How does a full fibre network install work?

Can anyone explain how a full fibre network works and what its capacity is?

We have recently had fibre installed on the estate where I live, which has approximately 260 properties. This is an XGS-PON Full Fibre install.

There were 2 main boxes installed on the outskirts of the estate and then smaller boxes installed throughout the estate.

These are the sort of questions I am wondering.

  1. How many fibre cables would be coming into the main box?
  2. The smaller boxes look like they supply about 20 properties each.
  3. How are the smaller boxes connected to the larger box? Is the connection daisy chained back, or it there a direct cable from the larger box to each smaller box?
  4. What would be the maximum capacity of the network? I know XGS-PON can go up to 10 GbE, but the max speed currently available is a 2 GbE on a symmetrical connection. So could everyone have this?

If someone can point me at a good site that explains it, or even a video, it would be appreciated.

Porchetta Failure

So decided to try something different on my Weber Mastertouch and opted for a Porchetta.

After browsing the internet and YouTube I came up with my plan.

I have my thoughts, but this is what I did.

Preparation.

Used a meat tenderiser (Jaccard copy) on the skin and rolled the pork before drying in the fidge for 24 hours.
Meat was butterflied and the stuffing put between the layers.

For the stuffing.

4 cloves of garlic - crushed to a paste using sea salt flakes.
Rosemary chopped fine
Thyme chopped fine
Chilli flakes
Olive oil
Zest of 1/2 lemon
Juice of 1 lemon

For the cooking using the Weber rotisserie.

Almost full chimney of weber briquettes.
Put both baskets underneath for 5-10 minutes until skin looks like it is just charring
Separate baskets
Drip pan underneathLid on for about 2 1/2 - 3 hours until coals burn out or temperature reaches 85 C
Cook at about 230 C
Check after 1 hour

My issues.

The temperature dropped after 1 hour so I added a few more briquettes.
Internal was around 70 C, so I thought about another 1 hour.
I checked again after 1 1/2h and the crackling was charred, so I checked the temperature and it was at 85 C so I took it off and rested for 20 minutes.

The garlic was overpowering and the crackling was charred almost bitter and the meat was quite dry compared to when I have done pulled pork.

My thoughts.

I used a large french garlic that I had from a local butchers, should have used less or the bog standard supermarket type?
The butcher had scored the skin already and gone to deep with the cut and I then exaggerated this when I tenderised it?
The pork joint was too small (I only wanted to try it out) so should have reduced the heat to increase the cooking time to be more low and slow.
Was a bad bit of meat, which I know you can get?

Any advice appreciated.

Weber Rotisserie Picanha

Came across some Picanha in Morrisons. Not heard of it before, but thought it was reasonably priced at £26.

After a bit of research, decided that I was going to cook it on the Weber rotisserie.

About 20 minutes and it was almost done, so a quick baste with chimichurri and 5 minutes of direct heat with plenty of flames.

Was quicker than I thought, but then I have swapped my charcoal from the Weber brand to Big K which seemed to burn much better and hotter.

Had an issue where the Picanha seemed to want to spin on the skewers, so the fat was not on the outside.

Maybe I need to pin or skewer them better?

I had another post about my PHEV Tayron only charging at about 4kW and thought there was an issue with the car.

However, when I used a cable from another vehicle, it charged correctly at 7.4kW.

This is what I think the issue is.

The charger supplied with the Tayron is a Mennekes 20A 480v IP44.

Now this will provide the 11kW that the Tayron can charge at across a 3 phase AC circuit, which is a common install on modern houses so I have been told.

However, some homes and public chargers are only single phase, so on a standard 7.4kW charger, this would only provide about the 4.5kW I am getting.

To get the full 7.4kW on a single phase you would need a 32A cable.

Now the cable provided is branded with a VW part number and I am going to the UK dealership on Friday, but could it be that they should have issued a 32A cable?

What cables have you been provided with?

Using my Weber connect and it fell off the shelf I keep it on.

The 2 probes that were in the ports got pulled out and they now wont go back in. They are way too loose and don't make a connection.

The fit into the other two ports that were not being used at the time.

Is there anything I can do about it? There doesn't look like any screws are there to take it apart?

Just picked up my new company Tayron 1.5 TSI eHybrid R-Line ediditon.

However, when using the chargers provided at work, it is only charging at 4.6kw, not the 7.4kw as the chargers can supply.

I have tried a different charger on another site and it is the same.

I thought they could charge up to 11kw on AC and 50kw on DC?

I have checked the settings in the car and the reduced charging on AC is not checked?

I did try a 300kw fast charger and that worked as it put 50kw into the battery, so I know the DC charger works.

7.296 kwh in 9m 24s to give me 19 miles, but at £0.79 kwh (£5.76) thats was too expensive to be viable to do.

Any advice

Does anyone have any recommendations for a table to go with my master touch?

I am aware that Weber make the side table, but it doesn’t look that sturdy and for £83 in the UK it doesn’t seem quite expensive.

Looking for something to place food on whilst waiting to put in on and maybe some preparation. Aware of all the hygiene issues. 😎

I looked at the Performer Premium but I thought that was also a lot of money for a small space.
