TBMA Graft Worthless?

I picked up a grafted TBMA as part of a moving sale several months ago and it has done nothing and the graft stock hasn't tried to push pups. There are no areoles, so is it just chop time or is there some way to make this do something? For reference the second pic is a Bridge Baker #something that has sprouted three pups in the last month. Different graft stock and more skilled grafter but can't help but think the TBMA won't grow anymore. Thanks in advance for any insight.

TBMB Planters

Got some cheapo hanging planters and a couple peens are getting a sun burn so trying this shadier option. Hope these grow in well because there are more boxes and TBM's coming. Also not sure if that white one is a monkey tail or not but I am probably gonna snag some of those and this other hanginf succulent my mom has for variety. I'm also pretty sure they're now slug and snail proof hanging off the fence.

So Close To "Not Witch's Broom"

I know I am in the window where pups can still pup on those two pups but this particular one fell off a true giant, so lots of flowers and not a lot of room to grow and it needs to balance. I can still be 100% wrong, but this is looking really good to me.

Bonus pic two nice flowers on what I was told was a TBM but definitely has some pach spines so not sure. Hoping to cross. Flowers happy.

Newest Bruce Additions

Newest Bruce Additions

Got a couple new Bruce's Dragons from a kind fellow on here that are potted and hopefully rooting. Got a grafted one locally that seems pretty darn healthy, although I need to clean up the pot a little and add some top rocks.

The two hopefully rooting Bruce's I'm kinda gambling on. Might stake the taller one, but they're like 2in deep including the granite. Plus two safety rocks keeping things wedged in there. Thoughts? Stake can't hurt but I'm 2/2 on them not falling with the rock companion method.

Last pic is a crest. Doesn't fit the theme but it's a particularly pretty one and the previous repot before the others.

Two or three months ago I didn't have any of these funky things in the garden and now there are half a dozen. I think that is enough for now. Planning to winter them inside but looking forward to putting a couple in the ground next year.

Pups On Pups? (W/ Bonus Rib And Cac Action)

I was gonna time lapse this particular pup then got lazy. However, today I noticed something I have never seen: Pup I first noticed May 26th (2nd pic) appears to have two pups of its own. This has been part of my "nuke with worm castings for pups" experiment and so far it seems to be working. There is legit like 1-1.5in of worm castings dumped on the top layer of a 12 or 15gal pot (forget).

Never seen it before but super stoked. Am I lucky or is it normal or somewhere in between? Same genetics in pic #3 currently at 8 ribs with a possible 9th? It'll throw and retract but it looks like we are headed to nine with that one. Most I have around is eight. It's the thickest pup I've ever seen though (now like 3ft+ but ya know). It also has clearly been trying to grow. And it doesn't look over-watered. Also dumped worm castings on that one.

Pic #4 needs no explaining aside from me being a man child... If that wasn't obvious... Happy growing y'allz!

Stand Mixer Settings/Attachments

I do not own a stand mixer nor done CIELO, but if I had access to one, would you advise it as a first go? That would mean I never deal with it by hand/glove. Is there any educational value to that? If not, what attachments and settings work for the dry crumb thing? Many thanks. I attached a pic of a cactus because when I searched "stand mixer" someone else did and I'm a lemming (ya I know they don't do that...). Thanks in advance!

How Best To Skeletonize?

I realizd this is generally the opposite of what we do here: Helping to grow cacti. I have a good amount of very distressed and damaged PC logs and want to get ornamental skeletons for family (request) and possibly myself. How would you turn these into skeletons? The one in the middle is getting there already. My instincts tell me that removing the skin/waxy layer it'd dry faster, but I don't know if it'd just be a bunch of mush that'd rot and not produce a skeleton. Thanks in advance.

ID: Got Three Hunches

As I've posted, I picked up a fancy moving sale and this is one graft that will grow into a final ID but I'm curious what folks here think. From the rest of the lot I would guess TBMB graft, but it's a scion/slab graft, and that would be a chunky TBMB. Bruce's Dragon was on the list, but I know one of them for sure, however there could be multiples. Or, maybe a TBM clone A? There is for sure one other but I am less inclined to think that. TBMB or Bruce or am I crazy? Or D) All of the above?

10yrs Expired 99% Isopropanol

I got a bunch of bottles forever ago and have only used it when I have cut myself pretty bad gardening, so dunking a finger in subzero alcohol didn't seem a poor idea, but these sealed containers of 99% isopropyl alcohol expired in 2016. What chemical reaction is going on to degrade these and is it still fine for disinfecting wounds if they are all sealed and have been stored in a freezer 24/7? They are still great as a heat sink in my freezer even if no longer chemically safe. Just sliced a finger a few weeks ago and used this and then had questions. Don't wanna be absorbing something toxic if a reaction is occurring I'm unaware of. Thanks!

