Could someone explain to me what all the hate towards Art/Set Dec and Production coordinators comes from? I am genuinely curious

I have been in the industry now for 23 years. I've worked in LA- New York-Philly- Chicago, Puerto Rico,. Atlanta, Louisiana... Hell I basically have worked all the major hubs in the USA and a few overseas in various capacities.

In that time, I have noticed that there is a great deal of disrespect aimed at these type of coordinators from the International and especially in the smaller locals.

In some cases like in Georgia and Chicago they were forcing Coordinators to be both Art and Set Dec coordinators on the same show for only one, salary where they were not even bringing home $1000 per week. The Locals were totally fine with this! Basically eliminating an entire job another union member could be working and they just let the studio take advantage of one person, doing two jobs and pulling in a minimum salary!!!

All of this was proven over and over again. I remember the idiot BA in Georgia claiming Coordinators were better off not having a negotiated rate (!?) I remember hearing the one of the officers in the Chicago Local calling them "Glorifed PA's".

My experience has been completely different. They are usually in the office before call and leave after it. They are also more organized than most people on the show. I have noticed the ADs call the coordinators before they call the department heads to get answers faster. They are invaluable to nearly every department in many ways. Yet they were treated like garbage by many in IATSE. Why? What did they do, or do they do that makes you not want them to have a livable wage? I am honestly curious as to what I am missing here.

After watching the Preseason Game against the Browns I can confidentially say this Bears team is more than able to contend for a Championship!

By the way--- that is the dumbest statement anyone could ever make! A Preseason game against the Browns - a team usually stuck at 5-12 like the Bears usually are- is enough of an indicator that the Bears have a chance to win it all? I am aggravated, ashamed and humiliated fellow Bears fans would be ignorant enough to make such a stupid statement. But I see it all over Reddit and social media people talking like this. The lack of understanding of an NFL season and what Pre-season games are is mind boggling!!!! No wonder so many fans in Chicago believe the McAssholes and their BS lies half the time.

Just curious- What happened to IATSE 479 in Atlanta now that the International IATSE seized control? I noticed it is still a ghost town as far as work is concerned.

Did the International come in and straighten things out? Are people finally being held accountable? I will never trust those guys in the 479 because I didn't like how they completely ignored the Art/Production coordinators salary issue. Both of those positions are outrageously important. Yet they acted like getting paid less an hour than an employee starting in a fast food chain was a privilege. I even heard one of the people on the E Board back then saying that coordinators were glorified secretaries and shouldn't even be represented by a Union! Thankfully that stooge is no longer on the E Board. But I know flocks of crew in Atlanta are leaving there in droves because there simply is no longer any work down there. The entire industry is bankrupted down there now. Did the International IATSE do any good in setting things right or is it still a massive immature mess down there?

George McCaskey completely tone deaf to fans

They were chanting "Sell The Team" NOT "We're Selling our tickets." He is absolutely avoiding the reality that bears fans hate him and his greedy idiotic family of spoiled wealthy kids. Trying to refocus the hatred on the Lions. Safe to say the message fell on totally deaf ears. He must think the fans love the idiotic McAsshat family!

I saw this in a Bears group on Social Media. It scares me that our problematic defense is compromised with injuries and the exact same Indiana threats his brother Michael McCaskey was handing out when he said he would move the team to Gary if he didn't get a Soldier Field remodel from Taxpayers.

TIL Pee Wee Herman became famous as a regular guest on Late Night With David Letterman and his comedy was aimed at adult instead of kids. The character was in a few Cheech and Chong Movies and performed regularly in Night Clubs. It was not until years later he tailored his act for younger audiences

Pritzker is calling the McCaskey Bluff and it is a wise move

Michael McCasshole did the exact same thing when he threatened to move the team to Gary, Indiana. This was back when the McCassholes were demanding the Taxpayers remodel Soldier Field or they would move. Mayor Daley and Gov Ryan knew this was BS. and basically said back then..... "Fine, move to Gary." knowing full well they would never seriously consider a move to Gary.

This is All about getting more Taxpayer dollars to build it, and paying less taxes once it is built.

Which is hilarious because yesterday they were boasting about how much tax money this would generate for Arlington Heights & Illinois. But it has already been proven Arlington heights would be losing money and so would the state if the McCaskeys got the tax cuts they are looking for.

In fact they are demanding that all sales taxes on all materials to build the stadium be suspended! In other words, they want to not pay any sales taxes on what they buy in steel, glass, concrete.... This tallies up to millions of dollars. Who would make up for those tax cuts? You and I would as Illinois residents!

If Indiana is dumb enough to take the taxes that would pay for their roads (which are falling apart like crazy) their teachers and police, etc. Then so be it. Let them. But Illinois and Chicago have bent over backwards for the McCasshat family far too many times.

Yesterday in their BS whiny announcement McAsshole stated that this was all about the fans. And the fans deserve a better game experience than they are getting. Yes! The ONLY thing the fans want is a winning franchise! Not the one that has been manhandled and loses as often as the teams the McAssholes have offered up! Now they want to pretend they are doing this and care about the fans?

Had the Bears been a contender and a well run franchise they I would not be saying this as much. But the disrespect and lack of concern for the fans is all we have gotten since 1990! The Mcassholes are some of the worst sports owners in the city of chicago and the NFL!

They called this idiotic press conference yesterday and built it up in the media as a "Big announcement" when all it was were the same threats to move if they do not get everything they want from us. They want a deal signed right away because they are actually having to pay to keep a decent team together!!!

