“Bloomfield residents may not have a harbor to dump tea into, but we have an unavoidable daily reminder, every time we flush.”

Public Comments Township of Bloomfield council meeting of July 28, 2026.

Speaker #3 William Jarrett

William stated as we mark our country's 250th anniversary of independence and our very first sewer bill compared Bloomfield’s new sewer fee to the Revolutionary slogan “No taxation without representation”.

Said the sewer fee rollout lacked transparency, public input, and an independent third-party audit of the sewer study.

Claimed the process was rushed and did not include all council members.

Raised concerns about impacts on small businesses, seniors, renters (51% of Bloomfield’s population), and PILOT properties.

Criticized the hiring of N.W. Financial, citing its history and alleging regulatory issues.

Argued Township Auditor Steve Wielkotz should not audit the 2026 budget because of his role in supporting the sewer fee.

Accused the administration of withholding OPRA records related to the sewer fee.

Said the sewer fee is the “linchpin” of the 2026 budget, with no alternative budget options, no long-term cost modeling, no cap on future rate increases, and no safeguards against using sewer funds for non-sewer expenses.

Claimed infrastructure and maintenance costs were not fully presented.

Argued the fee limits residents’ ability to claim tax deductions.

Claimed officials said the fee would not be retroactive, but residents are being billed using prior-quarter water usage despite the July 1 effective date.

Criticized the council for voting in favor of the ordinance despite residents’ objections and accused officials of alienating constituents by accusing residents of gaslighting and canceling.

Closed by saying Bloomfield residents may not have a harbor to dump tea into, “but we have an unavoidable daily reminder… every time we flush.”

Bloomfield Center reimagined pt 2

1 -2. Glenwood Ave - Widen sidewalks, remove diagonal parking, add benches etc.

3-4. Broad St - Same as above + outdoor seating.

5-6. Washington St - Convert to pedestrian only for evening and weekends + outdoor dining.

7-9. Bloomfield Train Station - Renovate / Restore historic charm + benches, bike rental.

10-11. The Royal - Slight improvement because it’s just plain ugly.

Used AI. Just for fun.

Newark Fan Village

It’s really a shame this old Iberia layout is going away. This was one of the best organized outdoor events I’ve seen in the city. Just being there made we wish it could be a permanent indoor/ outdoor mixed use area for concerts, DJ’s, food vendors etc…

Knicks / World Cup watch parties

Anything going on? Preferably outdoor. Really wish the town would facilitate for things like this more.

Blue Steel & 7 Doors Down

Anyone know why these places abruptly closed? I feel like they were sort of cornerstones for the Bloomfield food scene and it’s pretty dead now that they’re both gone.

Was anyone there last night? I just saw the recap and it seems like a ton of people spoke up but this guy in particular really went in (William Jarrett).
