Can we talk about Winston-Salem's ridiculous skyline?

Is there a lesser known city nationwide with a bigger collection of buildings than Winston-Salem? Winston-Salem's biggest tower out-lengths the biggest in such cities as Richmond, Memphis, Birmingham, and Salt Lake City. There are two 400+ Ft towers, and it contains the building that inspired the design of the Empire State Building. Not to mention how "memorable" or should I say "memberable" the structure of some of the buildings are.

Obviously, there are historical reasons that Winston-Salem is built this big, but in modern day, it's somewhat unbelievable that a city this forgotten is packing this large.

Heard a rumor that the entirety of AOE got laid off today

Can anyone confirm if this is true or false? If that were true, how exactly are our offices going to function? Maybe what I heard is a more dramatic version of what really happened.

AOE is administrative and office experience if you don't know.

Do you consider Greensboro as more of a rival or more of an ally?

Obviously we hate the Triangle and Charlotte. They are not allies of ours. Do you consider Greensboro to be an ally? They are another piece of the Triad and face similar hardships to Winston-Salem. Do we celebrate their victories too or should we be angry when Greensboro has victories?

I think we are more allies than rivals. Typically if something is good for one member of the Triad, I think we all benefit. It is hard not to want to be the dominant force in the Triad, and too many Greensboro victories could turn a small difference into a big one. It is tough for me to decide if I should be a Greensboro hater and doubter or a Greensboro lover and supporter.

How do we feel about Greensboro around here? Are we more rivals or more allies? Or maybe we are pretty much equally both.

Was Dedrick's Shampoo rant kinda stolen or just hacky?

I'm a casual comedy fan. I know the big names and have seen my fair share of specials, but I'm most likely not as knowledgable as many of you.

I'm remembering a bit from a special where the comedian comments on the "7 in 1" shampoo thing comparing it to men vs. women. I think the punchline is something to the effect of "they haven't figured out how to make it toothpaste yet." From my memory, that bit has like 80%+ overlap with Dedrick's bit. I could feel like I had heard a very similar rant to that before, and I don't have netflix so it wasn't from hearing Dedrick tell the same joke from the week before. ChatGPT said it might be Bill Burr, but I couldn't locate a clip if it was.

Even if I am misremembering the bit I'm trying to think of somehow, it's a very tired premise. The men's vs. women's shampoo bit and 7 in 1 bit have been done a million times.

I have seen a lot of comments coming after Dedrick for repeating the joke, but not as much on the fact the joke wasn't original at all the first time he told it, which to me is the bigger problem.

I am not a David fan. I have never listened to his music and never will. I did not know who he was until Celeste's body was recovered in his car. I want to see justice served in this case, but I don't believe the prosecution has sufficient evidence on the murder charge based on what we have currently seen.

For this post, I am only focusing on the murder charge. The murder charge is the one that needs to stick for him to face life in prison (or the death penalty). If the other charges stick, he may not get that much time, if any, based on what others convicted of those crimes often get. Based on the prosecution's claimed evidence, I am confident they have the evidence to get him convicted of abusing her prior to her death.

This case is built almost entirely on circumstantial evidence. It is not impossible to get a conviction with only circumstantial evidence, but it becomes a much bigger challenge for the prosecution. They would have to be able to show that while they don't have the key physical evidence needed for the conviction, the circumstantial evidence paints a picture where there is no other reasonable possibility on who could have committed the crime. Based on what I have seen released publicly, I don't think we have that. There may be additional evidence that has not been released to the public yet, and there also may be evidence out there that I have not seen. It is also possible that my understanding of the evidence is incorrect. I am more than open to having any of you respond with where I have gone wrong.

Here are the key pieces of evidence as I see it:

  • Celeste's blood was found in his garage - To me, this is the best evidence that the prosecutors have. The defense will try to come up with a story as to how that blood got there from an event other than the murder. However, I think the prosecution will be able to use this to convince the jury that the murder happened in David's garage. This is a big step in proving the case beyond a reasonable doubt. The problem is, just because the murder happened at his house doesn't mean that he actually committed it. The defense will try to claim there were multiple people in David's house at the time of the murder, and say that it could be any one of them. I don't think the prosecution can get beyond a reasonable doubt on this alone, but it is good evidence.
  • The Amazon order - The Amazon order is another key piece of evidence, but I can see the defense poking holes in this. Were any of the items ordered proven to be used in the dismemberment and disposal of the body? It seems the prosecution believes it can prove that the pool from the order was used in the disposal of Celeste's body. Can it be proven that it was David himself who made the order? Did other associates of David have access to his Amazon account? If the prosecution can't prove that it was David himself who ordered those items, and they can't prove it was for certain those items used and by David, then there is room for the defense to create doubt.
  • Surveillance Video (Last to drive the Tesla) - I saw the video and I couldn't identify who was driving the car. I'm not sure if the prosecution has enhanced video that clearly shows it was David, but the video I saw was inconclusive as to the identity of the driver. If they have enhanced video, can it be proven that Celeste's body was in the car at the time of that video? If so, could it be possible that he didn't know the body was in the car? Based on what I have seen, I am not sure it can be proven that was David behind the wheel as I couldn't pick out any identifiable features from the video.
  • The missing fingers - Most people seem to think that David removed the fingers to make her body less identifiable once it was discovered. I think this is what the prosecution is alleging as well. I have a different theory which is that David removed the fingers as a momento of her/the crime. I believe so much that he is still in possession of her fingers. If the investigators could find him in possession of her fingers, that would be damning evidence. However, the fingers have not been recovered. The mere fact that they were removed is not enough evidence to me in the juror mindset to implicate him. I obviously have a speculative theory (that I 100% believe) that he did it and what he did with them, but I can't prove that theory beyond a reasonable doubt.
  • Motive - David had an obvious financial motive to commit the murder, but all of his associates would have had the same motive. The defense could paint a story where David tells one of his associates that this girl is going to expose him and ruin his career, and the associate was scared of the financial impact to themself and murdered Celeste without David's knowledge when she showed up. What if the defense can prove another girl was at David's house at the time of the murder, and they try to say the other girl murdered Celeste out of jealousy without David's knowledge? David had a motive, but he is not uniquely the only person who could have had a motive to kill Celeste. Can we prove beyond a reasonable doubt that it was David himself who committed the murder?

I believe in my heart that David committed every crime he is accused of. I want to see him face justice at the end of the day. However, the evidence is not as convincing as I would like to see. We are missing the murder weapon, and we are missing the fingers which I believe he still has somewhere. It appears we also can't prove that the chainsaws from Amazon were used in the crime and were used by David. If investigators were to recover those two pieces of evidence (especially if the fingers are in David's possession), we would be in a much better place, assuming they would further incriminate David. Even as someone who believes without a doubt that David was involved in the murder, I can't say that it wasn't actually an associate of his that he ordered to kill her who really committed the act (though David would still be legally responsible in this case).

An important fact to remember: the defense doesn't have to prove that David didn't do it. We could get to the end of the trial and every juror could think, "David probably did that," but if they also think, "but I can't say it wasn't his manager/other associate or his jealous other girlfriend," then the verdict is going to come back not guilty. If the jury can reasonably think that someone else could have done it, even if they think that David is the most likely suspect, he will be found not guilty. Beyond a reasonable doubt is the highest standard of proof, and I don't think we're there with what has been released publicly.

Being as objective as you can, do you believe the prosecution has enough evidence to prove David committed the murder beyond a reasonable doubt based on what has been released publicly? Do you believe the prosecution has additional evidence that we don't know about yet? If they are holding back additional evidence at the moment, I could feel a lot better about a conviction once it is released.
