Akbayan lawmakers have filed House Bill No. 9929, a measure that would allow Filipinos to seek official recognition of their gender identity and update government records to reflect their "lived identity."
Under the proposal, a person born male but living as a woman could apply to have official documents changed accordingly, while supporters say the bill would protect dignity, privacy and equal treatment.
