dropped as i thought).

Anyway, when onboarding a new job it states ‘any previous criminal convictions (spent doesn’t have to be stated) if so please write it down’.

My only issue is, is my driving points an actual criminal conviction? So many websites state it won’t even come up, but I don’t want to risk it too. So do I state it or not I’m in 2 minds.

Context I’m 22, this was when I was 18, 3 and a half years ago. Points have expired but not ‘spent’ but no further points or charges since. Never been in trouble with police aside from this. England based.

What is something you couldn’t afford but wanted growing up, but can now

I ask this after someone I know spent £120k on a limited edition RS6 because he always wanted one, now he ran into money he’s bought the best money could buy, double what a usual one would go for.

It could be anything simple, literally branded grocery items etc.

Curious to hear!

Do driving license points count as a criminal conviction?

Hi all.

Just need some advice on this situation please- many thanks in advance.

21 (UK, Midlands) now but when I was 18 (early 2023) I received 6 points for driving without insurance (IN10), the points have come off as they passed the 3 year mark.

I did go court for the offence as I appealed a separate charge of being on my phone which was bs anyway and that was dropped. As a result 6 points (IN10) + £520 fine.

My question is, I have a very good job offer and background checks will commence soon, do I have to declare these points when asked ‘declare previous criminal convictions’? Is it actually a criminal conviction, or can I just not mention it?

I don’t want to mess up my chances here, I tried so hard for this role, have never had any trouble with the police (aside from driving without insurance).

Please only advise if you actually know about this topic, many thanks in advance.

How important is the prestige of your company? Early career specifically

how important is the prestige of the company you work for?

How much difference is there between working for a small local practice, a regional firm, or a top consultancy or MC?

I know a big name looks good on your CV and I guess it also shows you were able to get into a competitive firm which takes hard work. But in the long run, does that matter?

Interested to hear from people who have worked at different sized firms.

Ofc for finance & law top firms are desired.

How important is the ‘prestige ’ of the firm you work at?

For careers like accounting, finance, law, engineering and similar professions, how much does the prestige of the firm you work for actually matter?

Some people say the company name on your CV is very important, while others say experience is all that matters.

How much difference is there between working for a small local firm, a mid sized firm or a top global firm?

I know a big name looks good on paper, but does it really make a big difference in the long run or does your experience become more important?

In my opinion, early career wise it matters a lot, a large international firm would be hard to get into (let’s say JP Morgan) and it’ll show you meet a high standard to even get into that sort of firm, I may be wrong though?

Will driving license points come up on a DBS?

Hi all. Probably a strange & random questions. But I’ve got an offer from a large t1 consultancy and about to begin the background checks. It is a trainee role.

When applying I put no criminal convictions as I’ve never been arrested or went prison etc- clean criminal record.

But recently I’ve read that driving license points are a conviction? I have 6 points for driving uninsured years ago. Will this be an issue for me ? I’m stressed out massively ngl I never knew driving license points were linked to a criminal record!

Is points on my license a ‘criminal conviction’?

Hi all. Very confused as mixed answers online. I have 6 points for driving uninsured (18 and silly) but it’s been 3 years and the points are removed, though the points are still on system another 2 years I believe.

When applying for jobs, do I have to declare this as a criminal conviction?

Do license points come up on a standard DBS check and if so is it an issue from the employers side?

Appreciate the feedback in advance.

How to change a bad friendship circle?

Not sure if this is the right place but a post popped up on my feed and seeing as there’s a bunch of prison officers/ ex cons in here I thought I’d ask the question above.

Those who change up their life & fixed their friendship circle how did you do it? As right now my circle is very bad and constantly bringing bad stuff around me. 21m from London for context. I’m trying my best to distance myself but it is hard as it’s all I’ve known if you know what I mean.

Any advice would be helpful.

MC Senior QS’s why do you stay?

Why don’t you senior QS’s with years of experience pivot to consulting or even client side, why stay MC? More pressure, more fast paced, more working hours, harder graft (debatable), less office/ corporate more on site, etc etc. Plus the pay levels out at that level too. So why stay?

What is the best thing about being a QS?

I know being a QS gets put down often, stressful, boring, repetitive etc, but I would love to know what about being a QS you like the most- could be anything literally; salary, career progression, WFH, company culture. Literally anything.

Hi all. Re a background check, how does the reference work? Like can I use a college teacher? What do they ask etc.

Those who transferred from university lets say year one onto a degree apprenticeship, how did it work with the employer?

Has anyone transferred from the same course too, let’s say civil engineering to a civil eng DA, did you skip a year off of the apprenticeship etc?

I’ve heard a ppl have done this
