i lie to my in laws about baby not having sugar or screen time

my in laws are really pushy about sugar since baby was 6 months and starting solids. every single time we see them, they make a comment about giving my LO a bite of the dessert we’re eating, even tho my husband and i have repeatedly made it clear we’re not giving him sugar. at one point my MIL was blatantly feeding him these loaded waffles even though my husband was telling her to stop. she even made a comment directly to baby about how he’ll like grandma better because she gives him sugar and mom and dad are “bad” (baby was 8 months). both FIL and MIL have made comments or “jokes” about giving him sugar while we’re not there, and my husband finally had to lightly say that baby would not be coming around without us if they do that.

anyways, now baby is going on 1 year and i do give him occasional sugar, like yogurt pouches, cheerios, or a bite of something i’m eating if he shows interest in it. but im still telling my in laws he’s not having any sugar until 2 years. i KNOW if i open the floodgates they’re going to load him up and i wont even be able to say no. right now i still have control over how much he consumes

same with screen time. if i need to take a 5 min shower i do sit my LO down with ms. rachel every so often, or if im cooking something like meat where my hands will be dirty for a few mins etc. they don’t know this either because i know they’ll sit him down in front of the TV while we’re not there

unfortunately, because of repeatedly pushing my boundaries with both their comments and actions i have to do this, though i feel a tiny bit guilty about it because my husband doesn’t know. i know he won’t like that im lying to his family but we also come from a culture where babies are very much everyone’s babies, so it’s way harder to get his parents to listen to us lmao

just needed to get that off of my chest 😅

what size fondant letters should i get?

we’re trying to ball on a budget this year for my sons birthday party so we’re ordering a plain costco sheet cake that i’m going to decorate myself! i want to use fondant letters to write happy birthday on it, but i’ve never ever worked with fondant before (or decorated a cake before lol).

i’m going to order tappit letter cutters, but what size should i order to appropriately fill a sheet cake? there will be some decor in the periphery which i will work around the letters

rob’s gross

i’m rewatching KUWTK and i never realized this before but rob can’t go a single scene without bringing up his p*nis or m*sterbation and it’s so gross to me.

there was a scene in season 8 with penelope’s shorts and rob said he wished his waist was that size, and khloe said “no you don’t” and he was like “you’re right it’s the size of my p*nis” or something like that… about an infant’s shorts?! that’s wildly inappropriate

breastfeeding in nyc

i lived in nyc for 3 years but living my childfree life at the time so i never paid attention to accessible lactation spaces 🥲

for those of yall that live there or have visited, what has your experience been like finding spaces to breastfeed privately?

i would like to hear your experiences outside of just breastfeeding in public, which i find challenging for a few reasons and am hoping to avoid if possible. my baby is also super squirmy and easily distracted. sometimes even if my cats are around he wont nurse and will just stare at them 😂

i have the Mamava app and im planning on using it as well! but tell me about your favorite spots like nordstrom/bloomingdales etc hahahha

what are yall doing with the stuffed animals people gift you?

at the risk of sounding ungrateful, i’m really appreciative that people want to give my baby gifts, but so much of what i receive ends up in some kind of donation pile.

my MIL recently threw a party for her friends to meet my son (7 months). everyone brought gifts which was really sweet, but two thirds of them were some form of stuffed toy. what do you do with these? donate to a women’s shelter? goodwill? i don’t have space for them and my child doesn’t need 10 stuffed bears.

he also was gifted a blanket with a prop 65 warning (state of CA) which went straight into the donation pile but i’m wondering if i should just throw it away… no baby should receive something that needs a warning for lead or other chemicals

EDIT: thanks for the comments, i’m a FTM and i didn’t think of imaginary play when baby is older. i am trying to reduce polyester but i’ll feel better about him playing with stuffies when they’re not going straight in his mouth. he’s 7 months so he’s not attached to any of them — going to keep a variety and donate the extras!

im aware of prop 65 being generally meaningless, but i try to err on the side of caution when it comes to children’s products. i typically look for OEKO-TEX Standard 100 for textile products and ASTM F963 labeling for toys. the blanket 100% polyester and some off label brand with a prop 65 warning so i’m not inclined to keep it

EDIT 2: genuinely confused as to why i’m being downvoted, but even if prop 65 is slapped on everything, i would try to avoiding give my child something with that label on it when there are alternatives. nor do i want my child sucking on polyester stuff when i don’t know where it came from

has anyone successfully coslept and sleep trained their LO?

i have a EBF 6 month old who gets up every 2 hours to nurse. usually he just goes back to sleep but these days he cries and fusses until one of us picks him up and rocks him back to sleep. its been three full weeks of this and i’m at my wits end because toward the morning he gets up every 30 mins.

i really wanted to cosleep but this frequency of night wakings is making me resent my kid. i never wanted to sleep train either but i feel like both my husband and i will be better parents for it.

does anyone have any experience with sleep training while bedsharing? is it possible or do i need to give up cosleeping and move baby to his own space?
