After seeing some other musicians come out with unique offerings like branded alcohol partnerships, bagged whole bean coffees, and even hot sauces, Ive been considering the potential of roasting small batches and selling coffee as a sort of merch offering. Id like to do it for fun aside from selling it, because i love coffee and would enjoy learning how to do it.
If i went small scale, low investment, maybe spending $400-700 on equipment, what sort of roaster would you guys recommend? Being that this would be fairly low volume cottage industries type thing, is this a crazy idea or do you folks see it as maybe being a bit profitable over time? Id get custom coffee bags made somewhere with my own graphics, sell the coffee online and at shows.
Trying to brainstorm some ideas aside from merch sales and giving lessons that might be a logical fit for generating some a little extra income as a musician. A lot of crafty things seem to be kinda saturated: candle-making, jewelry, etc. maybe i could make guitar picks?
