Flying to Evansville, or larger airport?

I need to get to Evansville. I'm buying a car near there (Haubstadt) so I need to get there without having to deal with returning a rental car.

Flights directly to Evansville are an option. Also, what about flying to a larger airport and shuttle or bus to Evansville?

Thanks for sharing your wisdom and local knowledge.

**Update:**Thanks everyone for the advice. I'll be flying into EVV!

Debit card fee on purchase when I didn't take out cash

I bought two items at a convenience store in a very small town in CA.

Paid with my debit card, they charged me 50 cents for using it.

In the past I've only been charged if I took out cash, which I rarely do.

Is this charge legit?

Hurling Poo.... Maybe try not to make enemies out of friends

I'm a lurker on this board. I don't live in a Van, but I follow lots of these discussions. I live in Central California, near Fresno.

Yesterday I was helping a friend by fixing his fence. He lives a few miles from Bass Lake, near the SR 41 entrance to Yosemite.

I found a paper shopping bag, inside of it was a plastic garbage bag that contaned shit and piss.

Then another one. Same thing. I picked them up, put them in my car, and took them back to my friend's house and put them in his trash cans. When I mentioned them to him, he told me he had picked up two similar bags a few days ago.

As a lurker on this board, I tended to be tolerant of Vandwellers. When I was driving home on 41, I saw a couple of Vans that looked like Vandwellers, and I did not look on them with pleasure. I was thinking "I wonder if that is the guy?"

Tossing your piss and poo out of the Van as you leave a neighborhood harms EVERY Vandweller. Sorry you don't like the smell, but there are trashcans at every service station, Fast Food joint and Supermarket.

Don't dump your shit where you sleep. Don't make the entire neighborhood into a posse looking for the schmuck who is dumping their shit along the side of the road. Dispose of your shit in a trashcan.

Will I once again look on Vandwellers with tolerance? I don't know.

Migrating to new Windows OS and need Excel and Word software

I'm finally going to migrate away from my trusty (and plenty fast) Win 7 PC to Windows 10/11.

Moving to a new PC and a Laptop, so will need two copies of the software.

What has been keeping me on my Windows 7 machine, besides the fact that Win 10/11 makes me feel like Bill Gates is looking over my shoulder when I use it, is that I use Excel and Word often. I'm using MS Office Pro Plus 2010.

So I assume I will buy a couple licenses on Ebay from some reseller.

I'm a retired engineer. Just using Office for my own stuff. Not interested in migrating to some new SW.

Version? Stick with 2010, or ???

Or...???

Thanks for taking the time to read to comment.

Noble Credit Union weird charge, which they reversed...

Just a heads up.

I opened up an account at Noble CU a couple years ago so I would have a local brick and mortar bank to go to when needed. A few months ago I opened another checking account at Noble, to keep from co-mingling funds for a project.

All accounts are set for electronic statements.

On May 31 my second (newer) checking account had a charge of $2 for printing and mailing a statement. The account has been open for 3-4 months. My statements are electronic, I was never mailed a statement.

I called Nobel, they were surprised and reversed the charge.

If you have a Noble account you might look at your fees. Am I the only one this happened to? Dunno.

Maybe it was a test. I hope I passed.

Robert DeNiro on "The Late Show" with Stephen Colbert last night, May 20 2026

As Robert Deniro was walking onto stage on "The Late Show" last night, CBS 47 abruptly went to commercial. Several commercials aired, followed by 90 seconds of a blank screen.

Apparently the Trump fans at Nexstar didn't want us to see the segment.

Nexstar sucks. CBS 47 sucks. Trump will die, and there will be the largest party this nation has ever seen.

Here is a description of what Fresno could not see:

May 6 Debate Governor Broadcast at 7pm on NBC Los Angeles...not in SLO!

Really? NBC TV SLO is not picking up the feed for the Governor debate on NBC LA. Nope. Gonna air Jeopardy or something.

I called the NBC station in San Luis Obispo...the "News Room" had NO IDEA why they were not carrying the debate. Yes, the News Room.

Then I called San Francisco KNTV - They are broadcasting it!

I said "You know What? You're a fucking news man!"

"Hell yeah we fucking are!" he replied.

Tonight's Gubernatorial debate at 7pm is broadcast in the Los Angeles and San Francisco markets. That covers about 70% of the population of California, I guess.

KSBY San Luis Obispo sucks. 805-541-6666

I'll post my FCC complaint in a few days and you can copy and paste.

Broadcast News should be broadcasting an NBC sponsored debate STATEWIDE

FWIW I live in a rural area. No cable internet or fiber. Only over the air. We have dish, so that is our link.

Feel free to call them at 559-222-2411 News room is #2. You can tell them what A-holes they are. I did.

So, I called the NBC station in San Luis Obispo...SAME Thing! Are you kidding?

Yes, I can stream it on my computer. But still, NBC, I think this is news worthy. More than Jeopardy!

Synchrony is offering an IRA 12 month CD at 5.1%.

I would do a rollover from Vanguard. Currently earning 3.58% in the VG Federal Money Market account. So a bump of 1.5% essentially.

My concern is what can I do when the CD matures. Assuming Synchrony is then offering low rates, I would need to roll it over back to Vanguard most likely.

Has anyone done this? I just went though the rollover gauntlet with some 403B annuities for my SO. Corebridge were total A-holes. Western National Life were bad, but at least they did what they should do. Both of them drag their feet if it earns them a few pennies on the money.

My concern is Synchrony takes the full 60 days to roll over the funds when I want to take them out after the CD matures. That would cost me about 0.6%, which means instead of earning 1.5% more I'm now earning 0.9% more.

I think I'm talking myself out of this.

Anybody have any experience with this situation?

Vanguard has been great and honest. Corebridge and Western National Life not so much. Will Synchrony be more like Vanguard or Corebridge?

Thanks for sharing your wisdom.

Edit: Are there better places to put part of my IRA for guaranteed earnings that are more trustworthy? Better places at Vanguard, which would be easiest and I trust them?

Update: I've decided not to get the CD. Too much hassle, and I'm concerned Synchrony Bank will screw around with the rollover, because they can.

Moved the money into VBTLX