Any Saving This?

I understand the impending down vote. I can definitely lower this like 6in or so. Viewing point is mainly La-Z-Boys so leaned back and I'm 1/64th giraffe. Can I ever get within regulation without lowering the fireplace mantle metal thing?

About 5yrs Growth On This Beast

It doesn't throw ribs or turn blue but dang this thing grows and has something to it. Realized I have pictures about 5yrs apart. It was already calloused when I got it so threw it right in the ground. Same knife for scale.

CIELO Stirring And Collection Filter Type

Hello. Never run CIELO but have three questions:

  1. During the magnetic stirring phase, is an open beaker fine or does it need to be in a capped media bottle? EA doesn't seem incredibly hydrophilic so seems like it'd be fine but curious what others think. During the French press part it'd get about the same amount of time in an unsealed container so guessing it's fine but not 100% sure.

  2. Obviously a legit fume hood would be ideal, but would you be comfortable with just a stationary fan or would an inline fan/duct for suction over things be necessary? Also, then you would want to make sure everything in the fan/suction system is completely EA proof right? Even fumes would eventually condense. That seems like it could cause issues if not all stainless and safe plastics.

  3. Would you advise fast flow or medium flow or slow flow grade 4 filters for final collection or just the coffee filters?

Many thanks in advance. Looks fun. Safety first.

Rehoused Some Grafts

Rehoused most of the grafts from recent bulk by. Might have used too much sulfur but 3 weren't calloused or lost it (should've gotten to these earlier).

Pic 1 has a TBMA and some sort of TB mutant with a basal pup from whatever the graft stock is. Other side not sunburned.

Pic 2 has some bridge that will need to be removed and rooted on its own later this summer and a Bruce's Dragon with weird tip growth. Unsure of long term plan with him. Going to see how that grows for a bit.

Pic 3 I think are just 2 TBMB's.

No experience with grafts so open to any input and let me know if I'm off on any ID's. Pretty sure this rehousing project ends tomorrow. So close...

BM 470 Is Best Foot Knife

I had to downsize from the 477 due to weight but I'm pretty happy with today's carry.

Repot/Advice/ID?

Hey! I'm on the home stretch of my repot project if you don't count the seedling triage. Got one cool pic, one concern, and one "what the heck is this?"

Pic 1 I believe is TPMCV. It looked happy before. Its new home is a massive upgrade. Super happy with this thing. Just flawless.

Pic 2 is TBMCV I think. Those two crests were on the list and nothing else is crested nor variegated, so likely TBMCV. You can see the woody/scarred damage. The guy I got it from said a mouse got to it (makes sense as I spotted a couple tiny rodent tooth marks on others). He also advised cutting out the woody part. I am inclined to leave it but don't know crested nor variegated. Should I do surgery or leave it? It's not nasty or soft anywhere as best I can tell. I do have Sulphur and sterile supplies etc.

Pic 3 is where I have some issues. TBMB I know. What are the two to the left of it?

What Gloves Do You Use?

As the title says. What do you use to deal with the extra spikey boys and girls? I have gloves that have worked for everything else but got one that goes through what I have. Thank in advance!

ID?

Hey! I have no idea what these are. Got a bunch of odds and ends wirh other cacti. They are very cool but pretty darn sure not LW but some other L? Super pretty. I just wanna ID to best care for them. Love to put them in the ground but if they csnt handle a little winter rain then that could be an issue and more a potted/semi-indoor cactus. Thanks!

Thrice Be A Lady

Nitrogen shock and increased temp/sun really showing strong results as of late but took a peak of what is the most gigantic basal pup I've ever had, as it got really messed up by slugs. No termination. This lovely lady is doing all kinds of fun stuff. First pic has three. Second pic is for when a soda can isn't enough. Third pic is a bonus peep show on the side. This pup is just nuts and I'll tell ya the most impressive growth I've seen is from borderline-ruptured columns. Like... almost no ribs. Or even ruptured and healed. Couldn't be happier with this one. Worm castings and pptek ftw.

Haul: How Did I Do?

Plenty of things that need TLC and a repot or straight into the ground but I think I got a pretty decent cork sniffer's starter pack here. I'm not great at ID but looks like some TPM, TBM, TBMA, TBMB, Bruce, and some variegated crested stuff. Few other weirdos I can't ID but they'll get the pumice and worm castings treatment. I'm hesitant to put the variegated ones in the ground in case I need to move them for sun but honestly I'm just stoked to have some fancy ones to mix into my columns. I was going to slowly accumulate fun ones but hey the iron was hot so I struck. Happy cactusing!
