Looking for thermostat recommendations

Hi. Thanks for reading this.

My parents are having a terrible time with their thermostat, and I think this is the fourth one we've tried.

I really wish I had grabbed the old one off the wall at their last house, because they understood it.

But here's what I'm looking for:

A very simple, non-programmable thermostat with auto-changeover that uses only one temperature setpoint and figures out the deadband for itself. They are really struggling with theirs to get the two deadband temperatures set. The one at their old house only had a single temperature setting in auto mode, and it would heat or cool without asking the homeowner to set multiple temperatures.

  1. Simple
  2. Non-programmable
  3. Auto changeover with one setpoint (thermostat figures out the deadband on its own)

Anyone have any ideas?

Thank you so much!

Pentax K to EOS lens adapter, and question about AF confirmation

Hi, everyone.

I recently was given an old Rebel t3i with a 50mm lens. I have some older AF Pentax lenses of different sizes. I'm looking for an adapter, and it's a bit confusing. Admittedly, I don't know what I'm doing.

I see two types: Those with AF confirmation chips and those without.

The non-AF-confirmation adapters seem to get better reviews, but they would leave me with no AF confirmation.

The AF-confirmation adapters get worse reviews, but if they work, I'd retain AF confirmation.

What's a person to do? Any recommendations as to specific adapters? And if I lose my AF confirmation forever, how big a deal is that? I'm fine using manual focus, but I rely on the little green light in my viewfinder to help me zero it in. Do you think it would be too big a deal if I need to manual focus without the confirmation light?

Thank you!

Kia oil consumption questions

My 2019 Kia is burning oil. The dealership started an oil consumption test. The receipt says they put a tamper-proof mark on the dipstick, but I didn't see any such mark, so I went ahead and checked the oil. It seems significantly over full to me. I'm not sure what to do now. If they overfilled it, I assume they will likely determine that it did not burn much oil after 1,000 miles. But if I call them and tell them it's over full, they will know that I checked the oil, which apparently I wasn't supposed to do. Any thoughts? Thank you so much.