If they want one thing more than any it is to stop paying the kind of salaries they are paying right now. They want to get cheap as hell just like usual. They have only looked at the profit margin and never at the Win-Loss record.

How about this for a deal? You have to have an average of at least 9 wins per season for your first 5 seasons at the new stadium or you owe the State of Illinois half a Billion dollars!!!

SORRY FOR MY RANT! I am just sick and tired of the McCasshole family acting like we owe them something. Meanwhile we are still hearing about the Championship from 41 years ago like it happened three years ago. It's humiliating!

I honestly love our current ballpark. I always did. AND I really don't want them to move. Especially now that the pope sat in one of the seats! We also won a world series in that park!

Moving would ruin the mystique of it all. We had a President who was a sox fan and now a Pope.... We have a world series memorial sculpture and the Home Plate from out old stadium. We tailgate and cook brats. We had traditions. One was Harry Carrey singing TMOTTBG in the 7th. But Reinsdorf fired him. Now they sing it up North instead.... We have to protect these traditions once Reinsdorf is out of there. The Na Na Hey Hey has to stay and I really hope Ishibia realizes this before he goes buying rail yards. The total lack of respect that the Sox have gotten forever needs to stop and we should treat our diamond as though it was hallowed ground. Re-vamp the neighborhood like the Ricketts when they paved over Wrigleyville and turned it into Oak Brook mall.

The 85 Super Bowl was a team built by George Halas and the foundation of it laid by Mugs Halas. Not the McCaskey family!

Most Bears fans over the age of 50 know this. Most diehard Bears fans would also know this. But if you don;t here is a little Bear History.....

When the Halas Family (George S & his son Mugs) were running the Bears they had an average of winning 8 games a season. Many of those seasons were only 12 games. But their winning percentage from that time was a little bit over 8 games. Then Mugs died young and unexpectedly (mysteriously) So, George Halas reorganized his will to leave control to his daughter Virginia. But it included Mugs' children with equal shares to her children. When George S died, she reorganized it again, shutting out the Halas kids/Grandkids by devaluing their stocks and taking away their voting rights. There were court cases for years and eventually the Halas kids and family got screwed out of their shares. After that the team became run by McCaskey's only since 1983. Slowly the football experts that staffed the Bears flaked away. As well as their successes.

The Bears under the McCaskey family have an average seasonal win-loss record of 4-16 out of 717 games! That is pathetic! Yet they are demanding we gift them a new stadium and:

not having to pay sales taxes on the materials for a new stadium. We have to! (estimated at a little over half a billion dollars)

They don't want to pay for the police and crowd management for games. We have to! (close to $750,000 per game)

They don't want to pay taxes on naming rights and advertising around the stadium, and even though the Stadium belongs to the City and Taxpayers, they want all the advertising money from ads around the stadium (Only owners in the NFL that get that deal; btw. Estimated an average of $110million per season)

They want taxpayers to pay near $40 million per year on Property taxes they would have to pay. But they want a discount to be paid for by Chicago and Illinois taxpayers.

I could go on and on here. They are asking for everything to be put on the taxpayers burden for a franchise valued at nearly $6 Billion in 2024!

My Point? The ownership of this team sucks! What ever desires they had to field a winning football team died with George & Mugs. Then it simply became the cash generator for the McCaskeys- a large family of brothers and sisters that cannot stand one another and sue each other regularly. All for more of a cut of that season's profits.

Meanwhile the people like you and I who have been supporting this team and paying their bills all our lives, need to pay MORE. They need MORE! What do we get for our loyalty? Usually a crappy team getting slapped around by the Packers, 49rs and others!

Am I surprised they didn't try to fix and build the defense this season? Nope.... I am furious about it! The window for us winning will be short. They don't care about winning. To them winning means, not spending much, and making much more in return. Remember when Ted Philips said the 3 win seasons the Bears had in 2022 (his last season) was the single most profitable they have ever had!

I just have to vent. Sorry. You get really emotional and pissed off when you have been a fan of this team for so many years and the ownership just takes your loyalty and wipes themselves with it.

I am worried as to why Ryan Poles did basically nothing to address the defense? His explanations sound a lot like a canned McCaskey Response and that is a little frightening.

Bears have a lousy defense and a non-existent pass rush. Everyone who knows about this franchise and the NFL knew it. Yet Poles did really nothing to address it. It's basically cross our fingers and hope the moves they made on secondary sparks some skills. But that will probably prove to be a really stupid mistake.

It makes me wonder if the cheapskate McCassholes are already pulling back on the purse strings. Why can't we ever have a decent offense AND a decent defense at the same time? The Packers and the Lions both did some serious revamping on defense during the off season and are going to be that much more tough to beat and we also have what could amount to a much harder schedule this season.

The Bears have to win and win NOW! I have been a die hard bears fan for 60 years! I have seen the McCaskeys literally destroy a once proud franchise. I think we are all aware that once they get a stadium deal signed, they have zero interest in winning because winning costs too much. Our window of opportunity here is short. Maybe a season or two before a stadium deal is done. We have got to win during that time. Not paying attention to the defense and addressing the many needs and holes there is not going to get us to the Super Bowl!

The Sammy Hagar version of Van Valen was vastly superior to the original David Lee Roth Line up

The David Lee Roth Line up was okay, it had some great songs and it was a great band for its time. However, when Roth Left and Sammy came in it turned into something much bigger, and better. They had more hits, won grammys left and right and produced some of the greatest music ever. The songs were more complicated and had a deeper philosophical meaning and edge than did the songs of the original line up.
