Lost 81 pounds (so far) and started buying some new clothes. Can I get a fit check?

Title says most of it. Down 81lbs+ since January. Wanted to get some new clothes. Levi’s jacket $35 at Sierra. Ely Cattleman shirt $45 at a vintage store. George jeans $18 at Walmart. Blundstone boots $210 at my local workwear store.

Is the jacket too short? It doesn’t quite button yet but it will soon. Is the shirt too long? Do the jeans sit on the boots properly?

Before you say it: Yes I know I need a beard trim and haircut. Yes I should smile more.

I’m a little self-conscious so please go easy on me.

Mutiny Beach inside Convention Hall will be open throughout SHN

We’re a locally owned and operated bar and grill located inside Convention Hall and will be open with the full menu and table service. Our sister restaurant and original location, Mutiny BBQ Company at 808 5th Ave., will be open at 11 if you’re looking to eat before heading into the festival. We were featured on Food Network’s Diners Drive-ins and Dives and we’re considered among the best BBQ joints in the northeast.

I’m a local and I’m happy to answer any questions you might have about really anything to help make your visit awesome. Feel free to drop me a comment or send a DM.

Five songs and 20 minutes to fall in love with Fontaines DC.

I made this very short playlist because I have a ton of friends attending SHN but most of them don’t know about or haven’t listened to Fontaines DC. You’ve got just over a week to become a fan!

https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3vht3oL2i4IYKUoAEKBq3l?si=i7rEw39jTx-gEgJ-n\_0Xbw&utm\_source=copy-link&pi=p1mQCHE4Rfq2T

They’re massively popular around the world but haven’t fully broken through here in the US. I think that will change when their new album comes out this fall. They’re tremendous live performers too.

Fun little piece of Asbury Park/Fontaines lore— they were scheduled to play the Wonderbar in April 2022 but canceled day-of due to illness. (Some people will tell you that the band got to the venue, took a look around, and backed out of the gig. But knows for sure?)

The show was rescheduled for October 2022 and moved to the Stone Pony. The band had a crazy, meteoric rise in the months between including a career-defining set for 80,000 fans at Primavera Sound in Barcelona that June. By the time October rolled around the Pony was probably too small of a venue for them. Regardless, they returned to Asbury Park and made good on the canceled gig. The Pony show was absolutely electric and they were phenomenal.

Strength training apps/program recommendations

I’ve been using the pill since January. Down 70 pounds (333–>262.6). I have definitely noticed some muscle loss and I’ve been neglecting the resistance training even though it’s clearly necessary.

I’m not a novice to weightlifting, just wondering if anyone has any programming or app recommendations to help get me back into it.

Six dishes I love in Asbury Park.

I’m a chef and restauranteur in town. Here are six random dishes that I love at Asbury Park restaurants. Don’t read anything into what isn’t listed here. This idea just came to me randomly and I wanted to shout some places out.

Cacio e pepe scrambled eggs from Cardinal.

This is the best breakfast in town. It’s so simple and so good.

Beef empanadas from Latin Diner.

This place is an absolute gem. I believe these are the same owners who also took over City Super and drastically improved it. Two beef empanadas and a papa rellena from the hot case and you have a meal. These empanadas are what every other empanada strives to be.

Al pastor tacos from Oaxaquenita.

There are several similarly solid taquerias in town but I feel like these guys are doing it best right now.

Lamb burger at Reyla.

This burger is great because it’s something aside from the typical cheeseburger. Every element has a great complementary role in the bite. I will always be a sucker for zatar on fries. This inspired me to put a burger on my own menu that wasn’t just a “burger.”

Chicken parm at Jimmy’s.

This feels too obvious and I almost didn’t include it for that reason. I waited a really long time to ever go to Jimmy’s because I kind of thought I knew what the place was all about. But everything you hear about that chicken parm is true. It’s transcendent. Truly next level. We ate other stuff that I honestly didn’t love, but that chicken parm was special.

Broiled oysters at R Bar.

Our go to move at R Bar is to pretty much order one of every starter. There are like three or four other items I could have listed here because they’re all also really good, but this is the best iteration of a broiled oyster (a personal favorite) in the area.

Hiring dishwashers, prep cooks, and line cooks

Hiring dishwashers, prep cooks, and line cooks at Mutiny Beach in Convention Hall. Starting at $18/hr+. Full and part-time hours available. I’ve got some flexibility if you’re working somewhere else and just want to get a couple of extra shifts in to help make ends.

It’s a fast-paced environment in the summer and the space is small but we’re doing really high quality food that you’ll be proud to serve. We have a positive culture and work environment. It can be grueling but we try to keep it fun.

Shoot me an email if you’re interested. tom@mutinybbq.com.
