Is this a gas shutoff?

Hi everyone.
We just moved to the new house and I never had a fireplace in my life and don’t know too much about it.
I’m remodeling the house and soon I will be replacing the floor but I was wondering if this is a gas shutoff and if this is normal to have it on the floor like this or if it’s possible tonight remove or relocate?

Laundry room French door not fitting

I recently got a slab French door and it’s my first time trying to install it.
I’m very tight on the hinges looks like right side of the exiting jamb is not plumb and middle of the door on the top it’s too tight that it doesn’t close without forcing it.

Any tricks im missing to make these fit here?

Which Mapei grout color would you choose for this white herringbone backsplash?

I just finished installing this white herringbone backsplash in my kitchen and I’m trying to decide on a grout color.

I do NOT want a very light grout because I don’t want the herringbone pattern to disappear. I’d like the pattern to be visible, but I also don’t want the grout lines to be too dark or overpower the space.

I’m currently considering Mapei grout.

Which Mapei grout color would you choose for this kitchen? Any suggestions from people who have installed a similar backsplash?

New engineered hardwood floor

Just installed engineered hardwood floor and it dents super easily…
Just moving a fridge back to its place and a chair cause these dents.

Fix it or leave it? What’s the proper way to fix this?

Almost there, should I backsplash the left side wall as well?

It’s been 2 weeks since I started my kitchen, I did all the work.
Backsplash is next and last other than minor touch ups and installing the laundry door, which I got a shaker style French door, planning to paint match with cabinets…
I got Daltile restore 3x12 tiles to do herringbone pattern backsplash.

What are your thoughts?

Kitchen window trim

Hi everyone,

I just put a 3 1/2 trim around the kitchen sink window and I will be putting herringbone backsplash later on.
Any time I worked in other kitchen they didn’t have this type of trim and I’m not sure how it look with the backsplash.
Is the trim looks okay or should I change it?

Need ideas on fireplace surrounding

I'm looking ways to finish my fireplace surrounding after taking the old mantle to drop the TV height for the ne TV.
I really don't have any where to put the TV on and I really like to put some built in cabinets or make this wall look more like an entertainment wall. I have a high ceiling in this section.
Fireplace sits in the wall and I never worked on fireplace surroundings before.
What would you suggest for ideas?

Note I don't have anywhere else to put the tv unfortunately

Question about my crown look

In absolutely hate doing crown and today and I did it on my kitchen. Looks like I messed up with my planning on cabinet height so I was short and didn’t bother installing riser to bring up to the ceiling. It looks fine to me but I want to get your opinions on if I should do something or leave it as is…

I also have led lights running to stacked cabinets. I could always drill a hole on top of the stacked to push a led strip too, not sure if I want to do it tho…

Wall and stacked cabinets

Cabinet installation question:

Installing stacked cabinets and trying to figure out the door alignment.

Looking at the photo, should the reveal between the upper stacked cabinet doors and the lower wall cabinet doors be at the bottom of the stacked cabinets (as shown), or should I move the door for the wall cabinets down so the reveal at the bottom won’t be there?

Kitchen plumbing

I’m installing a new kitchen sink and moving the sink basin toward the left side of the cabinet. The existing drain stub-out is already on the left side wall of the cabinet (see photo). Can I install a garbage disposal on the left bowl and still connect to this drain without issues? Do I need a special trap arrangement or should I move the sink opposite way before the countertop goes in?

Sliding door flooring transition

Recently replaced my sliding door and ran into a fitment issue. The left side of the door sits about 1/2” recessed inside the wall compared to the rest of the opening. I’m about to install engineered hardwood flooring and I’m trying to figure out the cleanest way to finish this area.
Current setup:
Subfloor is exposed right now
There’s a 3/4” pressure treated piece/sill under the sliding door
Door frame sits slightly recessed on the left side
Questions:
Should I run the engineered hardwood directly up to the sliding door frame, or use a transition piece/T-molding there?
Should I trim/cut down the pressure treated lip so the flooring can butt closer to the door?
Any concerns with expansion gap, moisture, or long-term movement around a sliding door like this?
What would be the cleanest-looking finish in this situation?

Sliding door installation question

Installed a replacement sliding patio door today and looking for opinions on whether this is acceptable or if I should redo part of it before trimming everything out.
The door operates smoothly and locks correctly, but one side of the frame sits proud/outward compared to the interior framing. Exterior side still lines up pretty well with the J-channel/siding, but inside I now have about a 3/4” gap between the door frame and rough framing on one side.
I tried removing and reinstalling the door but could not get it perfectly flush without causing other alignment issues. Rough opening/framing may not be perfectly in plane.
I also flashed the door and reinstalled the j-channel and siding..

Questions:
Is this mainly cosmetic if the door slides/latches correctly?
Does this indicate frame twist/racking or is this common on retrofit installs?
Best way to finish the interior cleanly?
Should I use jamb extensions/filler strips/trim to hide the gap?
Anything concerning from these photos before I do flooring and interior trim?
Photos attached.

Need advice replacing bottom plate

Hi everybody,

I’m looking to replace my sliding door but I found out I also have a water damage on the corner of the door.

Looks like both king and jack studs don’t have any rot, but bottom plate is a paper at this point.

I have to cut before the second king stud and put a piece of bottom plate there. Also replace the damaged OSB before that.

My question is since jack stud it doesn’t have any bottom plate at this point what’s holding the weight and should I do this without removing the door in case if door is holding the weight?

I also have second floor and web trusses running parallel to the exterior wall. I know that I can put a temp wall if this was regular joists running perpendicular to take the load but I don’t know how this works on web trusses?

Need advice on water damage

Need advice on water damage

Need advice on water damage repair near sliding door before installing engineered hardwood.

I pulled up old flooring and found what looks like rot/water damage at the bottom corner next to the sliding glass door. The bottom plate, and the OSB is rotten around the corner. Studs look like not affected.

I’m planning to replace the sliding door to fix the leak problem but I have to see what I can do with this or if I should fix it prior to changing the door or fix it and change the door?

Spline for Engineered hardwood floor

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for spline for the groove actual size 0.21 inch, or ~ 3/16.

I couldn't find anywhere near me but what I found is 0.21 inch thick plywood that I can rip cut to make my own.

What are your thoughts on this?
